People have been living in the downtown area of Tucson, Arizona for at least 4,500 years. The greater Santa Cruz river valley has been occupied by humans for 12,000 years.

That's not a river. That's the South Canal in Mesa, Arizona (Phoenix metro area).

This is a view of the East and South canals. At least half of all the Phoenix metro canals were originally built by the Hohokam (from roughly 200-1400 CE), and are still in use (restored) today.

Phoenix, Arizona actually has more miles (kilometers) of Canals total than both Venice and Amsterdam. No, really. Phoenix has about 180 miles of canals, many of which are built on ancient canal foundations.

wait lemme add my fav, this is acoma pueblo aka sky city and it is considered to be the oldest continuously inhabited community in north america and it is on top of a mesa!

it was settled for the first time around the 11th century by the acoma pueblo people and has since survived a thousand years of natural disasters, invasions, wars, famines, you name it because it is strategically nearly impenetrable:

there are still around 30 people that live here permanently with several hundred that come seasonally or when the work week is over, and they are open to visitors so i highly recommend going to check it out if youre ever in new mexico and if you do make sure to talk to some of the folks that live there while you're at it!

8:49 a.m. For no reason other than it was there, I read an article about which trees you shouldn't plant because they either have short lives, grow to be nuisances, are invasive, attract undesirable insects, and so on, and I saw a formosa tree labeled as a "mimosa" which confused me. Then, because I thought I was crazy, I looked it up to confirm the naming convention and read that "formosa" was colloquial to the American South, but it was worded odd and passive aggressive:

I couldn't tell you why, but the AI blurb makes it seem like what we call it is incorrect, when the naming convention I grew up with is rooted in a foundational Portuguese word with a global story. Plus, the more I read, the more the tree being called "mimosa" is ironically even more inaccurate to the tree itself:

Language is so funny, but fuck the AI aggregator for its "well ashooally" phrasing. It's a Persian Silk Tree with a gazillion local names and none of them are more inherently correct than the other. Also the tree's root system runs deep, and may cause problems to pipe work and plumbing, so keep it away from your house if planting. You'll thank me later.

8:59 p.m. Every two to eight years I like to change up my vocation, sometimes in completely different industries, but I've done it so many times now that they're all starting to bleed into one another. Training has been a breeze and when I thought I was relatively underqualified, they tell me I'm killing it. This is cool. I'm excited to skip seasonal work for a change and *actually* have time off.
