"Ah. I appreciate the forewarning." Noelle replied, as she dug around in her bag for a potion, which she swiftly imbibes.
"Alright. This may be a strange sensation. It's always a bit disorienting, especially if you're unused to it."
Noelle holds the fish woman's hand and takes a deep, slow breath. When she exhales, there's a strange weightless sensation, before it feels like the floor gives out from under them, and the world seems to blur away. Not quite swimming. Not quite falling. But slowly drifting downward into an unfathomable depth, beyond the deepest ocean, or the emptiness of space.
Noelle reaches out and taps the other's chest. There's a very faint pull reaching somewhere. Guiding the duo. A pale gold trail leads off into the void, very softly tugging them along. A lifeline of sorts, but it also felt...comfortably familiar.
Like home was calling.
Soon, the sensation would become stronger, and reality feels like it comes into focus around them as they arrive in her home realm.
The strange sensation brought on the sick feeling in her gut and chest that was present during her first realm walking experience. the feeling wouldn't subside until both Noelle and Ange were floating in a pretty lavish apartment filled to the brim with water. Much larger than Noelle's cramped apartment with three bedrooms and a sizeable living room and kitchen setup.
The apartment was tinted with a soft coral green coating that prevented the saltwater from damaging the structure and items within. The arrangement was very sea- and nautical-themed.
The fish woman waved her hands in front of her face, a deep sigh escaping as she lightly kicked her feet to float in the water, swimming her way over to a control panel and inputting a code to lower the water levels.
Ange would shake her head as the water dipped below her neck and soon her waist. "Welcome to my home. I'm terribly sorry for the water; it's a feature that feels natural to aquatic folk."
"It's fine." Noelle says. "A potion of water breathing is enough. Thank you for the forewarning." Of course, her clothes were now soaked, but she didn't seem overly bothered.
She looks around at the spacious apartment. It seems Ange was used to a higher standard of living than she was.
"I hope my presence isn't intruding on your privacy, Miss Ange." Noelle comments.
Ange quickly shook her hands to wave off Noelle's concerns, "No need to worry, Ms. Mintte! I didn't use this place much, as I particularly lived at work most weeks." She took note of Noelle's exploring eyes and rubbed the back of her head as she felt as if she were being judged.
"As the youngest of twenty-six siblings and the only woman, my dads and moms made sure that I was spoiled for choices despite my protests. They made sure I lived in a gated community so that I was safe away from home."
"This is mostly a storage place for my things at this point."
"Ah. Much like my cottage in my home realm. I haven't lived there for years and generally treat it as storage and a safe ritual site for arrival when I visit to buy supplies."
"So, what sort of business brings you to your home realm today?" Her tone was friendly. She was asking out of curiosity, not business.

".... crystal?????" Ariel asks, somehow recognizing the woman outside of her angel form. " uh... you feeling alright there bud-? Nothing... diffrent-?"
The woman turns towards Ariel. It felt...almost unnerving for the other to be actually looking at them.
"This current form is somewhat cumbersome. But it will not inhibit my duties...until it requires certain human needs." They reply. "Am I causing you duress?"
"More like im just in awe of you-!" Ariel stated, getting closer to the woman. She cupped her face- and started to inspect the woman.
She moved their head to the side, as it looking at a piece of jewelry- before letting go. "... sorry. That must've been weird. Its just-" she stops again.
" ... how are you feeling about this-?"
The woman allowed Ariel to examine her, their cheeks squishing a little as their face is cupped.
"It feels soft and a bit awkward." They admit. "I felt things before, but they feel...more difficult to control."
Of course, their expression still didn't seem particularly bothered. It felt a bit strange to see such a blank expression on a person.
"But, I am curious. What about me puts you in awe? I should think being a human would be more mundane." They were certainly a bit more talkative.
Ariel pauses, thinking for a momment. "... it would be like if... I suddenly turned into a bird, right-? You see birds all the time, theyre mundane- but suddenly seeing somone you know turn into one... its a little jaring."
She paused again. " well, unless your chi of course. Im sure shes seen alot of people turn into other animals or what not- it's just... intresting!" She nodded, taking a step back.
" also, what do you mean by more diffuculte to control-?"
Crystal let out a very soft chuckle at Ariel's comment about Chiasa, showing a soft, small smile briefly before their composure returns swiftly.
"My emotions feel stronger. Harder to contain. Such as that outburst there."
"... outburst-?" Ariel asks, tilting her head. " ... so your supressing your feelings less. I.. should've guessed that you supress them more than you let on."
Ariel thinks on that, humming for a momment. " alrighty. We'll, scine we have the chance..." ariel grabbed the womans hand and began leading her away from the spot theyre standing at. " lets go!"
The woman's eyes open slightly wider as she's tugged away. "Where are we going?" They ask, some confusion in their voice."
"What about my duties?"
"You'll be able to do them later-!" Ariel chirped, leading the human outside. " right, ive been curious about somthing for a while, and I wanna see how youll like it-!
That is to say that somthing is... karaoke-! With food, and drinks-!"
"But I already liked those things." They protest; although the two times they accompanied others from the shrine, they barely reacted at all and didn't appear to consume anything.
They were perhaps not making the strongest case for themselves.
Regardless, they don't seem as rooted or sturdy as they normally are, being led away fairly effortlessly, still dressed as a shrine maiden.
She leads the woman to the otherside of the house, as she grabbed some clothes that she just washed.
" here, put these on. It'll be more comfy than those shrine clothes- pluse people wont bother you while wearing these. I AM dragging you out of here, but I dont want you getting harassed-"
It takes a bit longer than usual for Crystal to put the clothes on, as though they're less used to this form. While they didn't say anything, they did seem slightly more relaxed that they were in different clothes than their shrine outfit as they were being taken to town.
Even so, their pristine platinum hair and bright eyes still seemed unusual. But at least they looked like they were trying to blend in.
Ariel smiled, patting her on the shoulder. " allllright!" She exclaimed, as she took her hand and lead her to the rv.
She opened the side door near the front, and patted the seat next to the drivers side. " after you-! When I get in, I can help you with your seat belt-"
Crystal continued to allow themselves to be led to the rv. They step up into the passenger's seat and fasten their seatbelt as Ariel gets in, seemingly understanding the mechanics of it.
"I am prepared." They state blankly as they glance over at Ariel. Their eyes glance across the console of the vehicle as they straighten their posture; ready to depart.
It looked like it was recently cleaned- though a faint smell of Marijuana hangs in the air, as crystal could also see a small charm of a teddy bear sitting inside one of the cup holders.
Ariel gets in the drivers seat, and starts up the vehicle. The engine roared to life, as she pulled out of where the rv was parked, and headed out.
" alright- first thing to try out is... this-!" Ariel said, digging somthing from the side door and handing it to crystal.
It was a piece of gum, labeled in japanese. " try it-! Dont swallow though- just chew."
The woman glances down at the gum and took it into their hand, examining it for a moment before they moved it to their mouth, barely opening their mouth to put it in.
They began to chew slowly and deliberately, cautious to not swallow the foreign substance.
"It is sweet." They state, assuming she wanted their commentary on it, their fingers play with the wrapper a little as they drive.
" yeah-?" Ariel said, handing them another small piece of gum. " how's the texture-? Good? Bad?" She asked.
She kept her eyes on the road as she talked, but she would also make sure to take quick looks at crystal to make sure shes okay.
"The texture is firm and chalky until chewed. Then it is rendered soft and pliable. It is...umm...not unpleasant. The sweetness is magnified upon initial chewing." They state, navigating the opinions a bit unsteadily when they deviate from facts.
They glance at the offered gum and take it, examining it before pocketing it. They seem content with this piece for now.
Ariel laughs, as she made a turn. " well, im glad you seem to like it-! When it loses it flavor, or when your done expiring it- use that wrapper to put the gum into your mouth- ill throw it away later.
They stopped at a light, the cars racing by as they waited. " slight change of plans- I texted chi about what happened, n shes planning on making dinner for us. So no ruining out appitite-!
... there will be small snacks though. To see how youll like em-"
"I hope Master is not upset." Crystal replies. Her neutral expression changing to show some concern. "But I will restrain myself."
Somehow implying their current state wasn't restrained already.
They glance down at the wrapper and nod, receiving these new instructions. However, the odd lump in their mouth still had flavor. It seemed a shame to be rid of it so soon. They keep it pinched between their fingers as they turn their gaze back out to the scenery moving past them.
It was much faster than walking.
" why would she be-?" Ariel asks, tapping on the steering wheel. " im sure she'd be thrilled that she can cook for you. Hell- she might cook for you more now that your eating it-!" She laughs.
She continues to look at the traffic, waiting for the red light. "... yknow, scince you mentioned it.." she said, her eye looking at the angel. " do you... supress your emotions alot-? I know that you like to focus on your duties but..." she stops.
"... take it from me, its not good."
"Upset that I'm not attending to my duties during the day." They clarify. Still, they didn't push the issue. Ariel's reaction suggested it would somehow be okay.
"I try." They admit. "As you've seen, I'm a very emotional person; prone to outbursts and speaking out of turn."
Were...they describing the same person, even slightly?
"But...my duties are what I'm supposed to do. My purpose. If I'm not doing those then..." What good were they? They knew Master wouldn't discard them....but it was a difficult thing to shake.
" your more than the things that you offer, crystal." Ariel said, the light finally turning green. The rv moved forward.
" I know you feel like you always have to be doing somthing to help with the shrine. And thats wonderful that you want to help. But... hm." Ariel thinks for a momment, tapping the steering wheel.
" lemme ask you this: do you always see chiasa working everyday-? Or do you see her taking breaks- momments to rest-?
What about himiko-? Do you see her working all the time-? Or do you see her sometimes listing to her boybands-?"
"Head Shrine Maiden Himiko is a diligent worker. But...she does take breaks for mealtime. She also says she goes into town to do the karaoke or shop, but I have not seen this, myself." Crystal report.
"Master is always working. Even when they do not appear to be, they are in their shrine, bestowing blessings to visitors." Hm. They didn't seem to be lying. Perhaps that is how they see it.
"Want to help'..." They repeat, as if turning that thought over in their head. Perhaps they feel like they 'have to' help more than they want to. Or perhaps that's just their old ways keeping them in that state of mind.
Ariel noticed crystal anlyzing the thought,and smiles warmly. She makes another turn, her steadily slowing down as there was a stop sign.
" I know its hard to think about. The thought seems.. forgin. Taking care of yourself i mean. Thinking about yourself, other than how you have to help the people you feel indebted too.
But if you only see yourself as a tool, as somthing with a single purpose- then your gonna make yourself miserable. Your gonna think that eventually, your use is gonna run out, and your gonna be alone again. Hell-I know you already think that.
But... people want you around for you, crystal. not cause they thought your a useful tool or whatnot. I mean they want you around cause they like you, yknow?"
"They...like me?" The woman asks, seeming caught off guard by this statement, as though it was something they hadn't considered. They look back outside the vehicle, but they're not really looking at the scenery anymore.
It seems there was a lot to consider with that.
"I...am not sure if I am a tool. But...I do know there was comfort in knowing my purpose with certainty. The thing I was supposed to do."
"Humans...find their own purpose. That's what Himiko-senpai said. It's...frightening."
" change can be scary. God knows ive been scared of it one to many times." She said.
She looked at somthing hanging on one of the mirrors- a white, blue, and pink flag. She smiles at it.
"... but its good too. Sometimes you gotta change in order to find yourself. In order to finally smile at what you see in the mirror."
She slows down, parking. It seems that they were at the karaoke place. Before getting out though, ariel did somthing... strange.
Her hand went to ruffle the angels hair, smiling at them warmly- almost perfectly mirroring what her wife emulated when she welcomes people into the shrine. Acceptance. Love.
" but you dont gotta do it alone, okay? You got alot of people who loves seeing you change. I for one, cant wait to see how."
Crystal blinks in confusion when her hair in ruffled and she looks at Ariel. There's a strange sensation that they might be looking at her for the first time without the blank face or averting their eyes.
"They like me...but want to see me change?" This was confusing.
"Ah. Have we arrived?" They ask, noting the parked rv.
" we have." Ariel nodded, unbuckling her seat belt and then crystals. She got out of the vehicle, and opened the door for crystal.
" I know that sounds weird. But youll understand it eventually. Your smart-! And i know you have a good head on your shoulders." She smiled at the angel again.
" now lets go sing our hearts out-!"
"The karaoke ritual, yes." They reply, as the unbuckle themselves and get out. They had heard of it, but were uncertain about the details.
Still, Ariel seemed confident it would work out. It sounded like it involved singing, but also snacks?
Regardless, the woman followed Ariel into the building.
Ariel entered the building, as she walked to the receptionist desk. She waved at the receptionist. " hi! I made a reservation for a room-? Labeled under bernstien-?"
The receptionist nodded, as he stood up. " right this way, then." He said, leading them down the hall.
Ariel once again grabbed the angels hand and took them along with her.
The woman followed obediently. Somewhere between a shadow and a bodyguard...but lacking the intangible presence of the first and the intimidation of the second.
"You were swift to make a reservation. Is this a common activity for you?" They ask, their eyes glancing around at the interior decor of the facility.

"It's...well, me, actually." Noelle replied, still a bit weirdly chipper about this.
"I realized that I'm technically an angel while under this grey magic, so I figured we might be able to get some angel's blood from me. It's an exceedingly rare and expensive magical reagent."
Making the best of a weird situation?
"Oh, right - I actually forgot about that." She had other stuff in her head at the moment. Or maybe she's getting better at seeing past bodies. "Then that makes the whole matter a lot easier; I could have a proffessional draw your blood, in fact." She chimed happily, her tone easing up.
"Well, depending on how angel blood responds to glass and steel, I suppose."
"I think it should be fine. I have some small papers I'll need to apply to the vials after to ensure they retain their essence, but steel and glass should be perfectly acceptable. Silver or gold would be a problem, but that stuff should be fine." Noelle replies, clearly more than a little excited by this prospect.

She nods to herself. "That cuts the monetary costs down to nearly a third of what they would be."
Her eyes catch sight of her feathered wings and a thought crosses her mind. "I've changed species with Crystal...I'm an angel right now. That means...I could get access to Angel feathers, freely given...Angel gaze, and angel's blood..."
Not knowing how long this condition would affect her, she rushes to get the materials needed to extract her own blood.
Caitlyn walks in, humming along happily, and with Noelle's cloak in hand. "Songbird! Thank you so much for lending me these, I called in on some favors and had it properly enchanted" She gently put them around the girl and nodded. "Now, try opening your wings with your cloak on. If the magic is working properly, it should 'dissapear' as a faint purple silk on the top of your wings. And when you fold them back in, it should reappear"
Noelle's cloak was already enchanted with several effects. Adding another wouldn't be a big deal, but...
"How did you find someone able to enchant it?" She asks. Piltover didn't seem a likely place for an enchanter of such skill.
Still, she puts her cloak on. It seemed normal...at first. She then spread her wings. The hood remained, but the rest shifted, allowing her wings to spread without obstructions. The cloth remained only as a bit of covering along the top of them.
"Oh, interesting." She states, giving them an experimental flap. "They don't feel obstructed at all."
"Perks of having a quite skillful Fae as a fiance. The complexities of it escape me, but from my vague understanding, she had to essentially move around some other enchantments to fit this one and then reshape while keeping the memory of it's true form"
She gently caresses the wings and walks around Noelle, nodding at how the hood looks great on her.
"Or, as she'd put it, 'Ask really nicely for the other enchantments to make some space, then taught the cloak some new tricks' "
Ah yes. The mysterious paramour Leblanc. Noelle had heard Cait gush about her before. It makes sense she would enlist her assistance in such a feat.
"That makes a lot of sense." And a skilled sorceress would doubtlessly know how to manage the enchantments well. "Maybe she could teach me her methods." Noelle adds, as she looks at one of her wings. "I'm not too good at enchanting, myself."
That seemed like a lie. Noelle was probably capable, but the hesitation in her voice suggested another reason.
"Let her know that it's appreciated. Given how often grey mages seem to want me to have wings...it will be nice to keep my cloak around while transformed."

one time I saw a photo of a skinned whale/dolphin flipper on reddit or something and I've just never recovered
there's just. A paw in there.
One of the most spiritually profound moments of my life was when I was sixish and at a natural history museum with my parents that had a whale skeleton hanging from the ceiling.
I remember my dad picking me up to sit on his shoulders (possibly one of the last times he did that because I was getting too big to hold there for long) so I could be close to it's flipper because he wanted to show me something. He had me hold up my arm parallel to the whale's, and explained that we had the same bones, pointing to it's scapula and humerus and radius and ulna and so on while poking the same bones in my skinny little arm, all they way down to the tips of my fingers and it's own.
And in that moment, I could suddenly see how the whale and I were the same animal, just stretched and shrunk into different proportions by nature. There was an entire exhibit with skeletons of different animals and we went through all of them, picking out the hands and faces of all of them on myself.
I had never felt such a profound connection to the world around me before as I realized on a visceral level that not only was I related to all these creatures, they were very literally my distant cousins, and that in a way, they were me from back then and I was them from now, and we all were others still from the future.
Every living thing on earth is your cousin. The most distantly related humans are your 50th cousins. Chimps are your several thousandth cousins. An octopus is your 25 millionth cousin. Trees are your billionth cousins. You and I are surrounded by family. And that makes me feel profoundly loved.
So thanks dad, for pulling your shoulder a bit to show me that I am part of the universe. I love you too.

...and then she spun her girlfriend around and pulled her into a much deeper and more passionate kiss, full of tongue-wrestling as she picked her up and carried her away.
