If Cuba collapses, it will never be because of socialism or communism.
Cuba has been bombarded by sanctions since its revolution in '59, which have been condemned by human rights critics as genocidal and condemned and voted against by every country in the UN except the US and Israel for decades. The US has done more or less the same with almost any country that tries to break free from its control, let alone a country that has had a communist revolution.
Before the revolution, US corporations controlled Cuba, specifically the majority of agriculture, utilities, railways, banking, and tourism; they had fingers in all the pies. And Cuba kicked them out by way of a communist revolution during the Cold War, a time when the Western world's main theme was 'Communism: Bad. Capitalism/Freedom: Good.'
It was a major humiliation and still is, as Cuba has managed not only to survive sanctions that were supposed to make it collapse a long time ago but has dramatically bettered living conditions they suffered under prior to their revolution and even surpasses the US in ways, including their healthcare system, which is internationally touted as one of the best in the world.
Cuba is a testament to communism and socialism—the transition out of capitalism—working, for having endured what they have. They are a testament to humanity—namely, its resilience, its innate altruism, and its spirit of community in helping those in need, not just in their own but throughout the world.
They are humanity unencumbered by the toxic ideals of capitalism, under which individuality is emphasized over community and stepping over one another is normalized. They are a people we should all aspire to be, and we must do everything to condemn the ongoing genocidal sanctions against them.
