How would you describe Kevin’s behavior in Your Ed Here? How did you feel about Kevin after this episode?
‘Your Ed Here’ made me hate Kevin’s guts. It’s just so KEVIN to break a deal with Eddy for no reason besides a callous mind game– the scam at the beginning didn’t even catch Kevin’s attention, let alone inconvenience him! It’s infuriating how he just bikes away laughing after it’s over, like that’s all the episode needs from him… and then Kevin comes back before the end to bully Edd for no reason as well.
But obviously it hasn’t stopped me from being invested in Kevin as a character, and it helps a lot that his final few appearances in the series knock him down several pegs. Trying to act close with Eddy in BPS was practically his only way to save some face after his embarrassing trip with Nazz. This episode and ‘Smile For The Ed’ are very important to me because they show how Kevin doesn’t always wait for provocation to bully the Eds, and he needs that immoral streak to justify his incompatibility with the Eds, and to offset episodes like ‘See No Ed’ or ‘This Won’t Hurt an Ed’ that could be interpreted as the Eds being villains in a world where Kevin just wants to mind his own business.
For crying out loud, Kevin barely even looked like he was entertained by Eddy’s humiliation when it was actually happening! Ruining Rolf’s jokes. What an ass.
That moment where Eddy is rightfully pissed and calling Kevin a jerk, looking him straight in the eye and pointing and yelling, is so cathartic and REAL! Until this episode, it always just felt like Eddy was the jerk and shouldn’t be annoying a kid with obvious anger issues, so it’s good for the show to admit Kevin and Eddy are BOTH jerks. Even if it doesn’t lead to a satisfying conclusion to the episode, it makes the show’s morality feel more complex to me and pays off long-term when Kevin’s luck finally turns sour at the end of the show. If nothing else, the episode is a very accurate portrayal of hanging out in packs of children.
