Open up my eager eyes...

God knows if this is worth writing down but hey, whats a blog for? Recently I had a "debate" with my Mam about which holiday is the best one, and of course, I said Halloween, which got me nothing but ridicule in response. But it got me thinking, as to why Halloween is and has always been my favourite holiday, its not solely the trick or treating, or even the dressing up. Its the memories, the ghost stories you'd tell mates about "local legends and hauntings" that everyone blatently made up right there on the spot, the graveyard walks and mischief you could get away with, the comparing of treats you got at the end of the night and the split second of pure adrenaline when you had to leg it after a trick.

But when you get right down to it, its the innocence of it all, its the fact that all of the above happened when we were kids, when the scariest thing in the world was some ghost or ghoul, a spooky noise or a bag-snatcher. Back when being scared was a thing to look forward to, because you knew the moment November 1st rolled around, it would all be gone. Now we're all older, the things we fear are much more real, and a hell of a lot more unavoidable, the appeal of Halloween might have dropped off somewhat.Unacceptable. Give me ghosts and ghouls over debt and deadlines anyday.
