ELROND & ELROS: SONS OF SIRION
i wanted to do a painting for @tolkienfashionweek but alas, time was not on my side so please accept an illustration. featuring elrond and elros in what i have decided is the traditional masculine attire commonly worn in Sirion, but with extra bling since they are, after all, royalty.
so thinking mostly in terms of sand and sea, i drew mostly from Indo-Arab maritime cultures for this one, including the Marakkar privateers along the Malabar coastline. features practicalities like rough/‘sailcloth’ textured shirts, loose harem trousers, ‘strung’ jewelry, simpler and lighter designs as opposed to heavy brocade, lots of light patterned shawls, kohl eyeliner, and headscarves.
my specific headcanon for this picture is that Elrond and Elros posed for and got this painted close to the end of the First Age for a specific purpose, ie to be sent to Elwing via one of the departing ships at the close of the War of Wrath, and she has it hanging up in her tower, although it’s also a bit depressing because the Sirion background is rendered in light, uncertain charcoal because Sirion no longer exists at that point, and the twins don’t live in climes where they can walk around in outfits like that without freezing to death. also, Elrond never sees that earring again because Maglor someone borrows it for a performance and messes up putting it into their ear and threading it through the multiple holes, and it ends up welded there forever.

I honestly feel like nobody in lotr mentions how fucking weird Legolas is. He stays up pacing the floor and singing to himself in the dead of night. He deadass stares straight into the tree line in the absolute pitch black when no one else can see anything. He yells goodbye to a river he has heard about in songs. He's so strange and not one character mentions it AT ALL. I absolutely love him.

Had the worst day I've had in the last few years but in pursuit of pretending it didn’t exist, I decided to hyperfocus and finish the Eönwë in the most normal helmet commission I shared here 🥲

Arda Ephemera: a page from the Lindon Times in the Third Age, featuring an article about a strange creature found wandering on the grey shores, wherein the next issue reported that said creature had been seen breaking into the publishing office in order to vandalise the printing press stencils and thus ensure that the layout of aforementioned article was to his preference.
Those who guessed that this WIP was Maglor (ie everyone), you are absolutely correct! This was just me trying out a new pencil brush and practicing drawing clothes, but I thought it would be amusing if I story-fied it a little...

Took a couple hours between commissions today to draw a (very very) quick and messy sketch based on one of my very lovely stocking fills, in which Curufin spirals over a splinter being the only injury he gets at the First Kinslaying. Do you ever think about that after Celebrían had sailed to the West Elrond was alone. His daughter left Rivendell and went to Lothlórien, and the twins entered this murderous rage hunting orcs phase and were almost constantly not in the Valley but who knows where.
And like. He was/is essentially the best healer in Middle-earth but he couldn't heal his wife. As a father he is supposed to protect his children from any harm but he couldn't shield them from the pain of their mother's leaving. And he can't protect them now, as they are not here with him. Yes, the rest of his household is with him but as his family is not. He is facing one of the biggest (if not the biggest) loss in his long life and he is all alone and could only hope that he won't loose his children as well.
