yo being black and depressed is hard as fuck. being black with anxiety is hard as fuck. being black with a chronic illness or disability is hard a fuck. everybody expects you to be āstrongā at all times and no one sees black people as complex or nuanced enough to be capable of suffering. no one ever thinks we could possibly need help. and if youāre a black woman, the moment you stop thinking about others and try to tend to yourself youāre a selfish lazy ungrateful bitch.
support black people, esp women, who need help. donāt just call us strong or tell us weāll get through it, help us. protect us. uplift us. allow us to be beings capable of suffering. give us the same space youād give white women to express our pain and be there for us like you would for anyone else.Ā
donāt just like this, reblog it!
Help each other be safe out there
THIS TURNED OUT SO MUCH BETTER THAN EXPECTED
you missed the best bit
if someone close to you is disabled, you have to take that into account when you go places with them. you have to think about accessibility, fatigue, pain, flare ups, etc because its exhausting and hurtful when people who say they love you dont bother putting the effort in to make sure you ACTUALLY have a good time.
šŖabled people are required to reblog thisšŖ
some things for ableds to consider, as written by an autistic mentally ill disabled mobility aid user
Does this place have ramps? Does it have doors wide enough for a wheelchair? Would we have to walk up stairs at any point? Are there elevators? How easy is it to use the elevators? Are they freely accesible, or do you have to get an employee help you?
Is it easy to move around with a mobility aid? Is the ground uneven? Are the spaces you are in small without enough room to properly move with a wheelchair/walker/etc? Are there any steep hills?
Is there extensive walking required? Are there places to stop and rest? Would water and food be readily accessible? Are there bathrooms available? Are those bathrooms accesible for mobility aids? How would stopping and resting affect the experience?
Are there loud noises? Flashing lights? Will it be crowded? Are there places to escape the sensory experience? Is it easy to get out of the sensory experience? What sensory experiences is your disabled loved one okay with, and what hurts them?
Will the people running the event/the staff be helpful? Will they be ready to help make the experience more accessible? Are they going to accuse your disabled loved one of faking it, or tell them they cant bring their service dog/mobility aid with them? Are you prepared to defend them?
Are you prepared to have to go home early? Are you prepared to possibly miss parts of the experience? Are you ready to have alternative plans (like hanging out at home)? Are you prepared for having to cancel?
Consider the days leading up to the event. Maybe you can go do a lot of activities in the days/weeks leading up to something and still be able to go- but could your disabled loved one? Is the scheduling leaving room for them to destress/regain energy after doing something or are they going to have to choose between events? Are you ready to reschedule if they need time to destress/regain energy?
How much time are you spending? How many things are you going to do? How much energy to all those things require? How many steps? Are there breaks in between events?
Are you prepared for an emergency? What kind of emergency could they experience? Are you educated on how to help them if they pass out/have a seizure/have a panic attack/have an allergic reaction? Do you know what to do, who to call, what they need?
Are you going to try and push your friend to stay because you dont wanna leave? Are you going to get angry at them for "ruining the experience" by showing symptoms or needing to take a break? Are you actually ready to leave if they need to, or are you just relying on them being 100% healthy and okay? Do you actually care if they have a fun, accessible experience, even at the expense of your ideal experience?
Its important to communicate with the disabled people in your life about what is accessible to them. Some people may have no sensory issues with bright lights or crowds, or maybe they enjoy them in certain situations, and some might absolutely hate them. Sometimes they might be really excited for something, but end up having a flare up and not being able to go with you. Some of us might need to bring a lot of stuff with us- if I'm going out somewhere, especially if it's hot, I really need to make sure I have enough food (esp salt) and water, or I could pass out. Someone might need an EpiPen or medication with them. There can be a lot of planning that goes in to having fun while disabled.
Remember, disabled people have to think about these things every day. Will it be accessible? Will people refuse to help me? Will I pass out, have a seizure, have a panic attack in public? Does this food have anything in it that could set off my allergies/a flare up? We have so much to consider in just going shopping. It makes things so. much. easier when our abled friends and family takes these things into account!
Disabled people feel free to add anything else you want abled people to take into consideration. Abled people just fucking listen to us and ACTUALLY apply these things to your life.

The ghosts and monsters and shit are still going to be rising from the underworld for their one night a year of freedom, just now they will be socially distancing.
Modern Sherlock Holmes but heās a 27 year old, drinks energy drinks only, is astonishing polite and has no idea how the solar system works because it was never relevant to a case but can name every every person involved in making Super Mario Bros because he did need that for a case once.
Watson is continuously appalled about his eating habits and makes vague posts on Twitter that ends in threads like
Watson: āMy roommate noticed only today that he can label his email inboxs but took apart his entire bloody laptop two weeks ago.ā
Person: āThis reminds me of the post about the roommate who couldnāt turn on the coffee machine but remembers like 500 numbers of piā
Watson: āIāll be delighted to inform you that this is the very same roommate.ā
working full time is terrible why do we just accept that having 8 days off a month is normal and okay........ being alive could be cool but we waste it at our JOBS.... sorry iām just heated about capitalism again iāll be fine
8 days....never thought about it like that š
This seems really whiny to me. Like, I agree with you, work sucks, but our ancestors didnāt get to browse tumblr at their desks or have the option to gleefully spend their ENTIRE WEEKENDS horizontal on the couch stuffing their faces/watching tv/playing video games/wacking off.Ā They didnāt have weekends. They just slaved away as fucking peasants from dawn to dusk until they died in childbirth or got the consumption.
I am perfectly happy working 8 hrs a day because I donāt have to:
grow my own food
find my own clean water
heat my house
shit in the woods
Hi, I study social and cultural anthropology. Humans working 40+ hours a week is 100% an industrial revolution thing and was not normal in the early stages of our existence. In fact, hunter and gatherer societies that still exist to this day spend about 15-20 hours a week TOPS working. The rest is dedicated to sitting around and telling stories and jokes, dancing, singing, eating, sleeping, fucking and so forth. Read a damn book.
Medieval peasants lived grueling, terrible lives. But their vacation days beat out the policies now common even in progressive societies.
š¤š¬š”
When the medieval peasant - the iconic, screwed over, worst off person of pop culture - had more days and time off than you, somethingās gone wrong. And apparently something has been wrong for a while now...

Parineeti Chopra responds to a male reporter who claims to know nothing about periods (menstrual cycle). [X]
SO IMPORTANT.
I started my period when I was 10 years old. But we didnāt tell my grandma for three years because she subscribed to the āold traditionsā, where a woman on her period could not enter the house, not even to bathe. Where she had to sit outside in front of the house (where the whole village could be witness to her shame and isolation) for the entire duration.
My friend started her period unexpectedly while we were at our local temple (in America) for dance class. Asking around if any of the parents had pads (all of them apologized and acted like adults about it), I thought surely the front office has a first aid kit. Donāt they have pads? When we asked, not only did they not have any, when one of the women gave one from her purse, the head secretary told us āThere are men who need to use the first-aid kit, ya? So we donāt keep period things there.ā Not even ibuprofen (which has so many more uses than period pain).
There are girls in India and Nepal (and other places, but I just read an in-depth piece about the situations in Nepal) who have to go to the āperiod hutā when their period comes and not leave until its over. They canāt wash and dry their cloth pads in the daylight, so they do it at night when the pads wonāt dry properly before their next use, making them vulnerable to infection.
It is incredibly important, especially in India, to break the taboo surrounding periods. Break the secrecy around an event that happens to almost every woman, every month for literally half of her lifetime. Break the hiding, break the cover-up, break the SHAME.
Just break EVERYTHING. So little girls can go to school every day of every month without feeling ashamed. So women can work every day of every month to provide for their families without being glared at. So single fathers can confidently take care of their daughtersā health. So that women can talk about how terrible their period is or isnāt and give each other advice on how to deal with it without looking around to make sure men arenāt listening. So that Whisper doesnāt have to be called Whisper, it can be called SHOUT. It can be called PROUD. So that we donāt NEED to fucking WHISPER about our bodies and our health.
Yāall gotta watch this show

v for vendetta is a film with a female protagonist that criticises capitalism, condemns pedophilia, encourages the viewers to question their governments, has a central plot about how LGBT people are condemned in right wing societies (more than three LGBT characters are in it) and was directed by a trans woman and her brother.
why has this become a fuckboy classic
because they mistake V for the protagonist and Evey as simply the viewpoint character, wilfully ignore the part of the plot about LGBT discrimination, and concentrate on how cool V is with his mask and his government-rebelling plots.Ā
What I find interesting is that - V is actually, imo, coded as trans, especially in the original graphic novel. Alan Moore claims that clues to identity of VĀ āare all thereā, which implies it might be a named character. If it was one, the only person matching would be Valerie, the woman whose journals V gives to Evey. Everything would match - Valerie was an actress, which would fit with both costume and tastes of V, and also why said letter was so important - and really, how the hell an occupant of a high-security concentration camp under constant observation had ability to write a letter, and also how a letter written on toiler paper would survive all these years, and burning down of Larkhill camp. (answer - by being written AFTER all these events).
Except, V appears to be male. Everyone is using male pronouns for him, in the movie he speaks in a masculine voice, and in the novel we do see a panel of his silhouette naked in Larkhill, and he definitely has a masculine physique.
But, if Valerie becoming V was metaphor for transition, thatād make sense.
Thatās in addition to well, the fact that a lot of trans men begin their self-discovery as butch lesbians? Itād sure fit.
Why do I believe that theory? In addition to whole LGBT themes thing, and the letter thing, thereās one more reason. Well, I think this was skimmed by in the movie, but in the novel, we get a pretty solid clue. See, in the movie, exact nature of experiments performed on Larkhill inmates is kept rather dubious if I recall - we know they gave V abilities slightly above normal humans, but thatās it.
But in the novel, itās more specific. So, what is the field of experiments that are being performed Larkhill concentration camp that they needed human specimen?
Hormone research.
V got strength to throw off chains of opression and fight back and yadda yadda, became a character who ticks off literally every single checkbox on definition of a superhero, including superpowersā¦
By literal fucking hormone therapy.
Administered to him, ironically, by the very oppressors.
From what Iāve read of Alan Mooreās stories, he doesnāt leave details up to a chance. Everything has a reason, and everything is interconnected with each other. And this, this doesnāt look like a bit of dark irony Alan Moore would pass up, since he loves that shit.
So, those are my reasons for this particular interpretation.
this is a really incredible
also I just wanted to add that both the directors are transgender woman, the Wachawowskis, and they also directed Matrix
Holy shot I did not pick up on this
I really donāt understand how anyone could not know V was Valerie. To me itās as obvious as day. Itās actually somehow MORE obvious in the movie.
It became a fuckboy classic in the same way that Watchmen turned from a direct critique of Objectivism and a statement on How Superheroes Should Absolutely Not Behave, into a badly-understood blueprint for how a bunch of writers and fans decided All Superheroes Should Absolutely Be At All Times Because Itās Gritty And Dark And Realistic (including Zack āI never really liked comics except for Watchmen and also I want Warner Brothers to let me make a movie version of The Fountainheadā Snyder).

On the Internet, there are spaces that are moderated and meant to be safe for kids, and spaces that arenāt. Nintendo has very strict content rules and adults that play games like Splatoon are expected to follow those rules. When I was 10, my Mom found a lovely Animal Crossing fan forum that was run by a dedicated team of moderators who kept all content safe for kids. These kinds of spaces are deliberately carved out to create fannish spaces that are safe for child fans where adults are welcome to participate but must follow the content rules.
Tumblr and Ao3 are not spaces like this. Adults are allowed to post what they want so long as appropriate content warnings are attached. While Tumblr desktop is open for teenagers under 18 (the mobile app is still 17+) itās a good opportunity for them to learn how to police their own consumption of content, respect the boundaries that adults set for that content, avoid things that bother them, and start to see people in different age groups as peers rather than authority figures. Donāt like it? Go back to a forum where there are adults who are willing to filter content for you. Think their content rules are too strict? Well, learning to moderate your own fannish experience is part of growing up and handling the maturity required for having your own freedom.
Looking back at this post, Iām realizing that āgo to a website where the content is heavily moderated for minorsā is SO MUCH BETTER to tell minors than āask your parents to moderate your content for you.ā These places exist! Go and find them! If youāre over 13 then youāre not legally required to ask your parents for permission! Tell your friends about them so they can join you there! But if the content restrictions are too tight then it might be time to evaluate how you handle content warnings on other sites.
