Announcing... JILY WEEK 2025! 🌸🌸🌸

Last year, Kelsey ( @kay-elle-cee ) and I had a blast hosting Jily Week. We were blown away by the enthusiastic participation — 85 works from 27 unique creators, including fanfiction, art, videos, and more. We are, of course, delighted to bring it back this year, so clear your calendars and start your plotting for August 25th to 31st!

To participate, post a creative work corresponding to the daily prompt – fanfiction, fanart, playlists, metas, moodboards, etc. – anything goes! You can participate in as few or as many days as possible, but we challenge everyone to try and create something for every prompt, even if it's only a hundred-word drabble or a 5-minute sketch! Don't stress about meeting the exact prompt or the deadline - the most important thing is to have fun with it!

Remember to tag your works with #jily week 2025, mention @sunshinemarauder and @kay-elle-cee, and add any fic you write to the Jily Week 2025 AO3 Collection.

I’m white so obviously take what I have to say with a grain of salt but it does set off some alarm bells for me to be casting a Black man to play a character who is:

* Repeatedly described in the text as extremely ugly

* In part defined by an unrequited romantic and sexual obsession with the (white) protagonist’s mother

* Textually a former member of a racial supremacist organization, only defecting after the death of aforementioned white woman

there are so many points in the books where its just casually dropped in ‘and so Harry and/or Hermione had to physically restrain Ron’ usually from Malfoy but if Harry or Hermione weren’t paying attention it became ‘and so Ron punched Malfoy in the face’. 

Like, Ron cursing Malfoy for calling Hermione Mudblood wasnt just a one off thing like every time he did that in the future when Ron was there it was like ‘ron had to be stopped from ending Malfoy’s life’ just thrown in there. Same for any other severe insults.

My absolute favorite instance of this is in the first book when they’re just watching a Quidditch game and Malfoy just starts bothering Ron and Hermione during it and is finally like ‘man its pretty funny how the Gryffindor quidditch team is recruited based on pity like y’know Potter has no parents, Weasley’s brothers have no money they should include Longbottom for having no brains” and Ron just flings himself at Malfoy and starts punching him and rolling around under the bleachers and Neville is like “uh shit i guess i better fight CRABBE AND GOYLE BOTH AT ONCE so they don’t go after him” (very underrated moment of courage from Neville he knew he had no chance but he just went for it honestly almost more impressive than confronting Voldemort in book 7)

and they’re just fighting for like twenty minutes and Hermione doesn’t even notice because she was so focused on tuning Malfoy out and watching the game and when its over she looks around like “where’d ron go” and then later its mentioned “Harry sees Ron and his face is covered in blood and he’s like “GOOD JOB WINNING THE GAME HARRY I GAVE MALFOY A BLACK EYE SO WE BOTH DID GREAT THINGS TONIGHT oh btw i have detention for a week and neville’s unconcious but they say he’ll be fine”.

“I’m not going to take any crap from Malfoy this year,” [Ron] said angrily. “I mean it. If he makes one more crack about my family, I’m going to get hold of his head and-” / Ron made a violent gesture in midair.

It's hard to look forward without looking back.

The year has been heavy with personal losses and ever-mounting discontent within the wizarding world.

But some things, some things make everything lighter and brighter.

James finds her easily, sat atop a rock on the edge of the frozen lake.

“I'll be grand for the party, just taking a breather.”

His hand reaches for hers, palm to palm their fingers slide together, entwined, together.

She smiles adoringly, she feels it too, stronger as one.

His heart settles to a steady rhythm, sure and content.

When they get back in the pick-up, three doors thud close in quick succession, which – it shouldn’t be, that’s creepy, because it’s only James and Sirius who are supposed to be getting in as far as James is aware. James almost injures his neck in his haste to look behind, and sure enough, Remus is there. Of course he’s just there, materializing out of fucking oblivion. That makes sense.

He’s texting someone, Remus, the phone light making it look like his face is floating in the dark. James can barely see in the poor lighting, but he frowns at the bulky mass beside Remus; that is, unmistakably, his worn backpack full to bursting with his stuff.

“Moony. Hello there. What the fuck?”

“Peter can’t come,” is what Remus says, still typing away. “He’s grounded. Apparently he snuck out last time when we went to the fair.”

“Good, because I didn’t invite him. As a matter of fact, I don’t remember inviting anyone.”

“Well, I’m here.” He looks up from his phone. “Hello,” he greets them tonelessly, then finishes typing whatever. The whoosh of a sent text fills the silence, then he pockets his phone. “Should we go?”

Sirius is quiet. He didn’t look behind like James did. Maybe he didn’t hear, maybe he knew that Remus would be here, maybe he doesn’t care. He certainly can hear shit now, but he’s sort of just glaring at the road ahead.

James tells Remus, “Please tell me you haven’t been sleeping on some damp park bench again.”

“If I’m going to sleep on some damp park bench, James, it wouldn’t be at any park near here. Do you know who lives around here? No offense, Sirius.”

“All offense rightly deserved and taken,” says Sirius.

“Remus,” says James, stern.

Without looking up from his phone, which he has again busied himself with, Remus raises his free right hand in mock pledge. “I swear, most solemnly, that I haven’t been sleeping on some damp park bench again.”

“Alright.”

He drops his hand. “Because it’s not damp this time.”
