Maybe it's just me who's way too emotional over this, but here's today's mental breakdown:
During reading HoH and BoO Jason's chapters were close to me.
He was always said to be 'boring' and 'a blank character', but I feel like people who said this don't understand his character.
Jason's guilt for choosing Camp Half-Blood's side during the civil war was totally something that broke me. He said that thinking about his 'memories' of Camp Jupiter was rather like watching a movie from someone's point of view. Not knowing who you were because your past life feels like a movie you watched in your head, and you felt more alive in the past 8 months than in the past 15 years. He felt more connected to a camp where he spent some months rather he felt connected to his own 'home' where he lived for years. He had to realize that what he felt towards Camp Jupiter wasn't the feeling of home anymore. This for Jason 'the loyal to the core and always ready to defend his home' Grace was a guilt trap. He was trained since he was two years old, and he felt like the only place he has ever lived or spent the most time at was farther from him then a literal summer camp he spent 8 months at. He believed he was a replaceable person, when he came to New Rome with Percy as a Praetor. He tried to prove he is a leader and whenever he failed, he felt like he wasn't good enough for the others, he wasn't good enough to fight the giants and Gaea. He always had to be ready to protect his friends, because what else is a leader for? His character has always been great and complex, you just ignore him.
His character was never boring, or poorly written, nor blank. People just failed to understand a character who wasn't a chaotic mess. I am 99% sure people don't like him because he was supposed to be the equal of Percy. I 99% believe this is the reason he gets so many hate. I understand if you like Percy more, because he was 'funny' and more 'direct', but just ignoring Jason and his back story and character as he is and labeling him a shit character won't make Percy better. And even if you don't like him, there's no reason for you to hate him. He will never be Percy and Percy won't be him.
