One of my favorite pieces of dialog from True Blood.
Applies to spirit guides too. *looks at mine*
I was one of those people who used to get upset every time another mystic of one sort or another charged someone for their services. I used to think we, as mystics, were barred from doing so because the spirits would be offended.
Then I thought about being an artist and how a person who purchases a piece from me needs to pay not just for the finished work, but also the materials that go into making it. I applied that same understanding to magical work and now I’m all, “Yeah, you should probably pay that person for the work they’re doing for you if you want them to do it at all. Otherwise, go learn how to do it yourself.”
I completely agree with this! I used to be the same way when I was just starting out. And then I reasoned that you’re not just paying for the magical act itself, but the time and effort it takes the person who actually does it.
Stuff like spell casting and divination takes tons of time and effort. Like OP said, spell ingredients cost money. Tarot decks can sometimes be expensive. And it takes time, effort, and energy to perform any magical service.
So please, tip your readers/spell casters/etc. and respect their prices.
There’s also the great amount of time, energy and money that goes into learning the skill in the first place.
Also the idea that “the spirits would be offended” only really apply to those that believe in or use spirit work in their craft / divination services.
As a tarot reader who doesn’t work with spirits and relies solely on intuition I’ve never had to question the ethicality of charging for any of my divination services.
^^^^^^THIS
I usually see people against charging using the term “gifts” - “I don’t think it’s right to charge for my gift.” But to me… A lot of people are gifted at a lot of things. A surgeon may be gifted with steady hands and a clear mind. A professor might be gifted with eloquence of speech. Artists & musicians are often gifted in their art. But ALL of these people do also put time, energy, money into extending their gift into a skill.
I am gifted intuitively. I’ve put time, energy, money, into honing and extending that. I am comfortable with charging for my gift, because my gift is only the start of what I do.

I find it disheartening when diviners try to bring down one another because they handle their work differently. I am often asked why I do not publicly share the full divinatory methods of my culture or photos of client readings and am often asked mockingly if I am even a real divination practitioner. To this I say that not everything is meant or intended for public consumption or sharing. While I understand that there are other diviners who do not mind sharing their readings publicly for example public readings to practice, test readings to try out a new deck, example readings for their shops, even I have shared general readings for the public etc, which is perfectly fine in my opinion, I however am not one to share readings I have previously done for someone else on my blog unless a previous agreement has been made and all parties have consented to it. I hold each of my clients privacy to the upmost importance and part of that means keeping the reading between the client and I. The respective client is the one who can decide if they would like to share the reading, including video, photography or audio file if they so choose. I do not believe that any diviner should need social media posts to legitimize their practices, work ethic and validity in this work. We all choose to practice differently and that is okay. No one should be forced to put on a show so that others can see if their practices are good enough by someone else’s standards. Just as long as the diviner is not harming a client and is clear in providing exactly what they claim to offer, the discretion should remain between client and reader unless the client wants to share or the reader would like to use the situation as an example later on for something such as a teachable moment where privacy is still taken into account and fictitious names are given to withhold the confidentiality of the client. No one should feel like they need to perform or put on a show for the public to be seen as valid. Your practices are your practices. Your divination methods are uniquely you own. It is okay to not share everything.

Some of my favorite crystals :)
Tarots and oracles
PSA: Don’t put fucking bergamot on your skin or in your soap.
I’ve been seeing a lot of this shit lately.
Apparently bergamot is getting popular. I figure now’s a good time to address the issue.
Bergamot is a citrus fruit that smells amazing, so a lot of people like to make essential oils out of it and put it in candles and stuff.
However, this should NEVER go on your skin. It has the same effects as Giant Hogweed (& some other wild carrots like Queen Anne’s Lace) and will give you nasty rashes and chemically hyper-boosted sunburns by making skin highly reactive to sunlight.
Remember this?
I personally have had friends who were seriously hurt by putting bergamot essential oils on their skin. It sucks.
In case you don’t want to look it up yourself:
Don’t use or make bergamot soap. Don’t use or make bergamot lotion. Don’t use or make bergamot anything that goes on your skin.
Just don’t put bergamot on your skin.
Stay safe beautiful! <3 And please signal boost this!
The bergamot in Earl Grey tea is the best thing in the world. Bergamot on your skin isn’t.
