Pairing: Egon Spengler x F!Reader

Summary: While looking for a new research assistant Egon finds you, a parapsychologist whose always wanted to be a Ghostbuster. Little did you both know that there would be a lot more than research and ghostbusting that would bring the two of you together.

“Venkman. Venkman, you’re getting distracted again. Would you please come into the lab?” Egon calls from the threshold of his workspace. Peter turns, jogging over to the lab and finding a rather uncomfortable bench to take up residence on as the two men talked. The first closed the doors, making his way to the work table.

Ray:

Tons of stims like nibbling the end of his pencil, chewing his thumb nail, and smoking (but tries really hard to limit his intake because he really doesn’t want to destroy his lungs!)

Infodumps constantly

While his hearing is average, his ears themselves are super sensitive

Has trouble regulating emotions

Really loves textured things for tactile stimming, like bubble wrap, crinkly newspaper, soft fabric, animal fur…

Has an issue with spatial awareness and comes off as very clumsy

Responds very positively to pressure therapy, to the point that sometimes he gets on the floor, lays on his stomach and asks Egon to stack heavy books on his back

Can’t handle incredibly spicy or flavorful food because of sensory issues

Really enjoys hugs and high fives

Awesome memorization skills

Flaps his hands when he gets super excited

Egon:

Has a sensory issue in which he doesn’t like his neck to be too exposed, so most of his shirts have collars (& he pops the collar on his flight suit)

On a related note, he wears sweater vests because he likes the extra bit of compression around his middle

Common stims include humming, tapping his fingers, fiddling with his glasses, and rapidly but gently tapping his forehead with a the base of his thumb while his fist is closed

Has a lot of trouble with facial expressions, but he’s working on it

Incredibly direct and doesn’t quite get why other people think he’s being rude

Sometimes uses his calculator as a stim because he likes to press the buttons

Seems unflappable on the surface, but he actually gets drained and overstimulated easier than Ray does

When he gets overstimulated, he has a tendency to lash out suddenly

Doesn’t like touch unless it’s his idea or he’s super comfortable with the person in question.

Sometimes he makes odd faces as a stim

Both:

They quickly learn to enjoy the comfy weight and oddly soothing hum of the proton packs

Echolaila, always. Sometimes Ray will rattle off a long explanation riddled with technical terms and without even realizing, Spengs will repeat some or vice-versa.

Same foods. Popular ones include Chinese takeout, boxed mac ‘n’ cheese, Hostess snack cakes, Cheez-Its, Spaghetti-Os, and PB&J sandwiches.

Sometimes they both go nonverbal at the same time, which poses less of a problem when it’s just the two of them working in the lab
