Me, completely confused because we’ve never said we found David Tennant attractive (and also kind of creeped out because I’m an introject of a character he plays): h u h

Her, not noticing anything’s wrong: All British guys are ugly why do you like them so much

Me: David Tennant is Scottish

Her: Oh

Me: Yeah

Her: [referring to Matt Smith] That guy’s kind of hot

Also it’s awful to try and “out” someone as an aphobe, with all their social media, just because they made a few nebulous criticisms. It’s disgusting behaviour.

I’ve also been able to use sanders sides as education for singlets. “You know that thing Thomas sanders does? That’s code-switching personfifed to the Nth degree. These aspects are similar to DID, and these aspects aren’t.” It’s so much easier to explain with a point of reference.

I have my own issues with Sanders, but I think the majority of his work comes from a good place, and so I’m not saying he deliberately misinformed people. But it’s still a pattern of misinformation that has had consequences and if he honestly thought TSS didn’t represent peoples view of DID, it shows he didn’t do enough research.

I honestly don’t know enough about backclash to him, but TSS and more importantly it’s presentation of things like DID is still an issue, and it’s a shame that a genuine argument was used to further ace exclusionism. Also, if he did apologise, then why was nothing honestly changed?

my guys. my dudes. what about the systems who were plural since birth and got traumatized in their teens.

what about the systems who were unintentionally created during childhood and were traumatized later in life.

what about the systems who were genuinely not traumatized.

To some of them, it isn't even necessarily the issue or cultural appropriation, it has to do with the fact that POC get put down, made fun of, etc. For their cultural based names, whereas a white person with those names are more likely to have it seen as "beautiful" or "unique"

One thing I learned from my sociology college class when we were going over racism and related issues was there's a very real problem of employers not calling applicants that have an obvious "not white name", so a POC with a "white" name has a chance of being called back versus if their name rang the "POC Bell" in the employers head. A woman named "Susan" is more likely to get a call back than a woman with a less "white sounding" name. A lot of immigrants historically were forced to change their names upon migrating to the USA, or the people flat out wrote their names incorrectly.

Using the bible as an argument is sort of counterproductive. Many of those names are translations of the actual names in the bible, not the exact name that was necessarily used historically.

There are plenty of cultures in Europe who's names are available! Beautiful names with beautiful meanings originating from Europe.

And there is acknowledgment that there are vague names that people don't know were once rooted in another culture, or were changed to fit ~western ideas~

All very good points I hadn't considered.

I will say that I'm still pretty on the fence. Names are very individual and have broken away from culture and race in so many ways, I think it's really very invalidating to ask an Alter to change their name. The flip side being that almost none of the Systems I have ever met identify as their Alters outside of the internet. So it seems wrong to ask them to change it when it is a part of them.

Still taking things under consideration and I fully understand what you're saying and I can see where the issues would be. Always a tough topic isn't it?

Huh, it’s almost as though white people make mistakes when they talk over POC - don’t talk down to us about our names again, acknowledge you have no idea what you’re talking about, and leave this debate to actual POC! Also, the discussion of issues affecting POC as a white person to prove a point is incredibly shitty, and the entire tone of the ask just comes across as incredibly condescending.
