Welcome to the Family, Kid: Chapter Eight
Last in this lil arc
Warning: mentions of child neglect, bullying
Chapter Eight: Omega's First Day
Welcome to the Family, Kid: Chapter Seven
Warnings: implied intent to run away, bad mental health, bullying, fighting
Chapter Seven: School Part 2
As much as I hate to think about it, Bruce Wayne is not immortal. He's gonna die (permanently) eventually. But, aside from the grief of all that, it raises an interesting question: Who gets what in their inheritance?
Strap in cuz this is gonna be LONG
So, according to some light googling I did a lil while back, having a will is incredibly important, especially if you don't have kids and want your assets distributed in specific ways. Now, Bruce has 1. a ridiculous amount of money and 2. an incredibly dangerous job. If he somehow didn't have a will by the time he got Dick--which is incredibly unlikely given the aforementioned money and job--he sure as hell made one right after the Graysons fell and he took Dick in.
For a while I imagine Dick being the sole heir of the Wayne Fortune, seeing as there just wasn't anyone else to give it to. Bruce was his kid anyway, even if they didn't have that traditional father/son relationship and before he was adopted. Alfred would probably have gotten some money and valuables if Bruce died first and been the heir before Dick, Batman Begins-style, but I can see the man insisting he doesn't need or want any of it once Dick is in the picture
After Jason comes in, as Bruce's actual legal child rather than ward, I think Bruce has to fight a lil to keep Dick in the will (that might not be how it works but generally I think being legally adopted means more than being a ward, while legal vs blood relation doesn't matter as much) He loves Dick, that's his first kid, his goal always has been and always will be to look out for him, even when they tussle. Things get split, equally, between Dick and Jason. Maybe Jason gets the Manor but everything else goes between his two boys (everything goes back to Dick after Jason dies)
With Tim in the picture I see things changing a little. He's already the heir to a large family fortune. Of course he gets part of the Wayne money, but personally I'm not sure how Bruce would handle it. Equally or equitably? (Dick inheriting money from Alfred raises the same question) Tim would probably still remain CEO of Wayne Industries and have a good amount of shares in the company.
Cass and Damian, along with Steph and Duke (besides the fact that they're not technically Bruce's kids) would also get rather large trust funds, in fact everyone does and their split, again, either equally or equitably. He probably leaves some money to Babs, too, and I can see Bruce setting up another fund to help with expenses in case Damian is under eighteen when he dies.
As for assets, estate, and possessions...
I already mentioned Tim getting the company or at least part of it, so there's that. Dick being the oldest probably gets a good amount of WE stocks and the Manor (unless someone else wants it more? idk he's the default I think) and therefore the cave, as well as all the responsibility of leading the Batfam, even if he doesn't take up the cowl. The mantle goes to Cass if she decides to take it, and I can see her digging through old family belongings and keeping some of Martha's clothes for herself, rather than let them sit in storage in the attic. Jason gets the library, Beauty and the Beast-style. Babs keeps the Clocktower, maybe gets a portrait or two from when she and Dick were younger. Everybody keeps their rooms, their costumes, their gear, but some individual possessions from Bruce get claimed or left to them.
For Damian, it's his grandparents' wedding bands. A promise made between two people to better each other's lives. And the result of that promise, who vowed to protect people, to help them. The rings are a reminder of that.
Duke gets old home movies and Bruce's collection of the Grey Ghost. He likes to watch them on bad days or dissect what worked in that older form of storytelling and what didn't. He improves upon it and tells his own stories from around the Manor with a tape recorder he found, as if to update Bruce on his kids' lives without him.
Steph gets the keys to a very nice car, one she'd been joking with Bruce that she'd one day steal once he was gone. He left it to her specifically, asking her to take a joyride for him. She only drives it when she's feeling down or depressed, as a reminder that she had to have done something right, since she did Bruce proud. She drives to the beach and stares out at the water as if to say 'thank you' to Bruce for all he's done for her.
Cass gets a bunch of old clothes and family photos. She didn't have much to choose from growing up, and of course her parents didn't take pictures, so she enjoys the concept of photography. Albums and albums of every Wayne since the camera was invented, ranging from black-and-white to color. Her favorites are of her family. There's two albums of just to past few years, filled to the brim of only candid shots. She loves these the most.
Tim gets Bruce's first computer. He scoffs at first, the size of the so-called laptop was ridiculous, the technology almost ancient, but when he finally cracks it open on a rare break from a tough case, he finds files downloaded from a thumb drive, containing pictures of Tim and his parents, Bruce with Martha and Thomas, the Flying Graysons, ect. And a note to remind the boy that family is always there for you, even if people go away, even if things change, and Tim starts taking a few more breaks a bit more often.
I think Jason would get old journals. Thomas, Martha, and Bruce all kept journals and he'd get them (though Bruce did gently encourage sharing his personal diaries with the rest of the family, especially those he had fights with) but also older journals. Jason would get to deep dive into Cathy's live from the 1800s and the scandals of 1920s Wayne kids, ect. It was such an interesting storybook to follow but with his own family, even if it's not his bloodline. This is still his history, to however extent.
And Dick? Letters. Every single letter Bruce ever wrote when they were in a fight, when they were mad at each other. After every argument, Bruce sat down and explained via pen and paper why he was angry, scared, or disappointed to Dick. Just in case he never got to say it. And Dick read every single one. Some were longer than others, ranging from 'that chandelier was expensive' to 'you could have gotten hurt and I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I'd lost you.' Some fights Dick even forgot about. Things he'd thought were stupid, times he wished he'd never met Bruce, all faded away into oblivion as he read his dad's words. There were tears, many tears, as well as laughs, smiles, and just so much grief. At how much Bruce cared. At how long they were angry. At all the time they spent arguing. The sheer amount of letters was just almost too much for him to bear, until he got to the last one, addressed to "My Robin" in Bruce's fancy, curvy handwriting that he only used for when it seriously mattered. It was short, didn't have much in it, but essentially just said "I'm sorry for everything I did to upset you. I'm sorry for all the time we lost. I don't regret taking you in. I don't regret doing everything in my power to keep you safe, because I love you so much. My Nightwing. My Robin, my first Robin. My little bird, now all grown up. I love you so much, son." Dick cries even more.
He's also left with a watch that has gotten passed down to the eldest child of each generation from Bruce's grandfather. It's Dick turn, and he notices it as the watch Bruce wore the night they first met. He wears it whenever he feels lonely or misses his dad.
I love deaged situations, especially in combination with Young Justice, and the Justice League just. Has to deal with it. Toddlers everywhere, absolute chaos, deal with your kids.
Wally is giving his Uncle Barry a run for his money during playtime, because not only does the kid have superspeed still he also has endless energy.
Artemis is surprisingly loud for a child with such a traumatic background, but she draws such cute crayon pictures for Green Arrow it just melts his heart, and demands that he read to her before naptime.
Aquaman uses it as parenting prep and listens very closely to Kaldur's games, plays along real well too. He amuses the kid with a water show when he gets overtired and upset and needs to calm down.
Martian Manhunter also plays with little M'gann and tells stories to her. He sits with her when she wants to watch cartoons or other Earth shows.
Black Canary sings to keep a young Connor at ease. She's the only one he stays calm around.
While the others are all around toddler/little kid age, Robin is much younger and that gets reflected in his situation. If the others are four, Robin's one. He's got far less energy than usual and is actually a fairly quiet and sleepy child. He clings onto Batman and will bawl and scream if put down or handed off to someone else, even for a moment. Batman just grunts and takes him back, but secretly he loves it. Having his baby be an actual baby (and being the sole receiver of his love and affection) is doing things to his heart and if he's a little more withdrawn after they get turned back nobody mentions it.

*Spoilers for episode 208 of Wayne Family Adventures for those of us who don't have coins :3*
Bruce battling Steph's dad in wfa feels like it's gonna be like dealing with the parent of your kid's best friend, when you hate the parent and their parenting style but you love that kid like your own lol
I was talking to my mom about DC and told her about Batman: Wayne Family Adventures and she looked at me horrified saying that it doesn't sound fun and when I asked her why she said "It sounds like 'Oh, Wayne Family Adventures, let's go to the opera'" I'm dying XD
the idea of "dark and broody Batman always works alone" amuses me endlessly because like?? no he doesnt??? like even before he got Dick Bruce's first appearance was in May of 1939 and Dick's was April of 1940. Almost but not quite a year later and since then, Batman has never worked alone in 86 out of his 87 years of existence (never being a generalization don't @ me about specific comic runs and whatnot)
honestly don't know where that concept came from just knowing a lil about their origins way back when makes it so funny to me
Fic prompt:
The batfamily all have emergency duffle bags for when crap hits the fan. Maybe they're personalized for comfort, maybe they're untouched, but they all have one. The clothes and contents in these bags rarely change. So seeing someone show up on your doorstep in that particular outfit means that something is wrong. And it's really freaking scary.
Friendly reminder that in Batman (1966) Bruce and Dick thought that Dick would be Robin forever because at the time Dick would be Robin forever

Welcome to the Family, Kid: Chapter Six
Hey so this is the start of another three-part arc, but after that it gets into fluffy (and not-so-fluffy) one-shots. This one is kinda the latter, sorry!
Warnings: mentions of bullying, implied mental health struggles, intent to run away
Chapter Six: School Part 1
Welcome to the Family, Kid: Chapter Five
SO SO SORRY I HAVEN'T UPDATED IN *checks posts* *grimaces* OVER TWO MONTHS OMG!!! So life got a lil hectic with personal stuff and I wasn't editing chapters but I'm gonna draft them all up now so I can get back to posting regularly! I'll try to post two chaps at a time for the next couple weeks to make up for it.
This chapter is the last one in this lil arc, pretty much just cute wholesome fluff
Warnings: none
Chapter Five: Chaos
Soooo I did a thing and made an Evil!Babs AU
I like to think about when, in The Martian, space travel has evolved enough for people to go back and collect everything that was left behind during the Ares III mission and actually see all of the recordings Mark made, his findings, and just everything from that time period.
And I like to think that Beck and Johanssen's kid is on that mission

having art block and writers block simultaneously is the worst thing because I have so many different creative projects I could be doing and I want to be doing but I just can't and now I'm super bored like WHY
all of my problems have been fixed by "Heathens" thank you twenty one pilots
Okay I get why ppl don't recognize Clark as Superman because in My Adventures with Superman, Superman is pretty.
Like, Clark's not that bad looking, but with the animation style and all that, Superman is genuinely pretty and I love that for him and it's also kinda hard to believe that they're the same person. Especially like before Lois knows, he hides it pretty well, well enough to believe that they're two different people.
