like he knows what it feels like to have everyone you love ripped away from you and by having kids it's almost like you're setting them up for that inevitable. he would feel guilty before he even dies, especially because he feels like it's his sole purpose to fight after the universe took everyone away from him he'd just be battling both sides of shame within himself constantly and it would easily make him resentful which is basically the plot of both winter soldier and civil war. and it's so much worse when it's romanogers bc not once have i seen it be adoption so just removing that part of her character because you think it would be romantic is exactly why she felt unlovable in the first place? among other things ofc. and he's obviously stuck in the past i mean you could talk about his chemistry with anyone from his debut but at the end of the day he did go back to peggy. he literally says he left the vision of that domestic life in the 40s and i think that's a perfect way to put it. just seeing the way he treats wanda and peter like it's so vastly different but also so awful either way but like maybe it could've worked in the 40s idk... but now he's just like the uncle who was never stable enough to have kids then coming over for a family reunion and messing up everyone else's parenting just cause he thinks being older makes him more mature. and that sounds really harsh like he's a good friend but we just haven't seen it be implied that he could be a proper parental figure, we've been shown the opposite i think, like we have with tony or thor (and i'm talking like iron man 3 tony not just when he canonically has a child, though i guess you could make the argument against thor i just think love and thunder did a pretty good job even before the whole daughter thing). and at the end of the day i really don't care but i see a lot of people include him having an infant in their work and idk i just personally don't see him caring for anyone older than maybe two years old as the primary father figure.
