I don’t really have any either.” Despite knowing, even in this small Time, how defensive Mally got over this sort of request, or anything, Thackery still felt a pang of hurt like the boy was rejecting his offer of friendship. It was probably because of the laugh. He tried to not think of it like that.

Thackery thought to tell him that he didn’t need to apologise, but it seemed trivial, too much of an awkward conversation, and that was exactly the kind of thing Thack was trying to avoid. Mally’s answer only had him more confused as to why he ended up at that party, but he didn’t want to ask, in case he was pushing his luck. He was hoping to make a friend in this boy, at least. Thack had friends, kind of, in a way that he hung out with them at school. He didn’t like those ‘friends’ very much. They were all entirely fake, and rude just because they thought they were better than everyone else. “I can be your friend. I mean, if you want.”
