I'm Dumi the Dumbo Rat! You may call me Dumi, or Cali! I'm slowly working on improving my rusty drawing/felting skills whilst also coping with the lack of rats in my life. My blog reflects that a lot haha (keep an eye out for the "rat a day" tag in here, I reblog a lot of funny rodents).

I like doing art trades, too! I'm not quite confident enough in my skills to start doing commissions just yet, but I won't object to trading artwork! I will also accept drawing prompts in my ask box for now, I need the practice.

I don’t think enough people talk about how messed up it is that Ratchet stole Pharma’s hands. Setting aside the fact that Pharma’s hands are what made him stand out from other jets in the first place (I’m assuming that’s why he’s famously forged) and whatever friendship they had, him stealing Pharma’s hands was inherently selfish and unnecessary.

The reason Ratchet chose not to replace his hands before the Delphi arc was because he thinks cold constructed medics are inferior to forged medics. As far as I’m aware, we haven’t seen any evidence to that point. It’s just a functionist belief that he has.

So he didn’t NEED Pharma’s hands. Rrrrgh I love Ratchet, especially because he’s flawed, but it makes me a little annoyed when I see ppl defending ALL of his actions

YES OMG. PHARMA IS NOT A FUNCTIONIST.

He’s a jet with the hands of a medic, his very existence is an argument against the functionist belief that flight frames are only meant for fighting or transport. And not even ONCE do we hear Pharma say anything remotely functionist. To me it’s just a lot of “this is a bad guy so therefore he has to have the bad guy belief”. Actually, remind me who had his hands replaced immediately with no fuss? Pharma! He even expresses gratitude for the abilities his new hands have that his original forged medic hands didn’t.

I’ll shout this for the people in the back:

JUST BECAUSE PHARMA IS BAD THAT DIDNT GIVE RATCHET THE RIGHT TO VIOLATE HIS AUTONOMY, AND JUST BECAUSE RATCHET MAKES BAD DECISIONS IT DOESNT AUTOMATICALLY MAKE HIM A VILLAIN.

I don’t get the cognitive dissonance a lot of ppl seem to have when a protagonist has a flawed attribute that clashes with their perfect view of the character. Flaws are what makes a character interesting! Imo Ratchet being functionist is just as intriguing as him being atheist, and it should be addressed more. Actually him being a FUNCTIONIST ATHEIST is interesting in and of itself, as functionism is usually rooted in Cybertronian religion.

I don’t know, all we saw was that he was there to help in the aftermath of Overlord’s attack on the New Institute, that doesn’t automatically mean he was actively working there.

I don’t think he was altruistic per se, but I don’t think he was necessarily a bad person before the Delphi incident. The only two notable flashback moments we’ve seen him in, he’s saving someone’s life. In issue 14 he’s even comforting Chromedome
