I’m abandoning tumblr.
I have used this site since 2010--categorizing my thoughts and feelings; talking out my life’s choices and trajectories; and of course sharing many-a-meme. I remember the pre-yahoo years, back when there weren’t shitty advertisements everywhere and the servers would crash from too much traffic ahem, wild Tumbeasts.
I don’t exactly know if/when i’ll delete my account just yet. Simply for how I have thousands of memories and thoughts here.
I began using it more and more infrequently as its user base got younger and I continued to age. I don’t understand 80% of the shitposts nowadays. But I stuck around for 1) the nostalgia of the safe harbor/community it provided as I came into my own understanding of my gender. 2) for the porn.
So, I guess I can understand why they’re getting rid of adult content. I’ve read their reasoning. But I’m pissed. And due to principle alone, I won’t continue to contribute to their daily user totals and I’m deleting the app. This site has served its purpose, but it’s time for me to move on.
