Maâat and Mind
Iâve always had a hard time with reconciling logic/facts and spiritual/religious concepts. This year I came across the concept of Maâat, which comes from ancient Kemet and thus, from Kemeticism as well. Its a term thatâs difficult to describe, but from what I understand it essentially means âwhat is rightâ or âtruthâ.Â
So if Maâat is âwhat is rightâ and âtruthâ then itâs reasonable to say that pursuing scientific knowledge of the modern age is more than acceptable. If something you discover proves you to be wrong, then embrace it. Donât be afraid of change. Denying science is something that very well could be the end of us all, so now itâs more crucial than ever to be open minded and unafraid to challenge our own beliefs.
Those are some really good points, and I completely agree that science is crucial. Except that Maâat is more like âorderâ than âtruthâ. And Maâat has an opposite which is called Isfet meaning chaos.
Maâat comes across in many ways, but isnât necessarily fixed, and thatâs where Isfet comes into it. There were two types of Isfet, necessary and unnecessary Isfet. Necessary Isfet is the things that needs to happen to ensure that Maâat is âwhat is rightâ. If that makes sense(?)
Maâat is everything from universal laws to the laws that govern society.
An example, (taken from Osiris/Sethian myth),
Maâat would have said, it is wrong to overthrow your Pharaoh/king.
Necessary Isfet, if the king is bad, cut him up and throw him in the river.
Unnecessary Isfet, destroy the universe.
So Maâat changed and developed to be more âwhat is rightâ and order is restored.
So I agree, if Maâat is done correctly then it should be fluid and changing. It should constantly be challenged by necessary Isfet to make it better and stronger. We should all be striving to be better, more open minded and develop.
Thank you for replying and with such good information. I have a lot to learn, so I appreciate you for helping in that endeavor with your honest critique.
Rereading what I wrote, I come across as a little rude and I can only apologise. My fault for making a response before Iâd had my coffee >.<
I was really excited by your post and wanted to add onto it, I think you got to the heart of the matter (Maâatter?) and I thought your conclusion was solid :D
