So anyone of African decent can practice voodoo but African-AMERICANS can practice hoodoo? I think I get the grasp of it I’m it African-American decent but I do have African ancestors and would like to know how to use voodoo to contact and connect to my ancestors as guides
Yes anyone of African decent can practice voodoo but you need to be initiated and claim your blackside.
Hoodoo is open to everyone apart of the diaspora, however it’s mainly African Americans that practice because it started in America. But every diasporic territory has it’s own version of “hoodoo”.
Why do people still confuse working with their ancestors and vodou/vodun or even Palo? Many african Americans have many different ancestors some from other places besides Africa, some from rival African tribes.
Let’s keep it simple. If your african American ancestors come from Jamaica? Look at Jamaican practices. If you are cuban, look at Cuba. If you are haitian or Dominican, look at haitian vodou or 21 divisions. If you are Brazilian, look at Brazilian traditions. If you are trini, look at shango Baptist and other traditions in Trinidad & Tobago. Being Caribbean there was a lot of migration so there are haitian Cubans and indian Jamaicans for example.
If you are african American and that’s all your ancestors have indicated to you, then hoodoo is a great start or even your final destination.
Notice, Africa was not mentioned. There is Over 500 years of time away from Africa for some groups of people and they created their own groups of spirits inside their own traditions.
Just because you are black, does not mean you can practice african initiatory traditions or should go to Africa. Time wise you are just as african as your white American counterparts. In fact they might have more recent african ancestral mixture than you.
Know your story, know your ancestors, your ancestors do not care about your view on your nationality or your pan-africanism or your pro Africa fad, they care about your spiritual/material path which is based on truth not marketing, not cute packaging, not quick titles, not new names. Your ancestors may hate certain groups of Africans because they came from a rival tribe or they got sold by them. Again truth, not fiction.
