Every empire, however, tells itself and the world that it is unlike all other empires, that its mission is not to plunder and control but to educate and liberate.

My mom once told me that in Camden, NJ only 1% of Highschool Students tested college ready. She put an emphasis on tested. She said that she doubts that's the actual number and she said that these tests are only meant for very specific people to take them. She said that there are probably some extremely capable people in Camden but most don’t even take the test because they don’t believe in themselves enough to think that they will even make it.
My mom talking about how the SAT isn’t fair and why Affirmative Action is 100% necessary because we raise kids of color in our society to have no aspirations for college, and that when it comes to getting into college they don’t even think they are capable. Affirmative Action allows the minorites in our country to have a chance at getting the education they deserve, even though everyone around them says they shouldn’t. (via neutral)

#BlackEducationMatters: Protest for Affirmative Action
On Thursday, December 3rd, at 3 PM, Students for a Democratic Society will be holding a demonstration front of the Westcott administration building to demand that the affirmative action program be reinstated and for an end to racist admissions policies.
This is happening along with other SDS chapters and affiliates across the country that are holding events for Affirmative Action in response to an upcoming Supreme Court case. The Court has decided to take a second look at the Fisher v. University of Texas case, which deals with the legality of the affirmative action program used in the University of Texas system. However, the decision made in this case will decide the fate of affirmative action programs in colleges and universities across the United States.
In Florida, affirmative action policies have been banned since 1999 when politicians like John Thrasher and Jeb Bush worked to implement the “One Florida Initiative” which resulted in the drastic decrease in black enrollment at universities across the state. At FSU Black enrollment has dropped from 12.3% of the FSU undergraduate class in 1999 to 8.0% in 2015 according the FSU Office of Institutional Research. At Florida State University, SDS and other groups have been building a campaign to increase Black enrollment by putting an end to racist entrance policies and reinstating the affirmative action program.

I worked at a #PlannedParenthood clinic in Kansas for 3 years. My coworkers & I were subjected to the following acts of terrorism:

These are the 3 people killed at Planned Parenthood in Colorado Springs
Jennifer Markovsky, a 36-year-old mother of two, was there to support a friend. Garrett Swasey, 44, a member of the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs police force, was killed responding to alerts. Ke’Arre Stewart, a husband, father and Iraq War army vet, was shot attempting to get cell service. His actions after being shot may have saved lives.

Hey look! It’s a picture I took!
“How many times have we organized & marched in these streets, for those who met their untimely end at the hands of police officers…who purposefully aim their pistols, firing away with all their might endowed by this bourgeois society.
The same officers who lie under oath, destroyed evidence, threatened witnesses, and other deceptive acts to uphold a system that has killed countless people of color and continues to oppress my people.
No matter how much they beat us, or how many of our people they kill, we, our struggle won’t die, it will only strengthen. Our solidarity only grows stronger with each baton swung, every bullet fired, and every leave of absence given to those who commit murder.
The evidence of our ever-growing struggle can be seen in the streets here tonight, in the streets of Chicago, and with our comrades in Minneapolis. We demand the release of the tapes, we demand justice for Jamar Clark and we demand National Liberation.
The only thing that can end our National Oppression is BLACK POWER!”
- Jerry of Tampa Bay SDS, at a rally in solidarity with Jamar Clark & Minneapolis against White supremacy.
