“there’s too many of them!”
Trickster hears Nems say at the top of his lungs as they run from the swarm of doppels who are currently hot on their trails.
Trickster howls, “MAN! That’s a lot!!! HAHAHA–”
“you’re laughing??? you led them to us, and you’re laughing?!” Nems looks at him in contempt and disbelief.
Trickster sighs melodramatically, “Oh Nemmy, always blaming me for everything…”
“it’s because it is your fault!!!”
Oh. Right. Trickster thinks back to moments before their current predicament…
Trickster looked at Nems, who had just poked his shoulder asking for his attention. The sunlight hit both their faces as they walked on a path across the empty field. Their destination was the city they saw from the cliff. It should be the city Underfell currently resides in.
“hey, i think they’re sensitive to sound, so we need to keep quiet.” Nems said in a fully serious tone.
Ah yes, they had met just a few more of those Doppels after walking down the mountain. Nems must’ve realized it then. Although, he was pretty sure it was because Nems just kept yapping on and on about AUs and anomalies… What a nerd! Maybe he should lighten up.
It was then when Trickster pulled out a rubber chicken. From where? Who knows!
“It’s a rubber chicken, duh.” Trickster grinned slyly, squeezing it in his hand so that it’d continue squawking, while also dodging Nems’ attempts to snatch it away.
“no, stop that, why are you like this–”
Nems furiously took Trickster’s hand, his strength almost catching Trickster off guard. What the heck is with that grip?
They went back and forth on each other, Nems getting increasingly more irritated, made worse by Trickster’s loud laughter. That was, until they heard a loud rumbling noise coming from behind them.
…Buut now they have to deal with an incoming horde. And luckily for him, one of them has managed to reach him. Looks like it used to be a human adult, who had short messy hair. It is now nothing but a silhouette of its former self. It reaches out to him with one hand, the other holding a knife, ready to slash at him once it gets close enough to his face.
Trickster quickly jumps, avoiding the blade all together and throwing the doppel off balance. He then kicks it midair, a long confetti-cannon in hand shooting its head off in a colorful, explosive fashion. Its body falls onto the ground, motionless. It dissipates into the atmosphere, just like the ones before it.
Another doppel comes straight towards him. And another, aaand another. What a pain…
He quickly deals with them, confetti and various other loud sounds coming from his corner of the battlefield. And being the performer that he is, he has other tools in his arsenal, including a smoke bomb!
Colored smoke quickly spreads, blinding the poor doppels as Trickster shoots 3 of them consecutively with more confetti.
…and a rubber chicken to one of their heads. Just for good measure.
Ahh, easy peasy. He wonders how his Nemmy is doing, quickly stealing a glance at him. And as expected, he’s doing something stupid again…
“Idiot.” Trickster mutters out loud, watching Nems as he grabs that doppel’s wrist before it could summon its attacks. Is he trying to talk to it again? Has he been doing that the whole time with the doppels he’s been fighting the last few minutes? or hours? He can’t tell anymore.
His curiosity beckons him to listen closer to the conversation unfolding between them– or at least, an attempt at one.
Nems kicks the doppel away with his foot, strong enough to give him a bit of space from the doppel, whom he recognizes to be Underfell’s version of Dogaressa. He clears his throat, swallowing back his nervousness.
“where’s your husband, Mrs. Dogaressa?”
…It charges at him without so much as a response. The speed of which leaving Nems no choice but to stab it by summoning a bone from the ground, piercing its shoulder.
“...do you know anything?”
He hears a rumble from within her body.
And just before he can ask another question, he spots a few glitches appearing around her as Dogaressa stretches her hand out, forming a fist.
A scythe starts glitching into existence, and a giant one at that. And to make things worse, he spots more doppels coming for him from a distance. She called for backup it seems. He’s gonna get outnumbered.
…No, he can’t waste any time.
Nems looks away, finishing Dogaressa off by piercing her neck with another bone. He then flees from the incoming attacks launched by the doppels that came over.
Trickster watches Nems approach him, his saddened expression being the first thing Trickster notices, and then the few scratches on his person. Efforts gone to waste.
Putting both hands on his waist, Trickster sighs with a hearty smile on his face.
“I told you, didn’t I? These guys can’t be saved. You can’t talk to them.”
Nems remains silent. He finally shut up!
Trickster’s expression remains the same, his attention moving towards the remaining doppels. Which is to say, there’s a lot more where that came from. They have to press on.
They finish off a few more, Trickster running away from the swarm as soon as he gets the chance. He sees Nems teleporting closer to him to do the same.
It’s then when Trickster sees the city gates in the distance. The closer they get, the more they see that it's being guarded by 3 figures…
Seems they’ll be greeted with a warm welcome.
