Tiananmen Square, 1989
30 years ago, in April 1989, people from across China gathered in Tiananmen square to mourn the death of Communist party leader Hu Yaobang. This led to peaceful protests across China (the majority of the protesters being students). They were protesting for “an end to official corruption and for political and economic reform”. On May 13 student protesters went on strike tin an attempt to talk to the communist party leaders. There was supposedly one million people who joined the protest in Beijing. The party leaders met the protesters on May 19 and the hunger strike ended. On May 20 martial law, in an attempt to restore order, was declared and thousands of protesters took to the streets across China in the following weeks.
The official China news agency said on May 1 that ” ‘The troops are by no means targeted at the students. Under no circumstances will [the troops] harm innocent people, let alone young students.” On the 3rd / 4th of June the government sent thousands of armed troops along with hundreds of military vehicles into the city center. This was done to clear the streets of protesters and hopefully restore order without violence. whilst approaching the crowds, and without warning, they opened fire. Some civilians killed by gunshot, other crushed below tanks and other military vehicles. Nobody knows how many died but estimates range between hundreds to several thousand.
After the protest, the Chinese hunted down people involved in the protests. Thousands of people were unfairly tried and then tortured, executed or put into prison. This is known as the Tiananmen crackdown. The crackdown along with the attacks are a taboo subject in China and has been censored. You can be punished for talking about it in public. However, China’s defense minister, Wei Fenghe was asked a question during a regional forum in Singapore about Tiananmen. He defended the crackdown, stating “That incident was a political turbulence and the central government took measures to stop the turbulence, which is a correct policy,”.
This is so tragic, they cleaned the blood up as if it never happened
Virginia Beach Shooting.
So, most of you have probably heard about this on the news.... if not here, there were 12 people shot dead (I knew one of them), 6 people injured, and the shooter is now dead as well all at our local VA beach courthouse. I live ten minutes away form the courthouse, i’ve been inside. Its insane to think that you could have stopped it or that your friend could have lived if he chose to not choose that specific day to go pay his bills. It’s hard to think that this happened ten minutes after school and that we would’ve been on lockdown if it had happened any sooner. Its hard to think that some employee acted out of anger and depression and shot 18 people. I am not angry about this. I am just deeply sad about all the people who now don’t have a brother, sister, mom, dad, husband, wife, etc. When it’s on the news you don’t really pay much attention to anything really, but when it happens and you’re right there..? It’s so much more heavy.
Drew this today. Hope you enjoy it! Captures what it’s like to just feel empty inside but full on the outside. 50 hours ago there was a shooting 10 minutes away from where I live and 12 people are dead because of it. Someone I knew gave up his life on Friday. So this drawing reflects on how heavy all of this is. But it also reflects that there is hope and joy in life still.

Belonging. Where do I belong?
Belonging is always a hard topic for tcks . I struggle with belonging so much. I am an Filipino, Irish, American that was born in China and has never lived in the States in her life. I have gone through saying goodbye more then probably a hundred times my age (1,300+ at least) even if I don’t go anywhere there is ALWAYS someone who leaves. I lived in China for almost 14 years and I have had to make and remake friends so much. the longest anyone I know that has lived in China and is still there is about 12 years everyone else lives there for about 2-3 years then continue their lives. I had my life in a city, environment, community culture that I absolutely adored, and one day God said it was time to pack up.... I didn’t even get to say a proper goodbye and that was crazy hard. By the time I got to come back most of the people I knew weren’t even there anymore. During the time that I left I got on a plane maybe....10 times? I almost died. I literally was so ansy because I wasn’t on a plane in what felt like forever. I always felt like I didn’t belong because of my identity and who I was. I was born in china but I’m Asian but not Chinese? and I’m from America, but I’m not??? I have struggled so much with this because I feel like I don’t belong anywhere. And I have come to the conclusion that I don’t belong anywhere on Earth, because I’m an alien....SIKE jkjkjk
I don’t belong anywhere because we all belong in the kingdom that is yet to come.
Belonging is not something you find its something you create.

You never realize how much you miss someone until you see them again. Then you miss them even more then the last time when you say goodbye again.

as a third culture kid the most terrifying words ever uttered are “where are you from”
This is always a struggle.
Every conversation I have had for the past week.
Everyone of my friends in china who saw Endgame when it came out two days before it did in America: Spoilers spoilers spoilers
Me: If you tell me anything about Endgame I will block you and delete you.
Them: .... silence.....

You laugh at me because I am different. I laugh at you because you are all the same.

There is something bothering me about this world, and that would be the evil...We as the new generation absolutely need to rise up against everything wrong with our society and show everyone we have a voice and we matter.

It’s so stinking annoying when you’re the only one putting effort into a relationship with someone. You’re always the one asking questions, making sure they stay entertained. But what about you? They never ask you questions, don’t know how you’re actually doing, and they just don’t put any effort into it
