Setbacks In an ideal World things would always go accordingly to plan, planning wouldn’t just be useful and comforting, it would also be the key for the perfect life. This is not a perfect world though, is it? This past week has been quite challenging, I was supposed to be only studying for the first anatomy exam, happy after the first two exams as a medical student done, instead I ended up having to reorganise it all after things didn’t go accordingly to plan. I’d lie if I said I just accepted this quickly and started studying again, failure is an important part of life but it’s not easy to accept and use there and then. I got anxious and I tend to get stuck when I’m anxious, the more I have to do the more I find myself staring at nothing and wasting time. Today I’m here to say that it’s okay, setbacks hurt but they’re only momentary, we’re still on the right track, we still deserve this place we fought for, we’re still good enough. Let’s all breathe, learn from them and move forward! Q. How do you deal with setbacks?

Studying in the park. My life is so messed up, I am so messed up, but even if I sometimes feel like giving up I’m not giving up yet, I’m too young and my dreams are too big to give up!

Coordinating working full time, studying and taking care of the house with mental health and bad things happening in everyday life is just so so hard and tiring.

I’d honestly just relax today and I feel like I deserve it a bit but I wouldn’t be able to relax anyway because I have the studying deadline stuck in my head, I’m afraid I’m going to fail.

I’m also having issues with my boyfriend which I wish were not as distracting and just moved in this new place because I had issues in the previous one.

Can I get a break? Ugh.

Four rules for a disciplined life

No zero days. ‘What’s a zero day? A zero day is when you don’t do a single fucking thing towards whatever dream or goal or want or whatever that you got going on. No more zeros. I’m not saying you gotta bust an essay out everyday, that’s not the point. The point I’m trying to make is that you have to make yourself, promise yourself, that the new SYSTEM you live in is a NON-ZERO system. Didn’t do anything all fucking day and it’s 11:58 PM? Write one sentence. One pushup. Read one page of that chapter. One. Because one is non zero.’

Be grateful to the three yous. ‘There’s the past you, the present you, and the future you. If you wanna love someone and have someone love you back, you gotta learn to love yourself, and the 3 you’s are the key. Be GRATEFUL to the past you for the positive things you’ve done. And do favours for the future you like you would for your best bro.’

Forgive yourself. ‘Maybe you got all the know-how, money, ability, strength and talent to do whatever is you wanna do. But lets say you still didn’t do it. Now you’re giving yourself shit for not doing what you need to, to be who you want to. Heads up champion, being disappointed in yourself causes you to be less productive. Tried your best to have a nonzero day yesterday and it failed? So what. I forgive you, previous self. I forgive you. But today? Today is a nonzero masterpiece to the best of my ability for future self. This one’s for you, future homes. Forgiveness man, use it. I forgive you. Say it out loud.’

Exercise and books. ‘Pretty standard advice but when you exercise daily you actually get smarter. When you exercise you get high from endorphins (thanks body). When you exercise you clear your mind. When you exercise you are doing your future self a huge favour. Exercise is a leg on a three legged stool. Feel me? As for books, almost every fucking thing we’ve all ever thought of, or felt, or gone through, or wanted, or wanted to know how to do, or whatever, has been figured out by someone else. Get some books.’

27th January 2019 - 13.01

I’ve got a huge list of things to do and a lot of planning to do. Still I only just managed to get out of my bed. Still my back hurts and I feel weird, not sure if I’m actually ill or if it’s anxiety related. Still I’m eating junk food and it doesn’t really help but whatever gets me through the day at this point. Still the thought of the things I need to do and especially of the consequences of my failure paralyses me. Still I need to do and getting out of bed might seems stupid but it’s an accomplishment. Still I’m going to fight agains myself and work this out somehow.

Still I hate my mind.

Following the aspiration to keep this blog as a very honest place where I can write I thought I’d share this. Just one corner of my messy room, my room tends to be as tidy as my mind usually and at the moment I feel very messy and tired.

I’ve got a huge list of things to do and about zero energy, also I’m working from 17 to 2 tonight and I just can’t be bothered. I wish I could just stay home and have a hot bath and then come back to feel myself, regain control.

This is just one corner and I can read so much in it, the cold I’ve been having for a week (that’s why there’s toilet paper), I can see the unearthly food I’ve been eating in my bed, I can see my water (‘cause I get so thirsty at night).

In days like this I doubt myself, I doubt myself everyday, I believe in my potential but I’m terrible at organising and following plans which sucks. But anyway, I can learn, I can get there. Doesn’t matter how tired I am.

Some people are lucky enough to be able to just go through with it and some people struggle with their minds like me, but I’ll get there, I’ll get there.
