this was also out at chippokes, but i wanted to give them their own post, as it didn't feel right to lump them in with all the other photos.

we found this little bird in the sand, somewhat desiccated, missing their beak. otherwise completely untouched. i didn't feel right leaving them there-exposed, alone. so i built them a little shrine. i think of them by the name "adrift"

i gave them a cover of more driftwood after, to allow them to rest a little more peacefully. at least for a little while.

more autumnal scenes, this time at pocahontas state park. it's impossible to overstate how much i want to truly, accurately portray the way these places look to my eye, and how they make me feel.

if you look closely at the third photo, you'll see that robber fly has its prey pinned underneath it. some sort of wasp or yellowjacket, difficult to tell.

i want to sink into the ground in these photos or walk into the river tbh

darker scenes at first landing state park. one of my favorites—ocean on one side of the road, forest on the other. some really incredible color combos on this day; i’m a sucker for a pretty sky in general.

especially fond of the wasp. i learned to appreciate them significantly more after once raising their larvae to adulthood in a nest knocked down from a front porch. i used rehydrated dog food to feed them! someday maybe i’ll dig up the video i took.

some of the last blooms of the summer in the zuni pine barrens, antioch pines natural area preserve.

i almost touched that lynx spider accidentally trying to get a good shot of those flowers together. had to collect myself for a few minutes before getting a few shots of her instead.
