Hard Decision
I’ve come to a decision about feeding Theodore. I’ve decided it’s going to be best for me if I don’t carry on breast feeding. The emotional toll it is taking on me is proving to be too much and I don’t feel it is worth putting myself through so much psychological and physical pain. My baby deserves to have a happy and content mummy and I’m not close to being that right now. I’d rather be relaxed and enjoy my time with my newborn and him be on formula, than him have my milk but me be in excruciating pain, crying, feeling low, being stressed and dreading each feed. I’ve had depression in the past which means I’m more at risk for PND and lately I’ve been feeling like I could be slipping into depression and I don’t want that. I wanted to breast feed for at least a year and I’ve always wanted too and I am sad that I couldn’t continue for longer but I think I need to be sensible and do what’s best for both me and my baby. I’m sure he can sense my dread and anxiety and I’m having no sense of closeness and bonding when I’m feeding him because I’m screaming and crying in agony. I know a LOT of women go through this exact same thing and they push through somehow and it’s all fine in the end but I don’t know how I could possibly keep going like this for another 4-8 weeks.
So I’m going to pump every three hours during the day and give him my expressed milk for as long as I can and during the nights feed with formula. By not feeding at night I’m guessing my supply will start to drop and dry up. But if I can express for as long as I can maybe I could maybe get another week of him having my milk during the day. I just want what’s best for my baby and I’m tearing up just thinking about him not getting my milk but I just can’t go on like this anymore. I’m sure he will be just as happy with formula and at least he will have a relaxed and happy mummy.
Have you seen a lactation consultant?! They may be able to help with his latch so your nipples won’t be in as much pain? (also rub some of your milk onto them and let air dry!) they could also help with the mental part of it all, and hear your thoughts about it. Yes, everyone says the first few weeks are hard.. Because they are! But, it is also true that it does get easier! Each day, even if it doesn’t feel like it, will get a little bit easier and easier.
Best of luck with whatever you decide to do though! You’re still a good mom with either choice! :) I just would suggest seeing someone who specializes in breastfeeding, if you haven’t already, before giving up entirely.
Yes I’ve been backwards and forwards to the hospital for support and I’ve also had a breast feeding support woman come to my home. But once they are gone I can’t seem to get him on right and then I get stressed and my nipples get damaged. I was rubbing in milk and air drying, also using lanolin and gauze. I feel like a failure for stopping and I’m feeling guilt but then I don’t think I could’ve carried on the way I was. I feel pathetic though.
You gave it your best shot there is no need to feel guilty! My mom fought with me everyday to get me to breastfeed but it turned out I was happier with a bottle. After she let me switch to formula it was a much better time for all of us! You have to do what’s right for you and for baby and it sounds like that’s formula. I turned out, just as happy, just as smart and just as healthy as any other baby with just as good a bond with my mom. A fed baby is best and it shows that you’re a good mom just from how worried you are over the decision.
If it's because of the pain, I highly recommend a nipple shield. It was a life saver for me. I was at exactly the same point you are and I started using one and it was a miracle worker! My baby sucked off of it fine and I was comfortable breast feeding. But if mentally and emotionally you can't do it anymore, do what you can as long as you can! You're doing your best and that's what counts!
Sometimes you’ve just gotta plunk down on the couch at the end of the day and thank god you made it to bed time.

The Hard Truth
Being a stay at home parent is not all arts & crafts and naptime. There’s a dark side that we don’t talk about. We don’t talk about it because we are supposed to feel blessed and lucky to have the privilege to stay home with our children every day, and most days we do.
Some days, however, are hard. You lose your sense of self; suddenly every minute of every day is about this little person who doesn’t even know what they want most of the time. You spend 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with the same person; can you pick one person you would want to spend every waking minute with? Never getting a break for yourself? It’s exhausting.
Then there is the ravaging guilt we feel when the thought of getting a job to get away is a happy thought. I mean what decent parent wants away from their precious child? And you don’t dare tell anyone these feelings, because they won’t get it. They will tell you how lucky you are and how you should appreciate the time you get to spend with your children.
I’m not trying to make you afraid to be a stay at home parent or feel sorry for stay at home parents, I just want you to think before you tell one that “they are so lucky to have the privilege to stay home.” To stop implying they don’t know how blessed they are to spend so much time with their children. Because most days they’ll agree with you, but some days, though they would never say it, they would gladly trade your place.

I feel like I'm drowning
This post is as much for myself as anyone else who might read it. Just need to get some things off my chest. Where to start? My gram has cancer and is literally at the point where she is dying with it, although thankfully at home and surrounded by all of us. So despite the emotional side of that, we spend a lot of time at her house visiting and soaking up every second we can with her. I'm back to work, just part time thankfully although so far it's been everyday this week. They aren't always full days but till I get up and feed the baby, burp her, change her diaper, feed her on the other side, burp again, and then get myself ready plus pack the diaper bag and get my pump ready and snack for myself at work, plus leave in time to get her over to my moms and to work on time it becomes a full day. And then once I get off, I go pick her up and maybe feed her at my moms before we leave, I don't get home until it's time to start supper. Try to figure out something to make, then clean up from supper. Feed her again, play a little and then bath and bed time. So having all that plus trying to spend time with my gram, I fall behind on everything else. My house looks a mess. I need to do the baby's laundry, and actually my own. The whole house needs picked up. I have a pile of clothes in my room that I need to put away. I think I need a shower ;) I'm constantly mentally making sure all the bills are paid. I just feel like I'm behind on everything and working everyday this week has really thrown off my groove. I do have a long weekend but everyday already has something planned. Plus throw in Christmas parties, there goes more evenings to get things done. Thankfully I have all of my shopping and wrapping done so that is one thing I don't have to worry about. Anyways, I have a headache, I'm tired. Time for sleep, and then wake up in time to take a shower before the craziness of tomorrow begins.
Adi Grace slept from 10-815! She's been sleeping all night a awhile now but I think this has been her longest stretch!

It probably looks like I'm moving out everytime I leave for work in the morning. I have the diaper bag, my work bag/purse, the pump and then this morning I had a bag of stuff to exchange at Walmart and a gift that I had to give to my boss. Take that all out to the car in one trip and go back in and grab my babes. Definitely ready for the day when I can stay at home with my baby!

Mother's Milk Tea
So I don’t know if 100% the tea, it’s probably a combination of things, but I’ve been able to feed Scotty on demand and pump 12 ounces so far today and it’s only 2 in the afternoon. So I’d call that success.
What is your secret! Lol I try to keep up my water intake and pump for 10 minutes after she eats and it still takes me atleast two pumpings while I’m at work to make enough for her one bottle 😩
I was pumping right after feedings and not getting much but someone told me to pump an hour after feedings and that’s helped a lot. It gives your body time to build some back up and then it’s basically just like adding another feeding.
^^ yes that’s what I do. The only time I pump directly after a feeding is the morning because I’m so full after him sleeping for his long stretch! And I drink lots of water and make sure to keep my calorie intake up!
