so i didn’t get to this in my analysis of cardan’s absolute gorgeousness, but cardan’s body seems to change throughout the series. he definitely stays on the leaner side, but as he begins training in the court of shadows he seems to gain some muscle as compared to the start of the series.

i think where most of the confusion comes from is that in tcp he’s definitely pretty lanky and slender. i think he also has at least some knowledge of sword fighting but never trained it or developed it properly so he didn’t grow the muscle as early as jude did.

however in twk and tqon when he starts training with the court of shadows it’s mostly off-page (if not completely off-page) so i think it gets forgotten. cardan also doesn’t have as much motivation to grow that muscle since he doesn’t wish to be a murderer nor does he need to become physically powerful when he’s already in this powerful position. so i think he only becomes more muscular out of pure necessity.

it’s also possible that during his time as the snake he could’ve lost some of that muscle like someone does when their body is very ill?

anyways this got a bit off track and wasn’t purely a body type analysis but the bottom line is that he starts off as a pretty skinny noodle armed boy and developed more muscle as the series goes on, but still not a whole lot of that makes sense?

cardan greenbriar appearance/ drop-dead gorgeousness analysis bc we ALL know how beautiful this man is

in tcp jude has an ENTIRE monologue about how gorgeous cardan is so let’s go through that first, shall we? she describes him as: “and cardan is even more beautiful than the rest, with black hair as iridescent as a raven’s wing and cheekbones sharp enough to cut out a girl’s heart.”

and when cardan confronts jude during the mock war she says: “i am struck suddenly by his height, by the arrogant sneer he wears like a crown.” so my man is a tall king and almost always has a sort of smug expression.

and then when she’s in hallow hall for the first time and accidentally walks into his room: “i am instantly sure who’s room i’m in. those are prince cardan’s extravagant doublets and breeches, prince cardan’s gaudy, fur-edged capelets and spider-silk shirts.” so it’s safe to say my man does THE MOST with ootd’s and probably looks like he just walked out of dress to impress every time he gets to lessons.

also, i can’t find the exact text, but cardan’s eyes are pure black save for a ring of gold around his iris.

and don’t forget to note his long and slender fingers that jude NEVER fails to mention.

as for body type i’m pretty sure he’s described as fairly slender though, again, i can’t find the exact text.

ahhhh i also forgot to mention jude describes him as wearing plenty of rings on his fingers. (then ofc later in the series he wears the stolen ring from jude that he later proposes with 🤭)

jude appearance/beauty analysis

so locke describes jude as her hair being “as beautiful as curling woodsmoke” and her “eyes the exact color of walnuts”.

jude also describes herself by saying: “already we are taller than vivi, our hips wider, and our breast heavier.” so it could be fair to say that she and taryn could be a bit curvy.

she often wears her hair in horn type things as well as often having intricate braids or knots tied into it.

there’s also the official art by frostbite.studios on twitter (x but whatever), that we can go off of.

in pt. 3 of whatever this (series?) is, i started to get at how cardan protects the human servants and hallow hall and often tried to rescue them, even taking beatings for doing so. so could cardan have also been trying to protect jude throughout the series?? as much as he ‘hates’ her, there are many times throughout tcp that cardan has *subtly* protected jude in one way or another. take the scene when valerian tried to kill jude by feeding her faerie fruit and nearly suffocating her with it and cardan KICKS HIM OFF OF HER. “abruptly, valerian is kicked off of me. i roll onto my side, coughing. cardan is looming there… “enough,” cardan says. he has an odd, wild expression on his face and a muscle jumping in his jaw.”

so not only does he physically remove valerian from jude, but babygirl is PISSED. and while jude is intoxicated this is stated; “for i moment, i think they’re going to fight, although i cannot think why.” like my mans was ready to FIGHT VALERIAN.

just some more evidence from that scene: “everyone is so dull today,” cardan says, but he doesn’t sound as if he’s bored. he sounds as if he’s barely keeping his temper in check.”

“noggle turns away from us, … cardan watches him go, hands fisting at his sides.”

and then a page or so later , nicasia tries to command jude comes and licks her hands clean of the faerie fruit. “no,” cardan days, stepping in front of me, his voice ringing and a little unsteady… “jude will come here and kiss my foot. she said she wanted to kiss us. and i am her prince, after all.” i think this could be interpreted in two ways, one being that this was him protecting her again, OR, that he was jealous. it could also be a bit of both. but cardan being jealous of others when it comes to jude intrigues me because he shouldn’t want something ‘less than him’ like jude, but he does. i want to point out another insight to cardan’s jealousy here, when jude overhears nicasia and locke talking. “are you enjoying yourself?” i overhear nicasia ask locke once, as he joins them for a lecture. “cardan won’t forgive you for what you’re doing with her.” so after reading, this is most likely about taryn and locke’s secret relationship, but it could also be referencing how locke is actually manipulating and toying with jude’s feelings by pretending to like her for sake of his ‘dramatics’. they could be really saying that cardan won’t forgive locke for hurting jude, protecting her again and also alluding to his jealousy as he probably believes only HE is allowed to mess with or hurt jude.

see, cardan’s feelings are very contradictory when it comes to jude. he likes her for reasons but hate her for those same reasons. he wants to protect her yet he also hurts her. anyways i thought these were interesting points to bring up.
