A beginning - avengersxreader
In a matter of seconds it was all gone and it was just you in an ‘alien’ room. Alone and shaking with fear along with the rapid beating of your heart you had your hands pull you up into a seated position. Your eyes adjusted to the bright LED lights when just before, you were seeing your world crumble in flames. Confused you began looking around frantically first to your right where you saw tables filled with metal devices and to your left blank screens and a white board containing scribbles you only hoped you could interpret. One common theme was that this was all just…alien. Foreign, not normal. You could’ve sworn you’ve seen this scene take place in a UFO movie after someone had been abducted but before you let your mind race to that idea you spotted glass windows. Windows surveying a city with a beautiful skyline, it’s lights reflecting onto the lake in the night sky. You’re body adjusted to change poorly as shock began to overtake you. Your gaze fell to the white tile floor you sat on. You remembered.
Screams filled your neighborhood as you walked through a now chaotic scene of people you knew running to find safety. Everything was in slow motionl you’re brain depicting every detail. Every scar and wound on people’s bodies. Ashes fell from the sky and you saw houses you’ve visited once on fire. This was an apocalyptic scene if you’d ever imagined one and it came without warning. You surveyed the crowd for anything, anyone, your family or friends but saw no one, just sadness and grief on unfamiliar faces. They pushed past you. Barely walking through the broken road you thought to yourself, “How?” Staring down at your sneakers, they were blood soaked and your jeans black from the ash. Your palms were scratched up from earlier helping a family get their child from underneath the gravel, “but where are my parents?” Dead. A bright light shocked your body suddenly. And-
“Hey!”
You’re head shot up to the voice, searching to where it came from. You turned completely around to where you saw some stairs behind a transparent screen door and a man standing in between you and a clearly rattled lady behind him. He seemed more concerned than afraid but you were terrified and he could read it off your face. You tried to speak but you subconsciously came to the conclusion that you couldn’t even think of anything. The dark haired man looked over your figure a clear contrast to his otherwise very sanitized, white laboratory. A once over of his lab and he spotted an odd red hue come off a metal machinery on the far left corner. It was a half circular device that he once tinkered with as a hobby. It’s purpose was to create a gateway; for what, he didn’t know. It never worked anyways so he let it collect dust by itself in the dark; but tonight a sinister feeling came over that machine. A feeling he knew meant that his project worked in an unfortunate way. His eyes widened at the same time his mouth was left agape. His hand raised over to the lady behind him.
“Pepper. Get Banner on the phone. Tell him we have a code…code open portal.” His hand slowly came down as ‘Pepper’ ran up the stairs in her bare feet. His eyes locked with the girl on the floor, still in disbelief. A few seconds later you’re eyes seemed to skim over his features with hyper focus, as if you knew him. The hair, the name of the girl, the glowing thing in this chest…You definitely knew him.
“You’re not real?” Was the only thing your mind mustered up to saying out loud. This had to be a dream, so did the apocalypse. It ALL had to be a dream.
“I’m guessing you’re not supposed to be here, huh?” He said, his tongue pressing against his cheek and he thought about what to say next. “What do you mean I’m not real? Where are you from?”
You looked around the lab in realization that you were talking to someone you thought only came from movies and stories. “Chicago!” You blustered out.
“I’m from Chicago and you’re-” You couldn’t bring yourself to say his name without stopping yourself. Maybe you were going through a trip of some sort. But you tried anyways, “Tony Stark? Avengers? Hulk? Uhh. Marvel.” You muttered to yourself as Tony waved his hand trying to stop you.
“Am I in your universe? Do you know me there?”
You laughed almost letting all the air in your lungs out, “You’re a comic book character!”
“Hm.” Was all he said crossing his arms at you. “Well, welcome.” His hands fell to his sides, as if he wasn’t taking this whole situation seriously!
“What? What the f-”
“Were gonna figure out how to get you back, don’t you worry. I got a friend, Banner, he’s got a green thing but real smart guy. He’ll be here in a jiff and we can get you back to your…” He looked at you clothes all torn and dirt covered. “Farm.”
You just stared at him, incredulous. He began walking over to the machine cautiously. His finger pointed up as a matter of factually, “We might need some yellow tape around this. Don’t want any of your cows coming through, right? “
You couldn’t believe that a genius could be so…stupid. You remembered what you just witnessed minutes before. The fire, the smoke, the bodies scattered.
“There’s nothing left.” Your voice cracked as the reality of these words hit every nerve of your body. Tony stepped back from the machine and looked over at you again.
“Nothing left?”
Before you could even begin to explain, you’re heart dropped thinking of you’re family, you’re partner and everything left behind in your universe. In flames. Why was it that you survived?
“O-oh god.” You’re chest grew heavy and your breathes rapidly increased. Tears began raining down your cheeks as your shaking hands gripped onto your arms for support.
Tony knowing himself what a panic attack looks like, sprinted over to her stopping before her and stooping to her level as hollow breathes filled the emptiness of space between them. He reached his hand over to her shoulder.
“Relax. Breathe in and out. You’re gonna be okay.” He began coaching her. “Look at me. Hey! Look.”
You’re eyes glazed her his face. It really was Tony Stark. It was the same face you’d see on the screen many times at home. He was real and in front of you.
Slowly but surely you caught a steady pace and quieted down after a few minutes. Over his shoulder you saw Pepper, obviously still scared but sure that you needed their help. Tony held his hand steady on you’re shoulder reassuringly. “Were gonna figure this out.”
I know where I’m taking this story! Let me know if you like it, want more or anything. It’s two in the morning so Goodnight! <3
