how much can i write before the poll runs out of time? how much red bull will i consume in the process? only time will tell :)))

Just a short piece I wrote for my Paladin, Vero. After the main campaign, he struggles balancing the new direction his life is taking with the Oath he swore as a young man. A Vengeance Paladin with no drive for vengeance simply, in his mind, is no longer worthy of the mantle. As such, he ventures to the newly restored temple of his gods to discuss his options...Â
Rating: General
Characters:Â Vero Helder, Feynri Mallowflower, Tyr (God of Justice and Vengeance)
Word Count:Â 1110
Note: The god âTyrâ is written here as having two forms, those of Justice (known as Tyrion from his time spent as a mortal) and Vengeance (envisioned as a suit of black plate mail). This is to reflect the canon of Veroâs campaign setting.Â
It was a quiet evening. Snow was softly falling on the steps up to the temple district, and Vero pulled his cloak closer around his shoulders. He was unarmoured, but not unarmed, as his Avenger sat hilted at his waist, tapping gently against his thigh as he climbed the steps. The newly restored temple to Tyr was located at the far end of the district.Â
As he passed the still-decrepit temple with Maskâs sigil above the door, Vero slowed his pace. He paused, looking up at the cracked symbol, and frowned. He bent at the knee, leaving a single gold piece on the crumbling steps, before continuing on his way.Â
Reaching Tyrâs temple, he shook the snow from his hair and entered, nodding solemnly at the cleric who greeted him at the door; a young wood elf girl, no older than 100, dressed in comfortable priests robes.Â
âGood evening, Mr Helder.â
âEvening, Feynri. I wonât be long, sorry to disturb you.âÂ
âNot at all, take as long as you need, ser.âÂ
Feynri tottered off, candlestick in hand, and continued checking the enchantments in the corners of the building, humming softly as she worked. Vero smiled gently as she passed him, and headed towards the statues at the far back wall of the temple.Â
On either side of an ornate altar stood two large statues. On the left, a dark set of armour stood ominously, hands folded over the pommel of a pitted iron greatsword that was staked into the podium before it. On the right, a marble man with golden hair held a shield aloft before him, kneeling with his shield angled towards the snow-covered skylight above the altar. Vero placed several gold pieces in the donation box just behind the altar, and knelt before the statues.Â
âI hope this channel of communication is still amenable,â he thought, pushing his thoughts to form a connection with his deities.Â
âIt is,â came the gruff response, and Vero saw a vision of blackened plate armour, followed by one of his prior companions, the man he still fondly referred to as Tyrion.Â
âThough it is unusual for you,â Tyrion stated. âI admit some confusion as to why you did not approach us in your usual manner.âÂ
âI thought this setting more appropriate,â Vero responded. âI wish to discuss the commitments I made in my Oath. There have been several years of peace since the fall of Brassaris, and my personal need for revenge has mellowed over the years. I admit that I no longer think myself worthy to carry an Oath of Vengeance into this new era.âÂ
âThis does not surprise me.â The armoured Tyrâs voice was steady and deep, almost echoing in his empty metallic shell.Â
âThough your worthiness has never been in doubt, your ability to uphold such a vicious Oath has caused me some concern,â Tyrion admitted. âHowever, it would be more concerning were you to abandon a faith you have upheld through such hardship.âÂ
âI do not intend to abandon either of you as my deities,â Vero assured the pair of gods. âI simply wish to enquire as to whether it would be feasible for me to serve in a new way going forwards. While my drive for vengeance has brought me through much, I no longer believe I hold the same desire for revenge I did when I first forged my Oath.âÂ
âThere are other paths,â came the grumbling response.Â
âIndeed. Perhaps your duty is no longer to seek vengeance for destruction, but to protect what has not yet been destroyed,â Tyrion mused.Â
ââTis an ancient vow,â said the armoured god, âand not one to be undertaken lightly, though I am aware you are no stranger to hardship in following, Vero Helder.âÂ
âAn Oath of knowledge, protection, and growth. A far lighter burden than the one you have carried thus far, my friend,â Tyrion said, a warm sensation tingling across Veroâs scalp as he did so.Â
âWhat is this Oath?âÂ
âAn Oath of the Ancients. Guardians of the Light, beacons of Hope in times of Darkness,â came the echoed answer. Though the armoured god was faceless, Vero could sense the caution with which he spoke.Â
âThose who kindle the Light of Hope, allowing others to grow in times of Despair,â Tyrion continued. âPersonally, I think it far more fitting for your new command. You have outgrown the anger you carried in youth. If we do not allow you growth then we, as your guides, are no better than those who seek to stifle the Light you seek to shelter.âÂ
âThen what must I do? If I wish to prove myself worthy of such an Oath, I-â
âVero, be calm,â Tyrion soothed, and Vero took a shuddering breath. âYou have done more than prove yourself. In your short life, you have committed more to our cause than some who live on far past your own years. It is on your shoulders our very faith was carried, and it would be my honour to allow you to recommit yourself in the fashion you see fit.â
âI⌠I donât know what to say. Thank you, my lords.âÂ
âDo you, Vero Helder, vow to shelter the Light of Hope from the wicked who seek itâs extinguishment, to kindle the Light of Hope in the face of Darkness, and to embody the Light as a Beacon of Hope for those who seek enlightenment?â The rumbling echo of his godâs voice shook Vero to his soul, but he swallowed his nerves.Â
âI, Vero Helder, shall shelter, kindle, and embody the Light of Hope. I vow to protect the Light in times of darkness and despair, and to share the Light with any who seek it.âÂ
âThen it is my honour to declare your Oath renewed. Go forth, Green Knight, and take the Light to those in need,â Tyrion said, pride evident in his tone.Â
A sudden warmth enveloped Vero, as his cloak tinged a deep forest green. Vines twisted around the Avengerâs hilt, and small flowers sprouted in the hems of his clothes.Â
âYou have our blessings, Green Knight,â spoke a fading echo as the vision of his gods began to fade.Â
âThank you. I will not let you down.âÂ
When his vision faded, Vero took a heavy breath, and stood. Taking a last look at the statues, he smiled, before turning to leave.Â
âGood night, Feynri. Iâll come by tomorrow,â he said, waving to the young woman as he exited.Â
As he passed the temple of Mask, he noticed the coin he left was no longer present. He frowned, but continued on his way, pushing the notion to the back of his mind.Â
Things are getting pretty desperate, and Iâve seen this work for a few other people in similar situations to me, so I figured this was worth a try.Â
TL;DR: I have no money, no current job prospects, and no food.Â
I am a 20 year old disabled student in the UK. I have been putting myself through university to the best of my ability, but my parents are unable to support me any further due to financial struggles of their own. The only support I receive from my parents is ÂŁ20 a week for food, petrol and personal hygiene. As you can imagine, this does not stretch very far.
A few months ago, an unknown (currently being diagnosed) illness forced me to leave my job. Since then, I have not been able to work or provide for myself. I am struggling to pay rent, get supplies for my studies, and feed myself. In order to spread food out each week, I havenât been able to have more than a meal a day, and that meal typically consists of beans and toast.Â
My parents cannot afford to support me, as they have my three younger siblings living with them at home, and they are giving all they can to help me, but the little money I have each week is stretched very thin.Â
So, this is hopefully where you come in!
I will link below to my commission info. I donât expect to receive free help, and I am more than willing to offer discounted commissions to people who offer their help. I also have a PayPal link and Amazon List if anyone is kind enough to offer immediate aid. If you would like any other information than what I have provided, please donât hesitate to message me!

Can't believe I'm doing this again, but here goes nothing.
I'm accepting requests for writing and editing work. My previous writing can be found on my blog, and evidence of more specific works can be provided on request.
I charge ÂŁ3 for works between 250 - 300 words, and an additional charge will be added for every 250 - 300 words above this.
This week, I started working with Daniel on the script as well. I was honestly struggling to get the amount of pages my group wanted complete in the time they wanted it done, so Iâm glad I had Daniel to help out. Itâs looking like heâs going to be taking over the script writing while I get other assignments under my belt, but I completely trust my team to help. Iâve given them a full breakdown of how I plan to write the rest of the play. This week, I focused on writing the ending, as I find having a book-ended story helps me to elaborate on the middle. Itâs helpful to see how something starts and ends, because it makes it easier for me to see how to get from Point A to Point B.
Iâve added an excerpt of what Iâve been working on this week below!
- Harry Jones
Learning Curve excerpt:
DANIELLE holds her hand out. SOPHIE hands her the papers and sits down, placing DODGER on her knee.
SOPHIE: Well, yâknow, I never actually told you why I got Dodger. Itâs just⌠you always talked about moving in together and starting a family, and-
DANIELLE: Are these⌠adoption papers?
SOPHIE: Well, you warmed to Dodger so quickly, and the idea was that he might have been a good⌠starter baby?

This week, we came up with a company name: Treats.
Additionally, this week I switched focus to Learning Curve, a lesbian romantic comedy about two women, Danielle and Sophie, getting a dog in their very small apartment. The general tone is intended to be light and comedic, with an emphasis on struggles within a healthy relationship. It has jokingly been dubbed âdisaster lesbians get a dog,â which I think is a pretty good summary! Iâve added an excerpt of the script below!
- Harry Jones
Learning Curve excerpt:
A dog barks. SOPHIE cringes. DANIELLE gets up.
DANIELLE: You didnât.
SOPHIE: Nope. Of course I didnât.
A dog barks again. SOPHIE smiles awkwardly.
DANIELLE: Sophâ, we barely have room for the two of us! Why would you get a dog?
SOPHIE: He was cute?
DANIELLE: Sophie!
SOPHIE blusters for a moment.
SOPHIE: Just- I was walking past the rescue centre, and he was in the window, and he was looking at me with these big, sad eyes, and I just- I couldnât help it! Just look at him, Danielle, heâs so cute!
This week, Chloe Quayle swapped into our group. It was quickly decided that she, along with Zayneb and Chloe M., would be working on the auditions and selection of actors. I continued work on The Curse of Kane Manor, and have added an excerpt of what Iâve been working on this week below!
- Harry Jones
Kane Manor excerpt:
LORETTA and CECELIA are stood on the terrace. Each has a large cocktail glass in hand. LORETTAâs is full, as though she has not drank, but CECELIAâs is half-empty.
CECELIA: I must say, itâs lovely having everyone back together.
LORETTA: I agree, but⌠is it not difficult for you? After everything?
CECELIA: Oh, Iâve more than put that behind me. I always knew Connor was a wretch, I just feel bad for Robert. I never wouldâve expected Harriet to go behind his back like that.
LORETTA: I doubt it was like that. Harriet wasnât the type to go around cheating on her husband
There are distant shouts, a muffled argument. LORETTA glances up, chewing her lip. CECELIA takes a swig from her glass.
CECELIA: Still, it canât have been easy for him. God knows it was hard for me to hear. Anyway, enough about that. After all, weâre supposed to be celebrating! Right? To old times!
LORETTA: Indeed. To old times.
LORETTA smiles grimly, and clinks glasses with CECELIA. There is a scream, and a body falls from above them. LORETTA screams, and CECELIA drops her glass. TRISTAN runs out from the main house.
Escape: a short psychological thriller, about a young girl escaping a kidnapping
The Curse of Kane Manor: a murder mystery, styled after the events put on by the University Murder Mystery Society (which Iâm president of!)
Learning Curve: a lesbian romantic comedy, based on a short story I wrote last year about two women moving into their first apartment
Shadow of the Wolf: a short crime thriller, based around twin brothers, one of which is a serial killer, and the other of which is a police detective
It was narrowed down to Learning Curve and The Curse of Kane Manor, both of which I started work on, prioritising Kane Manor, an excerpt of which I have added below!
- Harry Jones
Kane Manor Excerpt:
The guests are gathered in the entrance hall. ROBERT KANE appears in the stairwell.
ROBERT: Welcome, friends! Iâm so glad you all could join me. This evening, itâs not about the dinner, itâs not about the poker - itâs about us, itâs about old times. Now, drink up! Life is for the living, after all - and, who knows? I could be dead tomorrow!
ROBERT laughs, as do the guests, and everyone cheers.
This week we were assigned our groups for this semesterâs project, and were given our group project. My group (consisting of myself, Zayneb Chohan, Chloe Marshall, Daniel Marsh, Amy Readyhough and Bethan Tempest) chose to write and produce a play. I offered to pitch several of my ideas, and set about working on an act breakdown for each of them. It was decided that Zayneb would act as Project Manager, Bethan would be in charge of advertising, graphic design and posters, Daniel would be in charge of editing, and Chloe and Amy would handle auditions and stage setup.
I began working on the act breakdowns for each of the ideas I had, which I plan to pitch to my group in the next week or so. A few of the plans I have are from old short stories that I plan to convert, which Iâm pretty excited about. Iâll be posting excerpts from the play we choose to work on when I post from now on, as a way to track my own progress!
Still recovering from an attack in his youth, Kayden is haunted by nightmares. He tries to keep it from his partner, Adam, but certain things can only go unnoticed for so long.Â
Rating: General
Characters: Kayden Johnson, Adam Phillips
Ship: Kayden/Adam
Warnings: Homophobia, PTSD
Word Count:Â 466
Kayden wakes with a start, a scream sticking in his throat. Bleary from the nightmare, it takes a few moments for his surroundings to settle in, for his breathing to slow again. It had felt so real, so close, and then nothing all over again. Head still spinning, he gets out of bed, stumbling across the room to the small bathroom, practically punching the light switch as he passes. The light, through the partially open door, illuminates a small strip of the bed, and the mess of ginger hair belonging to his partner. Kayden leans over the sink, splashing water in his face, before fumbling through the cabinet for relief. Grabbing the near-empty tube, he sits down on the toilet lid and takes a breath, trying to calm the sea of anxiety rising and falling in his chest.
The aching scars covering his back are old, years old, but feel as fresh as the day they were branded into his skin. They always do, after the nightmare. Screaming, making his head spin and his ears ring, and the pain. Always the pain. It never leaves him and, as he rubs the soothing cream across the scarring for the millionth time, he was sure it never would.
The word was close to illegible after the marring from the skin graft, he was thankful for that small mercy, but the photo taken for evidence was forever burned into his memory. Thinking about it now, it almost didnât feel like he was thinking about himself, as if the picture had been taken of some other scrawny 16 year old, pre-graft, with âfaggotâ scrawled on his back and set alight. He remembered the pain, though, and that was what made it feel real again. He stretches his arm to reach between his shoulder blades, and winces.
âNeed some help?â Kayden looks up to find Adam leaning against the door frame, hazel eyes sleepily half-lidded and hair beginning to matt on one side. âYou need to start waking me up.â
âI⌠sorry. Can youâŚâ Â
âYeah,â Adam said, stepping into the room and taking the tube from Kayden. âIâll get it. Turn around, love.â
Adam rubs slow circles across the scars, and Kayden began to relax under his touch. Feeling him stop, Kayden looks back over his shoulder, nervous that this would be the time that Adam had finally cracked. It never was, but the fear never left.
âYou okay?â
âAsks the guy who just woke up in a panic attack.â
âAdamâŚâ
âI know, I know, I just⌠this⌠shouldnât still hurt,â Adam mumbles, rubbing at his eyes. âItâs been years, and it always feels like the first time. Nothing ever got fixed. Weâre still fixing everything, and it shouldnâtâve broken anyway.â
âWeâll be alright. I know we will. I love you.â

A short piece about my DnD character, Vero, dealing with the aftermath of a major battle. His PTSD rears itâs head, and he turns to the only person he currently trusts - his partner, Andre.
(For more Tempus Terra characters, see @outofcontext-tempusterra!)
Rating: General
Characters: Vero Helder, Andre Ariande
Warnings: Death mention
Word Count: 866
As the sun sets on the palace a third time, Vero finally manages to pull himself from his bed. The room is unfamiliar and bare, and has a soft orange glow cast across it from the setting sun. Vero stands at the window, watching the shadows from the nearby forest grow, thinking for a few minutes, before turning on his heel and leaving the room.
He pads down the hallway, bare feet cold against the tiled floor, and stops in front of another bedroom door. As he raises his hand to knock, he hesitates, chest tightening as he brings himself to rap his sore knuckles against the varnished wood.
Andre opens the door almost immediately, and smiles when he sees Vero.
âWhat brings you here at this hour?â he asks flirtingly, but Vero simply shakes his head. Andre frowns, confused. âAre you alright?â Vero shakes his head again, and flinches when Andre rests a hand on his shoulder. Andre falters, worried. â... Would you like some tea?â Vero hesitates, but nods his head, and Andre steps aside so he can enter the room.
The room is relatively simple in decoration, but has a distinctly warmer feeling to it than Veroâs. Unlike Vero, Andre appears to have moved some of his things from the Shepherdsâ base into the castle already. Nobody in the group has many personal items, they were extraneous and took up space, and resources were better spent on weaponry and materials, but Andre seems to have more than most. Several books are stacked on the dresser, tattered and worn from reading, and a rough clay teapot sits beside them.
Andre passes Vero and stands by the bed. Vero watches him blankly for a few moments.
âDo⌠Do you want to sit down?â
Vero considers the suggestion, and nods, taking a seat on the bed. Andre sits beside him, quiet for a few minutes, not wanting to push. There is a pregnant silence, broken only by the soft wind outside the window.
â... I got those men killed,â Vero says after a while. Andre looks down at him, and is surprised to find tears in his eyes.
âNo you didnât.â
âYes, I did. They trusted me with their lives, and I led them to their deaths. I shouldnât have asked them to risk that for me, they didnât deserve to die for my fight.â
âThis wasnât your fight,â Andre says softly, and Vero grits his teeth in frustration, biting back the desire to shout and scream and break everything he can see.
âTheir fight is my fight, Iâm part of this now. But I shouldnât have involved the Order, and itâs my fault theyâre dead.â
There is quiet again as Veroâs thoughts begin to settle, but the silence does not feel as full this time, as though the release of emotion is finally beginning to thin the heavy atmosphere.
âWould you have come if they called? If you knew that you might die?â
âOf course I would. I would die for any one of them. But that isnât the point.â
âYes it is. They knew what they were doing, they joined the Order to support others like themselves, and they died upholding that.â
Vero is quiet again, but the cogs turning in his brain might as well have been a slowly ticking grandfather clock, echoing in the silence.
âNo. It isnât that.â
âThen what is it? Vero, you can talk to me, Iâm right here.â
Vero hesitates and bows his head, tears beginning to flow freely down his face.
â... The last time I was in a battle that large, I was nineteen. I almost died, I saw my friends die, and⌠and I ran away. I carried my friend Bran from the Dusk Republic to Vordrung, and the whole time I thought he was going to die in my arms. All I could think was how much he had left to live for and⌠and that I-I⌠I should die in his place, if I could. Every time I bound his wound, I promised him that I would never let it happen again, not to him, not to anyone I could protect. I couldâve protected them, and I let them all die.â
âVero⌠That isnât your fault. You canât blame yourself.â
âBut I do. Every decision I make ends up with someone I care about dying. I left, and my family died. I ran, and Bran died. I tried to fight, and the Paladins died. Itâs my fault.â
âIâm still here.â
Vero very nearly convulses, trying desperately to keep the pain of his immediate thought inside. His chest tightens suddenly, and a fresh wave of tears spills over. He slaps a hand over his mouth to muffle the sound, but Andre moves it gently, letting him fall against him as he cries.
âIâve already died once, sweetheart. Iâm not about to do it again anytime soon,â Andre says softly, rubbing soothing circles into Veroâs back. â... Stay here tonight, okay?â
âAre you sure?â
âOf course Iâm sure, I want to know youâre alright.â
âIâm not.â
âAnd thatâs alright. You might not be right now, but you were before, and you will be again. You wonât feel this forever.â
I am a student currently trying to put herself through university.Â
However, as of right now, I am predicted to fall short on my basic rent by around ÂŁ1100 next semester. That is ÂŁ1100 I will not be able to pay for my housing, and the lack of additional funds also means I may not be able to pay for food.Â
My housemate is very sweet, and has offered to feed the two of us for the year, but I have refused to let him cover my rent. This means I need to find funding elsewhere. This is where commissions come in!Â
For just ÂŁ3, you can commission a piece of between 250 - 300 words. Each additional Coffee bought adds another 250 - 300, to a maximum of 5 Coffees per commission. Any additional payment on top of the 5 will be a separate piece, or a donation, so please specify what you want your Coffees to pay for!Â
Previous commissions, along with examples of my writing, can be found on my writing blog, @molollywritesâ. To ask about commissions, please send me a message there, or drop me an email at [email protected]Â to discuss what you would like to commission!Â
