#somehow i regularly see posts denying that grace's happily ever after placing him in the same roles we saw him in at the beginning #a warm and engaging teacher; a quick friend to Everyone #—that were explicitly argued to leave his life already so effectively devoid of connection that the sacrifice of his life #is less of a sacrifice than if he had more normative relationships with a spouse and/or children and/or pets— #is saying anything at all about that framework by showing that the happiest end for him involves exactly zero of those relationships #and instead echoes his relationships with his students & carl in his eridian students & rocky. his arc is not about those ever being empty #and ngl phm highlighting that this IS what a happy full life looks like for him was one of my favorite details about the film
