"So much for honoring the code," Melvin added bitterly. "What ever happened to, 'don't tell anyone about our living situation, or else we'll be split up?' Hypocrite."
Maybe he was buzzed. Maybe he was frustrated. Maybe he was just a sixteen-year-old that wanted to experience being a normal sixteen-year-old in 1986 but was forced to succumb to the role that was always waiting for him at home.
"You're not in love, so you don't understand," Henry shot back. "Lindsay is trustworthy."
"If she's so trustworthy, then why, for the second time , is she brought here after being so messed up from a party?"
"It was just a party," Lindsay managed to grumble out.Â
The sentiment was nice, but really, she shouldn’t have spoken up. It was the worst time to do so, and the looks on Sheila and Melvin’s faces said so.
"A party where my brother was in danger . My brother could've been killed! And since you know every fucking thing that he's told you, where would that leave us?!"
"I wouldn't have gotten killed!" Henry snapped irritably. "And I wasn't in danger! I'm fine. I'm here now, aren't I?"
"We could've lost you!" Melvin cried out.
