Rescue Pets Are Awesome!

This our most recent addition our family. We have had him almost 2 years now and he has been one of the best things that has even happened to me. His name is Jimbo. He is a rescue from a local shelter and a flood survivor. He rules the house and likes to push boundaries. He loves to go outside (chained or supervised) and loves to watch the birds outside our windows. He is such a good boy with very good manners, he's very polite and respects the rules as long as he knows that they are there for a reason (he likes to learn the hard way). Such a good guy. Love him to pieces.

This is Angel. We took her in off of the side of the road when she was only a few months old almost 5 years ago. She was thin and frail but now she is this beautiful, snow loving, mouse catching farm cat. We tried her as an indoor cat, but well, she didn't like the solitude so we put her out with the other cats. She is just a fluffy sweetheart. 

This is our other rescue cat Ashes. He is about two months old and we took him in only about half a month ago after some friends of ours found him on the side of the road next to his mother who had been shot. He is an inside cat, mostly because the other cats didn't like him. He is a crazy, sweet, hyperactive kitten.  

This is Mittens. I rescued her when she was 6 years old, and now she is 13. She is the light of my life. I met her during a dark time in my life, when I was struggling with depression and anxiety. She was a sad, scared little thing who hid from everyone and didn't seem too happy to have been kicked out of her home of 6 years. I understood her, and gave her time and space, offering her treats and toys and a soft bed. Eventually, I earned her love, and working so hard to care for her and being rewarded with purrs and headbutts helped ease my depression. I was doing good. I mattered to her. I was making a positive impact on her life and I needed to keep going, for her. Now, she and I are both healing well. She greets strangers and faces the world with courage. When I am feeling down, she is by my side always. It's a cliche, I know, but she's the one who rescued me.

Went to the shelter and was about to leave when they brought in a tiny angry ball of fur. Buffett captured my heart at that moment and we were together for almost 20 years. She was my constant companion until 3 years ago. Miss her every day but wouldn't trade it for anything

This is Buzz. My family adopted him 8 years ago from the ASPCA. He was the first dog we ever had and he has been amazing. At first he liked to fight with other animals and nip at children, but by working with him and training him with a beagle that we took in he calmed down and learned how to play with other animals. We still can't let toddlers around him because they don't know how to play gently with him, but Buzz loves older kids. He spends most of his day waiting to sleep next to somebody in the bed and playing with squeaky toys.

This is Willow. My boyfriend and I adopted her through our local humane society. Her previous family moved out of town and couldn't take her with them. She was at the shelter for 9 days when we found her. She wouldn't come out of her cage to see us and wasn't too friendly but to us, all she needed was a forever home. Boy were we right! The very next day she was napping all day in our bed and on our couch. Now her favorite pastimes include staring out the window, eating, begging for food, and playing with her favorite string.

This is Zev. When I was looking for a dog, my former coworker worked at a shelter, so of course I went there. She knew the dog I had come to see, and although she agreed that dog was a good boy, she wanted me to meet this one first. He had been at the shelter for 6 months. She brought him into the room, and he immediately laid down and turned his back on me, huddling against the door. He shook. He turned his head just barely to take treats from my hand, then immediately back to the door. I honestly didn't think I was up to the task. So I said no, I'd really rather meet with the dog I had come to see. I was sharing a house with my sister, and her dog, Apple, is very selective about other dogs. Apple did not like the dog I had come for. At all. So, on a whim, I had them bring out Zev. They started playing. But I still didn't think I could handle his fear. So I said no. I went home. But I couldn't get this dog out of my head. So when I got up the next morning, I decided that was it. He was coming home. We had to carry him to the car. He wouldn't get within ten feet of it. He shook when we looked at him. When I took him for a walk, he tried to hide in a drainage culvert when the school bus let out. But slowly, he started relaxing. He'll always be a fearful dog. But now we run agility. He goes to day care three times a week. He's the best friend I could have asked for. Because I gave a terrified dog a chance.

This is Gus. I adopted him a year ago after he was found running loose with no tag, microchip or any responses to his picture being shared on the shelters social media. He's my best hiking buddy, nap partner and all around friend. He loves his car rides and is just about the friendliest dog I've ever met. I'm very lucky to have him ❤️

This is Frankie, he was chained up and abused and then abandoned. When he was rescued he did not do well in the shelter and if he did not get fostered he would be sent to another shelter to be euthanized. He was being fostered by a (now) friend. So months later we go to take my other rescues to the park and we see this older lady being drug by this large dog. We knew after seeing him and talking her we had to have him so we went to pick him up the same day.

This is Jet pep. All they could tell us about her is that she was abused in some way and they found her at a Jet Pep. When I first got her my little girlie was not happy. It took her so long to get settled in because he would snap at her all the time now he protects her they're almost inseparable. She's a very happy dog she loves to get in bed and stare out of the window or to go running with Frankie.

Frito (formerly Freedom) showed up at a friend's house. She took him in, searched for his owners, had him vetted and fixed and tried to integrate him into her already multi-cat household. Frito bullied the other cats, so I took him in where he can be an only cat and king of the house!

This is Miss Dixie Belle.We adopted her during our time in KY. She started off as a foster and we ended up adopting her a few days after we first brought her home. When we first brought her home, we could tell that whomever had her before us didnt treat her well at all, so we took extra steps to make sure she knew that she was safe with us. She is our baby and we wouldnt trade her for anything in the world. 

We adopted Bonnibel this past October to come live with her sister Marceline the Manx kitty, a previous rescue.  Bonnibel is either a Lhasa Apso or Havanese mix, mostly a tiny bundle of fluff either way.  We were actually the ones who found her running in the street and brought her in to the local shelter, but she already had us in love with her little puppy antics from the second we spotted her.  We visited the shelter every day during her reclamation period, and when no one claimed her, we brought her home!

This is Nessarose, my 2 year old Shepard mix. She came from another shelter in PA and was moved to Adams County SPCA. We think she was a stray ( we never got a consistent answer oh well) because she was very skinny and scared of literally everything when we first got her. She's a bundle of energy and has come a long way since last December. She has so much love to give and I'm glad she's with us because we have so much love to give her 💕✨

This is Francis. He came to me from a stranger I had met once who only knew I had pet rats. I didn't want another boy but I agreed to take him. Since that day he has changed my entire life, introductions with my other boys have not gone well and he is currently living alone (he has two spayed girlfriend comeing to live with him soon.) Francis has a rare type of tumor in his brain and has seizures, there is no estimated life expectancy but I hope my boy stays with me till his end. I love him to pieces, he is my heart rat.

This is my buddy Sockko, now known as the most interesting dog in the world because he poses like this all the time. I got him from a coworker who couldn't care for him anymore and he was a bit of a hot mess but came into his own. Now he keeps me from being a hot mess.
