Why Does Armand Kill Larry: Transcript
Okay, so all season long we've been leading up to this whole vampire war of the Great Conversion, and it's seeming more and more like Lestat is going to be on Gabriella's side, at least for now. We have the "make more(vampires)" motif showing up in his music all of a sudden, and then towards the end of the episode TC sort of, uh, quotes that back to him, and then it's implied that he's going to turn at least her into a vampire.
Then on the other side of things there’s Armand. He's telling Lestate to knock it off, right? It seems like he's building up this cult around him of people who believe in, like, the great laws and of not turning more and more people into vampires, etc.
So we get to the part of the episode where he kills Larry, and at first I was a little confused, like, why specifically is he going after Larry, but then I thought about it in regards to what his motivations seem to be, and it starts to make more sense to me.
I think what Armand is doing is he's kind of trying to tear down the support around Lestat, because Lestat has become this kind of Katnis type, in that he’s become this sort of symbol for people who want the Great Conversion, right? Whether he's fully into it or not, he's kind of symbolizing that. The beauty of being a vampire. The struggles of vampirism, and now he’s pushing Gabriella’s ‘make more of us’ sentiment. So I think Armand killing Larry is meant to, you know, continue to drive a wedge between them, especially since it happens right after Larry leaves the band.
Likewise, think about what Armand tells Daniel, of all people, this episode, that Lestat is sleeping with his mother. He tells him that— investigative journalist Daniel Malloy, who is very obviously going to tell Lestat that he knows, and probably Louie too. This is going to tear some walls down around Lestat for sure.
And honestly, I can't blame Armand, Like, "Oh, Armand is so evil, Armand is so fucked up." Yeah, well, at least Armand isn't trying to lead a vampire genocide against humans. At least he's trying to combat that in some way, because it's very obviously a fucking ridiculous thing, and we shouldn't be listening to Gabriella at all, and Lestat shouldn't be either.
Anyway - I really enjoyed this episode, and I really enjoyed the decision for him to kill Larry, and I think that there's clear motivations behind it, and hopefully other people can see that and don't read it as just Armand being evil for the sake of it.
