The outlaw process & the art of slaying dragons

If you followed my old blog (you can find it at www.theoutlawprocess.blogspot.com), you'll know that for the second year in a row, we're doing an urban garden on the balcony of our apartment building-- 15 stories up above downtown Denver. 

Last year, we had just a few tomato and pepper plants, and a bucket o' lettuce. This year, we've expanded our repertoire and are growing four different kinds of tomatoes, black Hungarian peppers, wild leeks, spinach, mustard greens, cilantro, Italian parsley, several different kinds of lettuce, chives, basil, yellow lemon cucumbers, rosemary, oregano, bok choy, beets, potatoes in a grow bag, and a raspberry bush (which was planted last year-- we're hoping for fruit this year!). AND we started composting last summer as well, so a good deal of our fertilizer comes from our own banana peels, coffee grounds and other disposable food items, instead of going into the trash and down the garbage chute. All of this is happening in a roughly 8' x 12' space.

Here's a picture of our progress... the tomato plants were starters, but we're beginning to get lots of sprouts, too! Our balcony is going to be so lush and green this year... and we'll be able to get much of our produce from just opening the screen door and stepping outside, even though we're downtown in a big city. Now that's cool.

Oh, hello Tumblr! Blogspot, it’s been real, but I’ve been encouraged by a few other creative friends to shift my loyalties because this is simply a better visual format for we artist folk. So far, I’d have to agree.
