Sometimes I really want to take everyone under the age of 24 (as of 2026) by the shoulders and say:
"I'm really sorry that lockdown and the ongoing pandemic interrupted pivotal educational and social/emotional development moments for you. You have an uphill battle towards adjusting to a lot of community based efforts because you experienced a mass trauma during an incredibly important time in your life where you should have physically been around your peers learning to engage in shared community. There is no "but" here, I'm genuinely really sorry. Something many of us consider key points in our interpersonal growth as youths was taken from you, not without reason but without care for its impact on you. I hope you know we are eternally allies in our struggles and if that is something you struggle to know I hope you can learn it someday."
Because so many of the angriest, most disenfranchised people I see on this website are under 24 and I often try to put younger people's behavior in the context of where they might have been 2020. I've seen the impact on my siblings and their peers+friends first hand, all ages 18-24. We've talked about how its impacted them, the isolation, the attachment to the internet, the anxieties and phobias and fears it developed in them due to the pandemic, the political unrest, and the responses to both that we've seen since. I know they're not the only ones and I know how much being marginalized also influences that impact too.
It's terrifying. I know it must be terrifying for a lot of the young people on Tumblr too. I hope one day we're able to bridge all of those complex feelings into something collective and positive so we can do our best to prevent similar traumas from happening to future generations.
Also instead of working today I went to the movies by myself and saw the sheep detectives and it was cute and funny and emotional and I enjoyed it.
remember that pride is still a protest
Greg had a tooth extracted and can only eat soft foods, so he had scrambled eggs for dinner.
I was like that’s fine because I only ever want cheese and bread anyway so this is my dinner.

JUNE THE THIRD, AN EXCELLENT DAY!
We had a very busy (and sad) end of may. My FIL passed, and then G & I went on the vacation that we planned in like, January, then had my FIL’s memorial right when we got home. We saw a lot of people who we love, so that part was nice. And Washington/Oregon are still very beautiful, so that was also nice!
Tomorrow is my birthday and for that I’d like a happy Pride month for everyone, more trees and flowers and nature in the world, and less horrible stuff just *gestures vaguely* everywhere.
I’m not in at work until 1 today so I think I’m going to go plant some more flowers in my garden as soon as I finish this coffee from our bagel place.
This Pride Month, we’re celebrating the beauty of diversity above and below the surface. The ocean is full of vibrant life in every color imaginable. It reminds us that nature thrives when everyone has space to belong.
Environmental advocacy and the LGBTQ+ rights movement share a common purpose: protecting vulnerable communities, caring for the spaces we all call home, and creating a world where we all can flourish. Our world is brightest when people can live authentically, love freely, and be embraced for who they are. From rainbow reefs to shimmering tides, diversity makes our blue planet stronger, healthier, and more inspiring.
Here’s to protecting our ocean, uplifting every voice, and honoring the colorful communities that make this world so wonderful.
Our bagel place was kind enough to make lemon lavender bagels their bagel of the week for my birthday week!

Amaury "Chocolate Guy" Guichon is undoubtedly an extremely skilled sculptor in chocolate but I think my favorite thing about a lot of his videos is the effort he puts into putting actual dessert food under the sculpture work
So many of his desserts & pastries have at least 5 layers of different textures & flavors. Fruit jams, caramel, cake, creams, mousse, cookies, meringue, crumb layers etc
That's what makes his work truly impressive to me, especially as someone who quickly got tired of the "knife that turns everything into cake" thing, where it was all basic chocolate cake buried under 13 layers of fondant
It takes amaury's work from an impressive stunt to "if I ate that, it would probably be the best thing I'd eat in my whole life"
are you sensitive to the heat? heatwave tips ahead from your resident bedbound blogger. obviously drink water and get fresh air yadda yadda we already know that. but ALSO:
wear light colours, they basically bounce light n heat away whereas dark clothes absorb heat. also wear looser clothes
apply cold packs on the back of the neck, wrists, and ur stomach which is where your biggest artery is. if you cool the blood you cool the body
try positions where each limb is in minimal contact with other limbs if that makes sense. think starfish, open palms, spacious. you want to minmise the amount of skin touching other skin. ur own body tends to warm itself up whether you want it to or not
check more frequently for pressure sores if youre a wheelchair user, couchbound, or bedbound. sweat is a risk factor for pressure injuries
eat foods with high water content
splash water on the back of the neck and wrists
if the air temperature is above 35c /95f then a fan will NOT help you. try other cooling measures
if it’s humid like if you’re in the uk like me then try a dehumidifier. the humidity is part of what makes uk heat dangerous even when the temperature isn’t that high
Also wear natural fibers! Synthetics don’t breathe and trap your body heat. Linen is the best for this if you have it but cotton works too.

Why are all music teachers like this 😭😭😭
THEY ARE
when i was 8 i had a very intimidating russian woman as a music teacher- she was both my opera instructor and piano teacher. about a month into piano, she sat me down and said to my mother and i "this child- very beautiful voice, good for singing. i will not allow this child to continue piano. god did not want this child to play an instrument. he told me this in dreams. that is all."
my mom had it written down on a slip so we could remember the exact words because it was so funny. i HATED playing piano and i was definitely not good at it (i did end up having a good 5 years of opera training and ended up being a pretty accomplished choir singer though) and the idea of god sending my incredibly severe and serious russian piano teacher a dream begging her to stop teaching me piano was probably the funniest way it could have gone.

Got my period right as we got to the airport pretty much. It’s going to be a long flight. The restaurant we are at before our flight is out of literally the only thing on the menu that I wanted. So I’m getting salad and just removing the meat, which should decrease the price but never does!
TSA/security line was much nicer this time at least.
And it was a good vacation.
Just not happy that I need to be on a four hour flight with cramps.
