godddddd the picture of the hightowers really does come together with the inclusion of daeron targaryen and ormund hightower.

they're pious and upstanding, to a fault. law and order come before mercy. they deliver "justice" with a cold blade. "paragons of virtue", but they hide their flaws behind their faith, as so many self-righteous people do. and behind closed doors, they indulge in temper tantrums. they manipulate one another. they enforce a brutal hierarchy. they have expectations and they'd better be met or else. otto did it with alicent, alicent did it with aegon.

and then there is daeron, a boy raised as a hightower but forever cursed with the targaryen name that ruins the illusion. a boy that, if he wished, could command them all with the authority of a prince, being forced into humbling, subservient acts. forced to kill.

the religious trauma in me vibrates at the same frequency as the hightowers.
