Hello, I love the voices you do for the characters in The Freak Circus and I would like to ask you a few questions about your work (you can ignore them if you want, sorry if the text is weird, I'm using a translator to write this)
1. Which character do you enjoy voicing the most and why do you enjoy voicing them the most?
2. Which character do you find the most difficult to voice and why?
3. Considering that each character has a different personality, and the voices you’ve given them are based on how you interpret their personalities, from your perspective, which character do you think is the most complex in terms of personality and was the hardest to establish a voice for?
4. Of all the circus characters, which is your favorite and why?
5. What do you think of the character Carol? Some people say she resembles Columbina, or do you think she was just a character used to show the player what the circus does?
Thank you for giving voice to the characters, you can't imagine how surprised I was when I heard them speak, thank you for taking the time to do it and the time to read this.
Hello friendo! :D Thank you for the ask, I really do love being able to ramble about my thoughts on these characters and how I voice them— especially since I’ve gotten more purposeful in the last few months as I’ve grown in experience and skill for voice acting and audio/video editing!
1. Jester or Doctor are tied for the ones I love voicing most! Doctor is definitely my comfort character (so there’s probably a bias there from that alone) but I also enjoy perfecting and exploring his accent— it’s become quite intimate to his character for me, and I want to continue improving and doing my best! <XD
Jester, on the other hand, is a complex character and I enjoy voicing him for many reasons. On one hand, I feel a lot of kinship with him in terms of gender presentation and whatnot? He is confident and firm, expresses himself with such poise and elegance all while being so… Gender about it? If that makes sense? I personally identify as a male (he/they pronouns) but I’ve grown a new love and respect for aspects of my femininity that I never got to appreciate when I was younger. There’s just something fun about voicing a character with that kind of self-confidence and authority— it’s like a respectful power trip when I voice him, yanno? I want to be that confident and unashamed of who I am as a person! :D
I’m also incredibly gay for Jester and his Dom vibes
2. Pierrot or Ticket Taker! Pierrot can be difficult because I’ve accidentally placed his voice in an awkward spot in my lower register (he’s on the lower-end but not the LOWEST I can go). So if i voice him too low he’ll quickly sound really ‘off’, but too high and he starts to sound more like Harlequin or Jester. It can also sometimes be hard to get his raspiness sounding right, and it’s something I’m constantly working on in the different ways I can manipulate the tone and texture of my voice!
Ticket Taker is difficult less because of the voice itself and more because he’s gotten so little content in general, so he’s the least experienced voice I’ve tried exploring (and for some reason his accent is way more difficult to sound ‘right’?? It’s supposed to be British, why is that such a challenge for me? /silly)
HOPEFULLY AS TIME GOES ON TICKET TAKER WILL GET MORE VOICED CONTENT AND HE CAN STOP HAUNTING ME
3. Ticket Taker (for mostly the reasons outlined above LOL) and probably… Doctor? Since I’m one person voicing multiple characters, it’s important that each character is distinct in SOME way in the projects I do. Before me and Neko joked (and later made it a Thing) that Doctor had a Russian accent he was incredibly hard to get a voice for that didn’t drift into Pierrot’s voice— the most concrete details I was working with was that Doctor speaks very monotone and is very direct and straightforward.
For example, Harlequin is voiced with a huge grin on my face so you can hear him constantly speaking through a ‘smile’, while Doctor is the opposite: no expression whatsoever! The inclusion of the accent helped differentiate and develop him a bit more for me, so I’m grateful for that lskjdfalsdfds
5. Me with my Doctor phone background, Doctor lock screen, massive list of Doctor-related ficlet/fic ideas, Doctor music playlist: I have no idea what you’re talking about I love them all equally /SILLY
Thank you again for your kind message and delightful questions! I’m constantly learning from this fandom in terms of voice acting and all the ways I can improve and further develop the voices I give these characters. It’s helped me learn so much about myself and it’s a media I intend to explore more in the future!
I know my voice may not be everyone’s preference, but I am excited for all the things I might make and do in the future! :D
