I feel like I say this ad nauseam, but every time I worry I'm too annoying about promoting my work, someone always comments something along the lines of "I've been following you for over a decade, what do you mean you wrote an international bestselling book?"
And I'm like, welp, time to reblog some stuff, I guess ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ
You what
I... okay, hold on. I've got a copy-paste response for this...
(ID in alt)
Hi, I'm Joy Demorra, international bestselling author and general disaster.
This is my book. Hunger Pangs: True Love Bites is the first book in the Hunger Pangs series, a queer, polyamorous, paranormal, gaslamp slow-burn romance featuring vampires, werewolves, and various other creatures that go bump in the night.
It started out life as a Tumblr shit post and became an international bestseller within several hours of pre-orders going up. No one was more surprised than me.
It features Nathan, a deaf, disabled werewolf newly returned from war, and Vlad, a neurodivergent mad scientist vampire trying to unionize the workforce of the island in between tripping over all his various ongoing projects. (free healthcare, free schooling, y’know, small hobbies)
The other main character is Ursula, an all-powerful [REDACTED] working to save the world from imminent ecological disaster. The main romance arc of book one focuses on Vlad x Nathan, with Ursula forming her own relationships with them alluded to in the next book.
No love triangles here. Just three highly competent bisexuals sharing the same brain cell the closer they are to each other.
The world is set in a pseudo-regency meets fake Victorian Gaslamp Fantasy world, complete with gothic castles, enchanted forests, and just a smidge of industrial coal dust.
One of my favorite reviews ever described it as "the queer, goth love child of Terry Pratchett meets Jane Austen," so if that sounds interesting to you, you can check out my links below.

Why are there two versions, and what's the difference between them? Glad you asked! You can also find content tags on my website at www.joydemorra.com if you want to find out more.
I'd put them on the book itself, but Amazon would pitch a fit.
So, yeah. I wrote a book. I'm writing several more. I'm just recovering from almost dying in the same year I published the book. Because that was also a thing. Anyway. ✨Book✨
#OP should write a book — good news!
Like clockwork, lmao.
Twice in one month! New record!
Okay, this sounds like a book worth checking out! Out of curiosity, are there any plans for releasing a hardcover version or would that be a 'down the line when the full series is released' sort of thing?
Thanks for asking! At the time when I first released these, my options as a self-pub author were limited in terms of getting it distributed, and then after the market options expanded it just became a task I never got around to.
I am *hoping* by the time the second book comes around, I will have hardback options available for all my stuff that are affordable and widely available.
At the moment I just have the limited edition hardbacks that were supported by my patrons over on Patreon. I do have a few boxes of those left--and I will be putting those up for sale on my Payhip hopefully soon.
So the answer is, yes! Eventually, hopefully. I'm just working on a lot of things and trying to get it all lined up :)
I know this is the evil capitalist site, but this just made me laugh
Sex is cheap - fluff though? Now that will cost you! 😂
I LOVE your art style!
It’s so soft like it’s almost gliding but it also has these sharp, detailed parts? Like it gives me the vibes of like… oil pastels drawn on black or colored paper.
So then you can scratch off the oil colors in intricate designs (“i just want your heart”) or draw shapes behind where you’re going to draw the characters to provide a further background for your subjects (“boyfriend sweaters”).
I also really enjoy the symbolism you put in - like the words behind Cater in “i exist” changing from look at me to I exist, which you won’t notice unless you actually take the time to look at the image and pay attention to the words more than just a passing glance.
“i exist” is probably my favorite, along with “i just want your heart” and “would roses bloom.” (definitely loved the Eilish song reference, it worked really well there)
Anyway, I just wanted to pop in and say I really enjoy your art. 😊💜
hello hello 🥺 i know it's been a couple days already i honestly am still a bit at a loss for words bc ur just probably an actual angel i think? this is the nicest thing anyone's ever said about my art and im gonna treasure it forever ngl and i mean that bc i put u in my sketchbook lmao so!! thank you so so so much i hope ur having the best day ever for the rest of ur life tbh bc u sure made my day better!!
I’m so glad my ask could make you happy! I just wanted to share my appreciation! 💜
Oil pastels are suuuuper messy and smear a LOT from what I remember. But they’re also VERY vivid! Especially on black paper. And then using something like the end of a paperclip or a needle to scrape the color off to see the black paper under the color? It can be a REALLY cool effect! The heart designs in the background of “i just want your heart” really reminded me of them, but reversed - color on black.
The “i exist” Cater piece is the one that really gives me the oil pastel vibes. Idk… this is just me looking up “oil pastel drawing on black paper” on google and this is kind of the vibe I got from the Cater piece and some others from you with the black backgrounds!
Just soft and gliding but also SUPER vivid and popping color!
So if you can handle a kinda messy medium, I think you may enjoy it! 😁
But definitely keep making art - you’re amazing at it! 💜

My only epic rarity item and… I don’t think I’ve found any easter eggs in video games. 😭
Or at least, not that I know of and/or recognized.
Well this sucks.

What games have opened doors for you in real life?
Feed your dashboard by answering my question, blogger.
Surprisingly, Twisted Wonderland.
Because of twst, I started an rp account on here. Because of that, I met some great people (and some not so great…) people that I am still in contact with now, even though I am no longer rp’ing because the rp community on here switched to a different style I didn’t vibe with.
Along with that, twst also introduced me to quite a few amazing fanartists and fanwriters on here too. I actually help mod a discord server one of them made and I lowkey love the shenanigans and chaos that happens there.
Twisted Wonderland has made me so many new friends and that’s honestly the best thing I could ask for as a transfer over into real life. 💜

That depends, can I get back? What are the repercussions? Do I get to be a normal citizen there, a vacationer, or is this like an izekai situation?
Like I can’t answer this without more info! GIMME THE DETAILS OF THE TRAVEL!

What final boss actually broke you?
Feed your dashboard by answering my question, blogger.
Not a true final boss, but I mentioned Diamond/Pearl was the first gen of Pokémon I ever played?
So, I was a COMPLETE newbie to Pokémon. And my starter was Piplup, my sweet lil penguin boi. Obviously I swept the first rock gym and was feeling good. Had leveled up, had more members on my team that were leveled up too.
Then I got to the next gym in Eterna City. The grass type gym.
And Gym Leader Gardenia.
Now, I definitely noticed myself struggling a little bit with the other trainers, more than before. So I trained up a bit. But baby me wasn’t thinking it would be too much harder, right?
Baby me was an idiot.
Gardenia and her Roserade just repeatedly demolished me and my team over and over again. I was still leaning too heavily on my starter, but even when I tried to level up the others it was ROUGH.
I’m sure now I could go and play it and would be like “baby me why was this so difficult for you??? What did you do wrong??? This isn’t that hard???” But back then it was just one devastating loss after another. When I finally beat her I’m pretty sure I saved the game like 10 times just to be sure it took. 💀

What video game do you most regret not finishing?
Feed your dashboard by answering my question, blogger.
Honestly? I don’t think I really have one. Because if I didn’t finish a game, I had a reason for it. I didn’t have the skill, the time, the patience, I got bored of it, other things distracted me, etc.
Life happens. All of the games that I took really seriously, I finished as best as I could. Does that necessarily mean completed them or 100% them? No. But I was happy.
I suppose one game that may fall under this is a hidden object game series. But it wasn’t my fault at all. I couldn’t finish it because the game devs never made the second game as far as I’m aware. I finished the first game, Dying for Daylight, and it ended on a kind of cliffhanger. The story was only half completed, you had only collected about half the things you needed, and the ultimate villain was still out there. But then the sequel just… never came out. Which really sucked, because it was a solid point and click hidden object game. I mean… obviously. I still remember it years later.
But that’s probably the closest I would say I’ve come to this scenario. And it wasn’t my fault.

What game would you erase from your memory just to experience it for the first time again?
Feed your dashboard by answering my question, blogger.
Oooh now THIS is a good question!
Damn. I kinda want to say Pokémon but I also know part of the reason it has stuck with me so long is because I played it and experienced it first WHEN I was younger and everything was more magical, ya know? So, if I played it for the first time now that I’m older… would it still be as fun? Would it still have the same appeal? Or is half the fun I obtain from the games from the nostalgia I experience while playing them?
I would generally say no, I think I would enjoy them even if I played them for the first time now. But I also almost don’t want to get RID of that nostalgia, because the nostalgia is, like, almost a PART of the playing experience.
So, with all that being said? Miitopia. I have 100% that game all the way through, so I now know the ending and all the surprises of the game. And I got the game when I was older, so there’s not really any nostalgia to factor in. It would be nice to play it again and be surprised by the stupid little gimmicks and the weird plot twists. 😂

Is this not the same thing as a comfort game? Like… am I wrong? Wouldn’t this just be a comfort game? Which I already answered.
I’m taking my welcome mat anyway though.

How many video games are in your backlog right now?
Feed your dashboard by answering my question, blogger.
Hmmm… good question. Uh—
*goes to check*
Welllllll…
I have 3 game apps that I have downloaded but not played on my iPad.
I believe (but didn’t actually check because I am lazy) there are 2 games on Steam that I haven’t tried out. (we don’t talk about all the hidden object games I once downloaded but never got to play on an old laptop of mine because the gaming platform on that laptop didn’t transfer over RIP those games 😭)
I am not digging out my Wii games to see how may of them have been played or not so God’s speed to them 🫡
I have at least tried all my Gameboy games.
There are 2 DS and 4 3DS games that I haven’t played.
Sooooo that brings my total up to around 11 games in my backlog from various platforms!

What is the scariest game you've ever played?
Feed your dashboard by answering my question, blogger.
I don’t really play scary games. Don’t like horror.
Unless you count some of the point and click hidden object games I used to play that were also mysteries. But they really weren’t scary. Creepy maybe. But not scary.
You know what’s really scary?
Gacha games. Gacha games and how they trick you into becoming a gambling addict because you want to spend money on gems to try to get your favorite character’s newest, pretty SSR card. Now THAT’S scary.
I’m looking at YOU Twisted Wonderland. 😑
Item: The Prologue Rarity: ✦ Uncommon
What video game has the best opening scene or level?
Feed your dashboard by answering my question, blogger.
I mentioned in the tags of one of my previous asks that I do have video game consoles other than a 3DS. I have a DS and I also have a Wii. I just rarely use the DS anymore unless I’m wanting to play one of my, like, three gameboy games and I basically never play the Wii anymore.
But I used to play it pretty frequently. Was not very good at it, mind you. But I enjoyed it. I just… was not great with the hand-eye coordination, which is what eventually lead me to abandon it I feel. I’m just better at games that don’t require you to move your remote around, let alone move two remotes around if need be.
That being said? My answer to this question is Epic Mickey. I never got very far in it at all, but I remember thinking the design of the game and the buildup to the actual gameplay was super cool.
