seems like tumblr finally realized the bad optics of not having the trans colors represented anywhere in their little performative pride like animation.

Something I noticed about those post where they say “it’s okay to make mistakes when you are young you couldn’t have known give urself some leniency” some people respond (I’m paraphrasing here) “ what you were a sick and twisted individual” and like that’s not the point of the post. It completely goes over their head and they want to start some fight or to prove that people don’t deserve that kindness towards themselves. Those people also miss one special detail; who the audience is. Knowing who the audience allows u to understand the point of literally any post or statement someone says. In this instant the audience is a person who won’t let go of their past mistakes so much so that they believe they can’t do good. Those self help posts aren’t trying to make people not take responsibility but to allow growth. Also just in general the rule of audience is incredibly important to understand any piece of media; wether that be a book, a movie or a tv show. Take Romeo and Juliet for instance. The audience were people from the Elizabethan era who valued obedient children, strong men and submissive women which is reflected in the play. They would* have seen Rome and Juliets secrecy and rebellion as something terrifyingly new and as well as thinking their death could have been avoided had their parents not given them so much choice and freedom. However for a more contemporary audience like us we see that as the natural way of teenagers and had they given Romeo and Juliet more freedom they wouldn’t have died. There is no wrong interpretation but Shakespeare would have expected the former as that was his audience
