Hope everyone here has been having a great holiday of your choice! Iām mostly doing discord 1x1s so if for some reason that is something you want please feel free to message here, there, or where ever. Since Iāve been MIA for a few months I generally play Regulus and Seamus but Iāve been experimenting with Remus and other characters so feel free to tell me what you want and I can see if I can do that.
ā times like these, dark times, they do funny things to people. they can tear them apart ā

I was just reminded how much i adore Seamus Finnigan as a Single Father verses... so I decided to poke my head back in for a flash. If anyone is likeĀ āactually thats exactly what I want to play in indie or 1x1 or w/eā let me know.
can i not have a face claim for a muse? is that allowedĀ anymore?
I mean this is how i function 99% of the time with Alphard and Regulus lbr
...i am hardly writing on here but the sentiment stands

I am back from vacation...not sure how much Iām going to start up but i do exist again...so if youāve been dying for something of my ilk by all means ping!
A conversation on the fluidity of terms, and how to understand and have a productive conversation with a shifting generational gap in trans terminology.
i feel like there are some segments missing or out of order? having trouble parsing. twitter is such a terrible platform for longposting.
modern internet activism is incredibly privileged thanks to social media and that results in some astonishingly brazen bigotry against older people or folks who didnāt have internet coming up, outsiders who created our own identites alone in the wilderness. some of us didnāt have sympathetic allies or even access to literature, let alone the instant support and validation of thousands of likeminded weirdoes around the world who let us know we were normal. we had to start withĀ ālet there be lightā and hope for the best. the people who blazed the trail shouldnāt be pushed off it or told to walk faster, thatās garbage. old people rock and old queer people know how to throw rocks.
Iām pretty much avoiding this segment of the internet right now BUT I think that this is exceptionally important to understand and that maybe the handful of people who follow this account might find it valuable.
Alright everyone gatherĀ āround for Internet Grandma (but not literal Grandma) fights the internet before I go on to vacation and enjoy not cluing into tumblr dot com.
Yāall gotta chill.
Like Iām worried youāre going to stress yourselves out to death over getting grumpy over someone whose not mutual liking a post or sending a well-meant message or a meme. Yes, of course, its important people read your rules...but not many people are going to go off from their dash to reread rules to double check... xyz
And no one will know your character better then you especially if theyāve likely been idly following for a few days/weeks/months and just decide to message.Ā
BUT SARAH THEY LIKED MY POST AND I DONāT LKE ANYONE I DONāT KNOW LIKING MY POST
Dearest, that is a sign of someone who thinks youāre pretty cool and would like to get to know you. Donāt want to have people you donāt know liking your post? Donāt do promos, donāt go into tags, and hope for the best. The only way to avoid it entirely is to never do open posts or open requests and simply pursue what you want in direct messages...
And we all know how well people like doing that!
BUT SARAH I SAY I DONāT WANT TO BE MESSAGED/TALK TO PEOPLE UNLESS I DECIDE I WANT TO
Again, donāt do promos, donāt go into tags, and hope for the best. This is not the age of calling cards and personal introductions. If you decide to pursue a social activity like indie rp... people generally will try to interact with you.Ā
A lot of that interaction is clumsy! Or maybe that character doesnāt work for you. Or maybe you just donāt want it as said... but the most you can do is lock down your messaging, lock down your ask (or just turn it off) and make it very hard to find you.
BUT IF I DO THOSE THINGS I WONāT GET THE PEOPLE I ACTUALLY WANT
That is true. You have to decide whats more important to you: the purity of your posts or your desire to meet new people.
BUT SARAH SOMEONE GOT SOMETHING WRONG ABOUT MY CHARACTER
Its frustrating and annoying and it sucks--but that is on the person who messaged. You can try to clear that up OOC, you can adjust the narrative IC to account for it (my go to if its in storyline), or otherwise but in the end, given Indies style, its kind of impossible to expect everyone to review information each and every possible conversation. Your partners are often on mobile, replying or messaging while doing mandatory real life stuff--try to have some grace about it.
If you keep having to assert your character changes with the same person, then it might not be a good character match.
if youāre offline or away and i message you something (like a link to a meme or a picture or w/e) honestly just assume that iām just leaving it there for when you get back and not expecting you to answer straight away. i donāt need you to respond withĀ āhey, sorry, i wasnāt at the computer!ā or anything. i was leaving u a gift for later.
This also applies if youāre online and just donāt want to or have the energy to deal with humans in the moment. Just because we have the ability to reply in real time does not mean we have the obligation.
Please recommend me good books series because I am travelling to Belgium in two days and I need reading material for the plane and airport wait.
I really love fantasy and scifi so something similar to Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Vampire Academy, The Deathstalker serie, Inheritance cycle, the Maze runner, the Gem trilogy or His dark materials.
This is your chance to get me into your book series ! ^^
I am sorry to do it this way but I have run out of space!
its a bit dated but if you want a lgbt fantasy Night Runners series by Lynn Flewelling
Something more het romance with a dash of humor Gail Carriager (any/all)
queer and dark Amberlough (if you read to his one I do want your thoughts later)
if you haven't read it Naomi Novikās Uprooted is a delight and then thereās the historical dragon books she has (His Majesties Dragon)
I enjoyed six of crows but havenāt read the second, Iāve also heard good things about other books the author has written. Dark fantasy with a fantastic cast of charactersĀ
Something short with a magical world feel? Every Heart A Doorway and the rest of its series will do very nicely.Ā
Another more scifi option is Binti by Nnedi Okorafor (and its sequels) if you want shorterĀ
Top of my to-read list includes
Tomi Adeyemi - Children of Blood and BoneĀ
Becky Chambers - The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet
The City of BrassĀ by S. A. Chakraborty

Alright RPC ā We Gotta Talk About Passive Replies.
This is one of my worst pet peeves in Role playing or doing any collaborative writing with other people. Itās something I myself have been guilty of, especially if my muse is running low and I am forcing out replies. Itās something I see a lot of even from very good writers. Itās a widespread problem, that is exhausting for an RP partner to deal with in threads especially if itās every reply.
And just like any problem ā the first step in resolving it is looking out for it and realizing itās there to begin with. Being conscious about this I personally believe separates a good RP partner from a great one.
Iām talking about passive replies.
Passive replies come in various forms. They can be anything from a novella sized reply ā to a one-liner but they all share a similar trait. They do not contribute to pushing the action of a thread forward. They tend to be a summary of the reply preceding it through their characterās eyes with a small verbal or nonverbal reaction to the character they are interacting with. They do not add any new information for the other character to react to because the reply is pure reaction without any proactive elements.
This means your thread basically becomes the equivalent of a conversation like this:
Hey, you!Ā Oh, Hey! How are you? Oh, Iām good. What are you up to? Nothing much, really. Have any plans? No. Not really.
Itās a functional conversation ā sure, but itās one-sided and relies on one person driving the action while the other simply responds. It is exhausting for one mun to constantly be the one driving the action of a scene forward. It makes things harder to respond to because youāre giving your RP partner fairly little to work with. The example above is obviously an extremely simplified example - but I hope you can get the gist of what I am getting at.Ā Ā
Even if your character is shy, or anti-social, or maladjusted in someway ā your replies can still play and active role in the situation. Being an active participant in a thread doesnāt meant that your muse has to be crazy and outgoing. It means that you have to do more than simply react to what is happening. Every reply should add at least one new thing for your partner to react to.
This can be anything from adding to the conversation ā not just reacting to what was said prior. This can be your character doing some non verbal action. This could be and NPC or outside situation or the weather doing something to react to. No matter what the situation is ā there are things your muse can do to be an active part of the scene, and not just a reactionary prop.
If your replies or even your starters are one of these two things:
1) Expecting someone to find or stumble upon your muse in someway. Or relies on your partner to initiate some action between your characters. 2) Is just a summary of what happened in their reply through your characterās eyes without adding anything new.
Itās a passive reply ā and by nature harder to respond to. It means you should consider looking over your reply and tweaking it to give the other character something more to work with to take the pressure off and your partners should be doing the same for you. After all a conversation like this:
Hey, havenāt seen you in forever! I know right? What have you been up to? Honestly ā nothing much. Workās been murder. What about you? Ah thatās unfortunate. Iām the same, but Iām going out for drinks later want to come? I canāt tonight, have to wake up early tomorrow. Maybe we can catch up later?
Is a much more interesting conversation because both parties are doing their part to drive the action forward.
Itās easy to say that passive replies are spawned from laziness or poor writing. But theyāre not (the vast majority of the time anyway). Even good writers who make beautiful replies do it. I personally think it spawns from equal parts insecurity and good intentions. People donāt want to rock the boat, or take risks with their writing in case they accidentally step on any toes. Not realizing of course that they are putting strain on the writer they are working with by letting them drive all the action.
It can be exhausting.
Roleplaying is a collaborative writing experience. A great RP partner is someone who works with you as a team to tell the story of both your characters. Each person should be putting forth new things to react to and being an active part in building something awesome. It makes for a more interesting read and more dynamic plots and quite frankly more chances for characters to build genuine chemistry.
Otherwise, you end up with a lopsided plot and a burnt out RP partner. No one wants that.

š„ Indie Roleplay
Iāve been mia for a few weeks other then queuing memes and then forgetting about them but! I felt like replying to this today.
Indie rp is really interesting and has pros and cons that areā¦virtually the same thing
ProĀ
You can decide, without warning or notice, that you no longer want to associate with a given person and just drop a line or interaction or stop following
You can decide at will you want to play or focus on or whatever~ any given character
The con is that so can everyone else.
I find this fascinating. Because its like a continuous cycle of people treating others exactly how ā¦they donāt want to be treated. Then they end up having a similar experience and then it cycles again. Iām not even excusing myself here, mind.Ā Everyone has favsĀ or particular plots they prefer orā¦Ā
And then emotions get into the mix. X person does Y and that hurts someones feelings but conversation about it never happens so later it just circles back around, sometimes with petty talk in the background sometimes not.
Silly. Middle school nonsense no one really wants to experience and yetā¦
Thats really it, though. When someone saysĀ āI donāt like xā player or starts spreading rumors they have no back up to you can practically set a watch to the following reasonsĀ
one player is jealousāabout the lines, about the interactions, that that player plays the same character but people like them more, that they used the same icon⦠whatever. about the somethingĀ
someone was hurt at some point and its a gamble on if the other player even knows they hurt someone or did it consciouslyĀ
alt snideness (which shouldnāt be discredited but most often the most viciousness of any given thing is one of the above)
Really, this salt post has very little salt from me at this point. I go through cycles, too, where in I put a lot of effort or energy into trying to message people and get things going etcā¦
and then I realize it makes no difference except feeding into cycles and rp⦠its nice, but its not anything that matters, in the end. Or, rather, the OOC interactions probably matter more. Writing wise, as much as I enjoy itāI donāt need a bunch of followers or a bunch of people wanting to interact with me. Iād rather have a few interesting threads⦠my main horse? is in other areas. My ego? not in being a big name rper in the shrinking pond.
tldr lets all try to be a little nicer to each other in rp
