Gilderoy David Lockhart
full name: Gilderoy David Lockhart age & birthday: 21, August 10th former house: ravenclaw blood status: halfblood
gender & pronouns: cismale, he/his sexuality: panromantic asexual
occupation: journalist and author
biography:
Looking at his middle name can aptly sum up Gilderoy’s relationship with his family. David, ‘loved one’, king of a nation. He grew up adored and adoring, surrounded by a small family that cared deeply for each other. As the only child, he has grown up pampered and with little restrictions. While he never took advantage of the lax parenting style, it means he doesn’t often understand other students when they complain about their own families. His own family has always been nothing but wonderful, and he can hardly imagine any other way to have a family. Gilderoy loves his parents and his cousins very much but doesn’t talk about them in public. He believes in the importance of keeping his private life private.
A typical Leo, nothing amuses and pleases him more than the fact that he has his own fan club. He’s acutely aware of his own good looks, and while he’s not above using them occasionally to help twist things in his favor, he’s never purposefully cruel. At home in the center of attention, he genuinely enjoys people. It keeps his mind active and his hands in constant motion. As much as he loves the public eye, he admits that it can get lonely. The few people he counts as true friends he pays careful attention to, glad to have them by his side. Though he never actively broadcasts the fact, Gilderoy would never refuse someone help. The classic Ravenclaw thirst for knowledge extends to sharing it with others, as long as someone’s willing to approach him for actual help.
For all he loves attention, Gilderoy has never understood his classmates desire for sex. While everyone around him seems caught up in the gossip of who’s getting some and who’s not, Gilderoy has never shown any sort of sexual interest in anyone. In his mind, there are so many other ways to love someone that sex hardly seems like the crux of the situation. He’d never deny someone his affections, but he’s never felt the need to take it further.
There’s a fine distinction between Gilderoy and David: the boy he shows to the world and the boy that loves his family. He has lived all of his life at Hogwarts separating the two with a fine-toothed comb, weeding out the most precious, intimate and vulnerable parts of himself to hide them from his classmates. When people ask about his family, he deflects. If plans for school holidays come up, he dithers and redirects. The way Gilderoy tells it, he merely appeared out of nowhere as a gift to the world. The way David tells it, his family is a precious thing not to be paraded about as ammo for use against him.
