Dark eyes flitted over to him, not studying Erik, just... reconciling the man with the helmet and the cape to the man before him, he looked a little like a geography teacher, something unassuming. It was hard to imagine him crushing cars or deflecting bullets. There was almost a flinch at the word concentration camp, as if the horror got too personal.

It took a moment to compose his thoughts. "It's an idea I'm coming to terms with, being openly upset would be insulting. As for your experiences, I cannot imagine them, merely fear that future for our kind... And I won't demonise the choices you made, I haven't lived your life and I understand why your past would motivate you." It was honestly inspiring, he thought he was one of the few who felt like that. While Professor Xavier's ambitions were noble, sometimes... reality was not. That was a horrible truth.

"The man behind me... I like reading a lot, history and manga mainly, Japanese comics for a basic translation. My best subjects at school are history and mathematics, PE I'm abysmal at without using my mutation. I practice martial arts for health and self defense, my favourite food is tonkotsu ramen, I also like coffee and chocolate pudding. My favourite musician is Erik Satie, my favourite weather is a tropical thunderstorm with heavy rain and I dislike the nationalist route and re-militarisation Japan is heading towards." That covered the basics. He fidgeted, unsure how to get the last bit out.

His expression softened again. "You measure yourself against me, against Charles, against the loud men history insists upon remembering." A faint smile ghosted across his features. "Do not.You need not reshape the world in a single day to change it."

"So no..." he said quietly. "I am not merely 'okay' with what you have done."

His gaze held Saburo's. "I am proud of you." The words came without hesitation, surprising even Erik himself.

For a heartbeat, he simply looked at the young man before him...then Saburo mentioned his mutation.

Erik folded his arms loosely. "You needn't tell me if you are uncomfortable." His tone was gentle, leaving the choice entirely in Saburo's hands.

His dark eyes shone like stars at the declaration of pride, he'd been thanked by people he helped evacuate, but Saburo wasn't used to that. Yuichirou hadn't been affectionate like that, not about this. Wiping his eyes on the back of his sleeve and sniffing, he crouched down to his bag and looked through it. His shirt rode up to reveal bruising, fairly recent.

"It's fine. I don't mind you knowing." He'd pulled out a chunk of metal from the bag, a scrap of some kind of sheet metal, twisted and torn. "Bit of Sentinel armour plating." Putting it down, it's shiny surface reflected the light. Standing back, he pointed at it. In an instant, a bright beam erupted from his finger, the metal flashed white and all that remained was a smear of grey residue once the vapour cooled.

"A pain to find?" A faint smirk touched his lips. "I should hope so. I do not make it a habit of annoucing my whereabouts."

He accepted the letter with careful fingers. The amusement faded as he read. Each line drew more color from his face until, by the end, silence had settled over him completely.

Saburo...His son...

Erik folded the letter with far more care than he had opened it and looked at the young man again. Really looked at him this time. Dark hair. The nervous habit with his shirt. The uncertainty in his eyes.

For a long moment, he simply stood there. No speeches. No anger. Just the heavy realization that, once again, life had handed him a child he had never known existed.

Watching his face carefully, Saburo ensured his gaze didn't go to the paper, it was private. Whatever Asaka's relationship to this man was, it was none of his business. Running fingers through his dark hair, the gaze of the older man made him a little self-conscious, like a specimen under glass.

"You respected her privacy. That speaks well of you." He gave a small nod. "Many people would have opened it. Curiosity is an ugly thing that my children tend to have."

A faint smile touched his lips, though there was little to no humor behind it.

"And it matters because," he answered softly, folding the letter once more and slipping it into the inner pocket of his coat, "what is written there concerns more than your mother and myself."

His gaze drifted briefly, thoughts clearly elsewhere, before returning to Saburo.

"Tell me, Saburo..." he asked quietly, already knowing the answer would hurt no matter what it was. "Do you love the man who raised you?"

His eyes searched Saburo's face again, with the bewildered wonder of a man staring at a chapter of his life he had never known existed.

"I ask this because, whatever truths your mother entrusted to me, I will not repay her by tearing apart the life you have known without understanding what it means to you."

His voice lowered slightly.

His eyebrows raised at the statement that the contests of the letter concerned more than his mother and the addressee. He'd stopped picking at the shirt, the dark gaze scanning Erik like a security camera, boring into him, neutral body language and no obvious expression. "More as in people, or more as in events I should be aware of, hm? That's the million question, isn't it?"

His body language tightened a fraction upon the mention of his father, his gaze turning colder. Not angry, not hostile, just taken a little off guard and clearly not used to such lines of inquiry, letting Erik speak. Truths that once spoken cannot be gathered up again, the toothpaste won't go back in the tube once squeezed out.

A moment passed before he blinked. "Kusanagi Yuichirou... He's not a bad man. He didn't beat me, he wasn't cruel... I wouldn't call him a loving figure, just very Japanese and . Wants order in his own home, everything in it's place. Doesn't say I love you, it's shown through provision, paying for things, responsibility, acts of duty and service. Stern, but fundamentally a good person. I do love him, even if he doesn't understand all of me, even if parts of myself frighten him."

There was no bitterness in his voice. Quite the opposite. "He raised you, fed you, protected you, and gave you a name." His eyes lowered briefly. "Those things carry weight."

For a breif moment a silence lingered between them before Erik finally met Saburo's gaze again. "You asked whether this concerned more people." He took a slow breath. "It does."

His expression had become almost impossibly solemn. "The man you know as your father is your father in every way that matters to the life you have lived." He gave another pause wanting to be carefulwith his words. "But he is not the man from whom you inherited your mutation."

For the first time since opening the letter, Erik's composure cracked. It was a flicker of regret passing through his eyes.

"Years ago, your mother and I knew one another for a short time. I was never told she was carrying a child. Had I known..." He stopped himself, shaking his head almost imperceptibly.

"The truth your mother's letter to me is a simple one." Another slow breath escaped him. "I am your biological father."

Saburo stopped fidgeting when Erik continued speaking, not out of disinterest but more the restless energy had something to focus on. So, Yuichirou didn't give him his mutation, could the female line inherit it? Mutant epigenetics were not his speciality.

The revelation made the younger mutant exhale. "I... I knew my parents had a rough time for a few years around when I was born, both career-focused. My mother felt like she was being asked to sacrifice her career to become a stay at home mother, the thing she wanted to avoid. My father wanted more support in her taking the traditional role because he thought that's how it should be. I didn't know she'd met you more than once or twice... I think they called it a trial separation, being together all the time made them irritate each other. I thought I brought them back together." Saburo explained, trying to make sense of it, as if speaking it aloud gave him somewhere to arrange it other than his head.

His dark eyes took in Erik again, the same nose, the brow. Perhaps his skin being lighter than his siblings. "So... This complicates things. There's several organisations I wouldn't want knowing about our link, some may view me as a weapon, or a cause, or a prophet... Adds weight to what I do, ne..." His native Japanese intermixed with his English easily, the slight Hokkaido accent peppering it. His fingers rested slightly on the doorframe, contemplating. "There's also you... I know from enough sources about what you do and why you do it, but nothing about you as a person. The man behind Magneto, so to speak... As for myself, it's courteous to fill in the gaps." Saburo offers.

"I was born in Okina General Hospital about 9 months after you last met Asaka, and for most of my childhood things were perfectly normal. Two older brothers, Shoichi the eldest and Jin the middle of us. Then, when I was in high school, my ability manifested. Some of the local bullies thought I'd be an easier target without Shoichi or Jin around. Then my mutation happened, a fear response... They were destroyed instantly, people thought they'd ran away. Since then, I've not publicised it." It felt odd, openly admitting it.
