The Basement Cat Index

Hey okay look I really hate to do this, but if you guys could signal boost this I would appreciate it more than I can say.

If anyone in the CINCINNATI AREA wants a cat, maybe consider giving this little baby a home? Her name is Kasha.

She’s about a year old now. She’s very energetic and friendly. She’ll get right up and lick your face and nuzzle you. She loves to play fetch with her mouse, and she loves attention! She’s just so sweet.

But Remy’s moving out and can’t take her, and I’m not in a good state/position to take care of another living being right now.

Important info: - We have not been able to get her spayed, nor does she have shots as far as we know. Our inability to facilitate this is frankly another reason why we’re looking for a new home for her. - She IS fully box-trained. - As far as we know, she’s nervous but not too unfriendly around dogs; pretty much fine with other cats; and LOVES people - She comes with (if you want) a carrier, litter box, claw clipper, remaining cat food, and all the toys we can dig out of hiding for her and you! Also while she doesn’t have fleas or worms we have some medicine for these things.

We got her from a coworker literally the day before our car was totaled, and if we’d known that was going to happen, we probably wouldn’t have taken her in. She’s made these past few months better, but again, I won’t really be able to love on her the way she needs/deserves on my own.

The Babes: Patriot and Kahlo

Patriot, a black American shorthair, was adopted nearly six years ago to the day from a nationally recognized pet adoption center despite the adoption associate’s urging that I shouldn’t do so because, as she said, it was inevitable that he would die and would do so soon. Obviously I took him home anyway. Best decision.

Black cats, of any age, are the least adopted and the most euthanized in American shelters, simply because of their color and the superstitions, stereotypes, and stigma surrounding it.

Kahlo, a tabby-patterned American shorthair, was adopted just over a year ago from a local shelter. Though in much better shape than Patriot had been, she was still one of he least healthy animals at the shelter and the most fearful of people. Now, just over a year later, she is happy and healthy.

I moved out in October and I knew she wouldn’t go with me. It was one thing imagining her being a cat, doing her cat things still, even though she wasn’t with me. I got the call yesterday afternoon that she passed away. There was no indication prior, she seemed just fine. I think the hardest part is not knowing why and not getting to say goodbye. STBEW and I aren’t exactly talking and I have no idea how to broach that conversation.

I always joked that I’m not necessarily a cat person, but I’m a Lucy person. I will, forever, have an affinity for black cats.
