“A coffee it is then. We have… normal one, I guess?” Lilou chuckles with a hint of embarrassment, observing the half-empty sack of coffee beans. There was nothing written on it. She rarely drank coffee herself. Only the workers here enjoyed the bitter liquid. Even if the drink would not do for the man, she would just put it to the side. Someone would probably snatch the cup later.

While the water is boiling, she leans her elbows onto the counter, round cheeks resting in her palms as her warm eyes look at his clothes, at any special trinkets he might have. There were a couple of hints that he might be a captain. Lilou watches his hair getting freed, the helmet firmly in his hands as some water droplets fall on the ground below. Her customer looks more at ease now. More than he already was.

“Is it too bold to ask if you are a captain? We rarely get visited by the men who call the shots. Mostly only lesser workers or sailors bring in the catch.”

“Heh... Better than nothing, I guess.” He didn’t exactly need or want his coffee fancy anyway. No milk or sugar was required, even if he did sometimes enjoy the latter. Honestly, anything warm to help Envar warm up a bit from the rain was more than welcomed. Just being indoors was already helping a bit.

Her smile does not falter while the butcher listens intently to the captain’s words. That man seems like one of the nicer captains here in Bilgewater. The city was sadly full of people who exploit their crews, leading to a huge gap between rich and poor in the sea monster business. Lilou always looked up to the Buhru folk’s principles. They might seem very isolated and not very open towards strangers, but they stay true to themselves and their beliefs.

The finished cup of coffee is placed in front of Envar on the counter, after the lady slides some papers away to make room for the hot drink. Sugar and milk shortly follows, standing there if there was a need for it. “I do not run this place. My stepfather does. He owns this killhouse since I could speak my first words. But you could say I run the shop if he is not around, like right now.” his friendly smile is matched with her own.

Enevar watched as the coffee was set out for him and smiled. He took it and had a small sip to sample, before nodding his approval. “Not bad.” It was certainly good enough to warm up after everything that he’d been through today. While he took the coffee, Envar allowed Lilou to take his catch.

As the sack falls onto the floor with an audible thud, all her attention is fixed to the carcass inside it. Lilou walks around the counter to get a better look at the fish or beast at hand, slowly opening the sack, which welcomes her with a distinctive smell.

“Ah, a pretty little thing you have here! We can carve that up in no time.” the butcher smiles brightly. The woman looks like she just received a flower bouquet, but instead of roses and petals, it was indeed a dead animal, and a big one at that.

“If you have time, you can wait here. I would feel terrible to send you out in the rain again. I can make some tea. Coffee?” as usual, Lilou is trying her best to keep her customer safe and welcome. She doesn’t seem to have problems lifting the cargo over to the backroom, where her stepfather would take it outside to slice it up later.

It was rather surprising to see someone so cheery and chipper working in a place like the Slaughter Docks. Envar almost wasn’t sure if this young lady was actually a worker, but he decided to judge based on the quality of her work. His prey today was a platewyrm, still relatively young, but large enough to feed four or five people.

The familiar noise of the old bell just above the door rings, devouring the silence which filled the killhouse a few seconds ago. Light brown eyes dart over to the stranger who enters and, with him, brings in such a good mood on top of it. Lilou stands up from her seat to greet him with respect. Politeness was always necessary, even if the job was as filthy as it can be.

"Welcome! Yes, we are open, dear sir." it wouldn't take long for the young lady to spot the huge sack the man was carrying with himself.

Lilou was getting worried a bit, frustrated by the lack of customers today. The killhouse would mostly welcome people who could bring in a hefty catch or two, eventually some people from town would visit if they needed something specific before the wares go to the market. Maybe it was the weather? The storm is already raging for a couple of days now. That must be it, right?

The butcher's daughter sinks into her seat behind the counter, reading her notes of already done work over and over again. Is nobody giving her more work today?
