One reason I love Rose Tyler is she had this raw, "illogical" compassion. No one had to tell her to do the right thing or throw herself in front of someone else to protect them; she just DID IT. Instinctively. Because it was the thing to do. She was a normal girl, raised by a normal mom who did her best, and when the pedal hit the metal, she always did the right thing. Bravery was a habit. She was born to slay dragons.
my way by Olivia Rodrigo came on and immediately I heard that sound and went “that would 100% be playing in the opening of Rose if it came out today.” The sci fi sounding heavy synth just feels so 2005 British show. I love it so much
olivia rodrigo i love you so much oh my god also what the fuck

olivia rodrigo is so based for this honestly. she just condemned the dept of homeland security and the white house instagram accounts for using her song 'all-american bitch'. this comes after she famously removed her song 'deja vu' from tiktok last year because trump's team used it in a campaign post.
fully obsessed w eva stratt fully obsessed w woman who will commit every crime possible mostly to like. save humanity but partially for love of the game. she pirated literally everything and got away with it. she caused irreparable damage to multiple ecosystems. she broke people out of prison, she forced people into labor, she forced a guy to go die in space. but goddamnit she got it done
You know, I encourage everyone who read Project Hail Mary to listen to the audiobook. I’ve seen a lot of posts about Stratt specifically and her characterization in the book, and while she is a lot more intense in the book (impressive), I think if you actually can hear her lines in a human voice with tone and inflection it makes a world of difference to how her character is perceived.
I need everyone to understand that Eva Stratt was not evil. She made questionable/unethical decisions because there wasn’t time to do things the “right” way. The world was ending, and she was in charge of saving it, so she did what she had to do.
Grace being completely uninterested, confused (and kinda uncomfortable) as DuBois tells him that he’s having sex with Shapiro has got to be the most relatable experience for me as an Ace person, and honestly I completely get why he’s so commonly headcanoned as AroAce now.

here's some weird project hail mary book stuff the movie skipped because it Didn't Want To Touch That:
they nuked antarctica ryland gets called a leaky space blob eridians culturally hate seeing others eat. viscerally. theres no edible food for ryland on erid so he has to eat these (synthesized!!) things he calls me-burgers. please guess what me-burgers might just be made out of. they paved over the sahara. to breed astrophage. grace forgot his name for the whole first... multiple chapters, and called himself: - bite me - Emperor Comatose (kneel before him) - The great philosopher pendulus stratt pirated everything ever (yes. Everything Ever) for the hail mary to have on board the computer and the un tried to sue her about it. they failed there's a panspermia subplot
i really love that project hail mary made it so clear how much grace loves earth. describing it to rocky, showing him bits of the culture and nature. the water and the cities. the birds. he sincerely and deeply loves earth.
you don't even have a dog. he had a whole planet. he loved being alive on earth and they took that from him.
when i read this bit i knew I’d love this book ngl
One moment I liked was that Carl and Grace's time having fun shopping, adding so much duct tape to their cart, playing bowling with stacks of aluminium foil, and wearing safety glasses at the checkout doesn't have the typical comedy beat of "acting suddenly embarrassed once someone asks what they're doing." Because this film is about the importance of having fun and building friendships as an essential component of human existence, and bonding with strangers is one of the purest experiences we can have. To undermine it with the typical punchline of "this kinda stuff is cringe" would undermine the thematic center of the narrative itself, and I'm glad the film is mature enough to realize that.
Edit: I see the power of whimsy and the necessity of earnest expression as an essential component of the human experience resonates with a lot of people on here, doesn't it?
The effort put into Rocky’s voice astounds me. When Grace lets it slip that he’s not going to go home, Rocky is so upset he forgets to clarify “why didn’t you tell me” is a question, which is abundantly familiar for people speaking a second language when emotions run high.
When the translator is working, you can still hear the musical tones of his natural voice in the background (a detail a lot of franchises have missed, I’ve noticed.) In the scene where Grace is pinned to the control panel and the translator doesn’t work anymore, you can clearly hear Rocky saying his name in a higher octave, panicked.
This movie ruined my life I want to own it on DVD immediately

"the most unrealistic thing about project hail mary is that a woman is in charge" WRONG look up the glass cliff. women are much more likely to be promoted to positions of power when things are going poorly and people need a woman to blame. she refers to herself as the "world's whipping boy." the person put in the position to have to commit ecological and humanitarian crimes of that scale in order to save the earth would only ever be a woman.
