he can smell whether a dream is gonna be good or bad at the start, but he cant predict if a good dream will suddenly become a nightmare mid-meal
different dreams have different tastes and also different effects on him (sad dreams give him hiccups, dreams of fond memories are like comfort food, etc)
the person whose dream he ate will wake up feeling like theyve just had a nightmare, in which case he will comfort them & soothe them back to sleep, unless the dream Was a nightmare, in which case they will wake feeling well rested to see him in horrible discomfort
he can tell them what their dream was about when they wake up and if it was a nice dream he will
he Can eat real food but it doesnt do anything for him nutritionally & it doesnt really taste like anything to him so he doesnt enjoy it
he prefers to feed from people he knows (especially a partner, but sometimes a friend will give him a treat)
hes been doing this for centuries so he has all the best tricks for getting someone into a good nights sleep and he always returns the favor by cooking for them
he doesnt need to sleep himself but he can and does recreationally, especially after eating he will snuggle up beside his partner & fall asleep. he cannot dream though
