decided to participate in #makeaterriblecomicday2026! my apologies to Charlie (T&F 2026) and her fucked up ingrown headlamp
ATQT: Thomas & Friends Easy Connect Toby
It's very interesting that Toby is in the opening wave of this toyline. In the last few years, he's usually been relegated to being a latter-wave product, presumably on account of Brown not being the most marketable color in the world. I suppose his first-wave status speaks to how classic-pilled the ex-Disney Cars design team is, considering they managed to squeeze all of Awdry's Magnificent Seven into the toyline's opening salvo! ...even if one of them had to be exclusive to a Walmart-only multipack, and saddled with a non-standard deco...
With this love of Classic-era Thomas in mind, it's definitely... interesting, that Toby has turned out this way...
ATQT: Thomas & Friends Easy Connect Rosie
It's been a long road, getting Rosie from there to here. When she got her red makeover back in 2017, I was certain it was part of a plan to make her the new third character in the 'marketing trio' for Thomas & Friends. I mean, it makes sense, doesn't it? If Red Rosie takes James' spot, then you get to keep all three existing main trio colors in place, but now all three 'main-est' characters get to be in the same size/price bracket, and Mattel gets to pretend they care about women by adding a 33% increase in them to the trio! Surely this is a no-brainer, right?
Well, that didn't end up happening at the time, and we would later learn that that was never the plan and Red Rosie only happened because McCue and Brenner had some (frankly misogynist) misgivings with Rosie being pink. Eventually Nia would come along the following year, and she spent the rest of Big World! Big Adventures! dueling with James for that third slot in the trio, until All Engines Go! began and she began dueling Kana for that slot instead. But now Nia's been promoted to the Deluxe size class and is out of the running as a result, so ROSIE'S BACK IN TOWN, BABY! DESTINY HAS BEEN FULFILLED! AAAAHAHAHAHA!!!
...Which does beg the question: why did they make her flagship toy like that???
ATQT: Thomas & Friends Easy Connect Diesel
It's Devious Diesel, who's presumably here as a holdover from his main character status from All Engines Go. I assume he's going to be more similar to his characterization from that show given things we've heard about its development, which I'm honestly grateful for. Modern official Thomas media should never touch the Diesel Supremacy Movement unless they get somebody with the right amount of leftist know-how and weirdo freak attitude to hold the writer's pen...
Anyway, even though Rosie's the third character in the main trio this time around, Diesel's SKU comes first in the toyline for some reason, so we're looking at him first.

ATQT: Thomas & Friends Easy Connect Percy
It's Percy! Percy's an essential part of any Thomas toyline, so... here he is! He needs to be here, so here he is? Is he any good? Maybe? Who Knows? Hit the Read More button, please?
ATQT: Thomas & Friends Easy Connect Thomas
Thomas the Tank Engine is the Titular Tank Engine from the hit 81-year-old Multimedia Franchise Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends. The 3rd generation of this series is here now, and after the divisiveness of its second (All Engines Go!), there's one burning question on everyone's mind... is it any good?
Well, there's no way to tell with regard to any actual media, given there's been nothing shown of it. But we sure do have these toys of the characters who may or may not be in it! So, let's take a look at the flagship version of the main character for this new era.
ATQT: Thomas & Friends Easy Connect Cranky's Dockside Delivery Train Set
It's the third of the three tentpole Easy Connect train sets for Summer 2026! I mean, technically the Railroad Builder Track Kit counts as a fourth, but I'm not sure it counts as a tentpole considering it's a track pack with no marketable destinations... and I suppose the Animal Park sets slated for this year might count as tentpoles as well, but I'm still not sure when those are going to drop? Like, based on the information we have I'm *pretty sure* they're meant for the line's launch window, but we've seen basically nothing of them??? God, I dunno...
Anyway, CRANKY!
ATQT: Thomas & Friends Easy Connect Troublesome Truck
Yeah, I caved and gave money to scalpers again. Look, I've been hyped for these new trucks since we first got a look at these toys, I can be forgiven for wanting to get started on my army-building early, can't I?
Out of the first wave of Basic Metal Engines for 2026, this Troublesome Truck is easily the stand-out product. It's not that the other six vehicles in the wave are *bad* necessarily! (though Toby is pretty awful) It's just that this little yellow guy is more or less everything I could have possibly wanted out of a new take on the Troublesome Truck in this scale.
Looking at the past two iterations of Metal Collection-scale Troublesome Trucks, a common issue has been that they're just, unfittingly enormous. In an ideal world the sides of the truck only go up to say, two-thirds the height of an engine's body, so that it doesn't end up towering over whoever is pulling it. I have to assume design team for Trackmaster Push Along Troublesome Truck just assumed he should be on par with the engines height-wise, and it's just awful.
The All Engines Go Troublesome Truck at least has an excuse in this respect, because their tooling is derived from its Motorized equivalent, but it still makes for a comically large truck. It does at least mean it's more or less scaled correctly to the main character kid trains, but All Engines Go's diecast line has a lot of issues to do with scale to begin with...
In contrast, the Easy Connect Troublesome Truck is scaled perfectly. He's right in the sweet spot where you'd want a truck to be height-wise, and it's the first time in this scale an engine doesn't look completely ridiculous pulling a rake of 7-planks!
Speaking of looks and whether or not they're completely ridiculous, the unrelenting bright yellow is definitely a bold color choice! I'd have preferred if there were some black paint apps on the body's metal bracing (as seen in the packaging promo art), and the brightness of the color kinda drowns out all the wonderfully sculpted planking detail, but I don't find it terribly egregious all things considered. Then again, I am the world's most devoted and insane collector of Nova Storm from The Transformers, so perhaps my opinions on yellow-and-yellow-only as a color palette shouldn't be trusted...
As for the face, I think this is one of the few 2026 faces that I'm unabashedly into. This guy has a way better energy to him than the old CGI truck face, which I think might be the worst CGI faces of all time. CGI Troublesome Trucks look doughy and placid and completely uninteresting, meanwhile 2026 Troublesome Trucks look like they want you to die and are actively going to work towards making it happen. This is what the little hooligans who push engines down hills and break away with intent to crash into things should look like! They should look like freaks!!!
I think it's a shame these Troublesome Trucks are packed one-per-case, because if there were ever Troublesome Trucks worth army-building, these are *it*. Once these start rolling out to retail I'll probably be buying more of these. I'll probably also be buying a bunch of the alternate Troublesome Truck that'll be coming with Diesel in Wave 3 of the 2026 Deluxes, thought I doubt that one will become as numerous in my collection given I have no idea what I'd do with all those spare Diesels. Not sure my painting skills are up to the task of making Paxton or Sidney or some Mainland Diesels...
UP NEXT: I dunno! I've got a lot of stuff in the mail that won't arrive 'till the end of the month, so I might pass the time by writing up a post about my attempts to customize my two spare trucks. Who knows?
ATQT: Thomas & Friends Easy Connect Motorized Percy
In the last review, I mentioned that I'd picked up a Cranky's Dockside Delivery Set. Unfortunately my copy of the set came with a defective cargo car, and so I've opted to delay that review until I can get a functioning one, as otherwise the review would only be swearing. In the meantime, here's Motorized Percy! He was on Amazon and I was curious, so I picked one up.
The Easy Connect Motorized engines have been been facing a bit of controversy, primarily because of 1) Sweeping Systemic Changes, and 2) Quality Control. The systemic changes are definitely hard to swallow for longtime Motorized system fans, since the Plarail-style hooks and loops are now replaced by Wooden Railway-style magnets, and it's definitely a change I've been mixed on myself...
After having thought about it a lot, I think it's a change for the better. The Motorized toylines outside of Japan hasn't been able to recover from the damage Trackmaster Revolution did to the core system, so I think trying to go in a new direction is a good thing. The push-button mechanism is an amazing idea (and let's face it, free-wheeling is never coming back anyway), and while the magnets are definitely going to take some getting used to, I think they were the right call. Obviously they need to retain compatibility with the diecasts, but they also allow for direct cross-play with non-Thomas toy train brands. I plan to say more on this matter in a review of the diecast 2026 Thomas, but to say it simply, I believe this implementation cross-play with other toy train brands is paramount to Thomas staying an evergreen brand.
Anyway, regarding Motorized Percy himself... he's great! Out of the initial wave of five engines that've gone up on Amazon so far, he's definitely the most appealing. He takes great advantage of the visual cleanliness the push-button system allows, and he managed to retain the gold plastic piece forming his dome and whistle! They didn't even do that for the diecast Percy! ...which really bothers me...
But what doesn't bother me, somehow, is his face! I swear to god half the time I see people post about a 2026 Percy it's always captioned with 'Don't Even Trip, Dawg', and like... I dunno, I think he's fine! He definitely looks stupid and puntable, but like... he's my chud son. I don't really know how else to put it. He's just a little birthday boy!
Just like last year's Motorized Classic Percy, he comes with a Mail Car! It's incredibly similar in sculpt, and it retains the weird bronze wheels that I have to assume are derived from the reference sheets, because I've no idea why they'd be so insistent on this detail otherwise. Unlike the Classics Mail Car, it's got logos printed on *both sides* of the van, as well as an opening door gimmick that lets kids see the letters inside! There's no paint applications inside, and the door is made up of half the van rather than being the actual door part of the van, but I respect them for adding in a play feature like this to a Motorized single. Maybe this is just an instance of the bar being too low, but considering last year's two-car motorized trains either came with A Tender with Coal or A Cargo Car with Nothing, this is definitely a step up.
I will admit, the main reason I picked up Percy from Amazon is because I wanted a Mail Car for this new system. It's the only Mail Car in the Easy Connect lineup right now, so unless they make one specifically for the metal engines, this is it! Unfortunately the scaling between Easy Connect's motorized and metal engines isn't really that great, and the motorized rolling stock looks huge and awkward behind the metal engines. I'm sure this will be perfectly fine for some kids, but personally speaking this would have driven me *crazy* back when I was in the target age demo.
Stretching back to the beginning of the post, the Quality Control issues have been a gigantic can of worms for the 2026 motorized engines so far, to the point where half the people you see posting about them are showing off them sucking really badly at their intended purposes. It seems like the motorized engines may not be consistently receiving enough gear lubricant at the factory, since most people who open up their engines and add some report their problems vanish quickly. I'm happy to report that my Percy doesn't have any issues running, and is capable pulling four Wooden Railway trucks pretty comfortably. It's important to keep in mind that since all these new motorized engines are powered by a single AAA battery, they're gonna run out of juice a lot faster than their dual AAA or single AA equivalents, so be prepared for frequent battery swaps if you or your kid is a fan of extra-long running sessions.
Overall, I'd say Easy Connect Motorized Percy is alright. The new motorized engine system is definitely flawed, and I don't think these should have gone to market in the state they did, but my experiences so far have convinced me that these engines do a pretty good job when the QC is under normal conditions. I wouldn't begrudge anyone for skipping these, (especially considering how awful the tender engines are) but if you're willing to gamble, then I'd say Percy is the one to go with.

ATQT: T&F 2026 Exploring Tidmouth Sheds Train Set
So like, less than a week after getting the Bell Station set, this went up for sale on Amazon. Figured it'd be worth it to grab the set to compare and/or connect it to Bell Station, and this was definitely the right call because there's stuff worth discussing here.
ATQT: T&F 2026 Bell Station Train Set
I bought this set from a scalper because I'm a bad person and couldn't bear to wait any longer for a taste of this toyline. As soon as I got my hands on it, I had enough thoughts on it that I needed to like, write something longform about it. I have a lot of thoughts on the set, but TL;DR... yeah, it's good.
Bertie the Bus loves the wide open fields and the long stretching roads.

Having normal feelings about the little tank engine squished between two coaches controlling her…
