One way or another, if you're American, you're probably gonna get gassed in your lifetime. Here's a few things to know!
The first time you get tear gassed, you'll feel like you're dying. Every part of your body with moisture - cuts, eyes, nostrils, mouth, lungs - will be affected. You will panic. You may run blindly.
Flush eyes with saline solution, water, or a mix of baby shampoo and water. Do not use milk - with pepper spray especially, you likely have eye abrasions, and milk could cause an infection.
When you flush eyes, tilt head and pour water so that it runs down the side of the face, not into the other eye.
Breathe slowly through your mouth, do not rub your eyes, watch the wind to see where you can find clean air. Running blind could get you picked up.
Leaf blowers are life savers
Pepper spray feels very different from tear gas. Its burn is from capsaicin. Tear gas burns when it reacts with your moisture. Again, don't rub your eyes!
Most masks you can buy at say, Home Depot, will not fully filter tear gas. Be ready for the burn so that you don't panic.
Gasses deployed can also cause fertility issues, irregular periods, and contain carcinogens. If these weapons were used on another country it would be a war crime. However, it's legal to gas your own citizens. Fun stuff!
If you can afford it, bring an OTC epinephrine inhaler just in case. This will quickly open airways in the event of breathing issues. Don't use on people with heart conditions - epi can harm that!
