Let this serve as an example that very rarely is there a “correct” way to make music. Traditional fingerings not working for you? Fuck em. Make your own. As long as you’re having fun and producing good sounds, you’re doing it “right”. (YMMV with violins, bagpipes and most wind instruments)

according to this article this style of guitar playing is from botswana and is always done with 4 strings so strictly speaking its innaccurate to call the top e string ‘missing’, and i would also guess that it is correctly tuned for the style. this is also arguably a traditional fingering style, just not one familiar to most people outside of botswana.
