The Frizzy Place

After much time apart, the Sister found herself missing her Brother and came back to gloat about how much she had made only to find he had stopped at one world and created sentient life. The Brother's plan was to set up angels to help keep the universe stable and fix anything they found had been left half-done or falling apart so that he could seek her out and work at her side once more. The angels loved their creator and would often praise him. Jealousy had the Sister wanting adoration and worship too, so she set to creating life as well. Still impatient and uncaring of the long term result, the humans she made were very flawed and fragile, incomplete compared to the angels. She hated how ugly they were and wanted to just destroy them, but the Brother stopped her, claiming that just because they weren't what she wanted did not invalidate that they were alive. He loved even her imperfect creations and offered to help her uplift them. Sister took it as yet another show of superiority and lashed out. The gods fought, the Sister uncaring of the effect it would have on the world, and the Brother doing all he could to protect it. Even with his focus spread, he was winning because the angels came to his aid. They were the ones that began to call her the Root of All Evil. She was forced to concede and tried to flee, but the Brother could not risk her just coming back and trying this again. However, he loved his Sister too much despite her actions to want to destroy her. Exhausted and knowing he would need rest, he instead chose to seal her powers and leave her in a mortal body, forced to live and die as a human over and over in the hopes that she would learn empathy, love, and the value of doing right by one's creations.

Before he went to rest, the Brother saw how hatred for his Sister had become a shadow in the hearts of his angels, heard them speak in anger over Roo, and he wept for it. From those tears was born a golden angel full of love and even a portion of his divinity. It was her that he chose to gift the knowing of what human body had his Sister's soul. She was to keep watch over her and Speak of his eternal love for all living things in the hopes that it would heal the hatred.

The angels, knowing deep down that this would be their best chance for peace and harmony the way the Brother wished, agreed and allowed their immortality to be taken from them. After giving up their immortality, the average life-span for an angel came to be roughly two-hundred years, with some living for 20 to 30 years longer. The capacity for magic that angels innately carried diminished, their bodies no longer able to hold so much divine energy. This ended up resulting in each angel having a specific element or orientation to their magic, though some of the strongest could use one or two elements to a minor degree beyond their specialty.

Using the power from their sacrificed immortality, the Speaker then granted angels the ability to both fertilize their partners and produce eggs, with an emergency capability to reproduce on their own should something occur where a good partner could not be found and there was a threat to the long-term survival of the angel. This was not a sustainable method, but it would hold for three or four generations before the genetics and magics of the bloodline would begin to break down.

After a few centuries passed, the Speaker became delighted to find that angels and humans were beginning to build families together! Being created with such care by the Brother meant that the angels' bodies instinctively adapted to be able to create life with the humans as well! She hoped that perhaps with enough time, all would become as one, and when their beloved Father awoke he would find that all walked hand in hand to enrich the universe like he always wanted. Hybrids, the children born of the union of angels and humans, could only really be born from the human side of the equation. The process of tending to angel eggs meant that the fledgling that hatched would be a full blooded angel, their human genetics overpowered by the energies used to help them grow and hatch. The hybrids, however, tended to resemble their human parent the greatest for the first few decades of their lives. Their bodies would grow at the normal rate for humans, but sexual maturity was slowed slightly by their angelic parentage. Their angelic blood would not fully reveal itself until around thirty years of age. How it manifested would vary depending on the specialty magics of the angel that sired them, with only some developing wings.

Things continued fairly peacefully for nearly a thousand years.

Then the Speaker disappeared.

Knowing that Roo was somewhere among them, angels blamed the humans for the disappearance. Many humans were defensive about being blindly accused and tensions rose. Skirmishes began, increasingly destructive attacks from both sides until barely healed wounds tore open anew and a world-wide war broke loose. This war lasted so long that no being who had been born before it remained alive by the time there were too few people left to keep officially fighting. Histories were lost, technology and magical knowledge alike destroyed, even routes of travel erased, leaving only scattered cultures to rebuild.

Angels and humans alike divided themselves completely, no longer truly knowing why they resented and feared each other enough to have been at war, only understanding that they did. Angels hid deep in the wilds in flocks, the bloodlines that had carried instinctive combat capabilities all but wiped out, leaving only rare recessive genes within those whose spirits were oriented on creation and healing.

Humans were able to more quickly reestablish their cities and expand, with a new religion spreading of their inherent right to the world because they were favored by the Creator.
