if anyone wants to use this, they can! i made bigger versions but tumblr won't accept them, so just know that it's a very neatly repeating pattern and the way to size it up is to shrink it into one quadrant, duplicate, and then put the copies into the other quadrants

Jonathan Sims is easy to write if you've ever asked the teacher if there's a word maximum on an essay. Martin Blackwood is easy to write if you've ever lived your life as a people pleaser. Tim Stoker is easy to write if you've ever despised yourself and the world around you so much that the only thing you seek more fervently than divine reasoning for your own misery is taking all that torments your soul down with you in your own glorious, violent blaze of destruction. Bisexuality will also work in a pinch
inspired by @alexxuun's incredible tøp piece which is also what introduced me to the song. so thank you very much for that.

there's a ton about the way that magnus archives explores loneliness that echoes and validates a lot of my own experiences with isolation, depression, and mental illness in general. several of the Lonely-centric episodes were deeply cathartic and even personally revelatory for me, to the extent that i still get a little teary on listening to them. but as meaningful as, say, martin's character arc is to me, there is perhaps no moment i relate to more than peter lukas choosing to explode in a storm of psychic static rather than share one more detail about his personal life with an annoying stranger.
I'm not interesting in pretending Elias/Jonah didn't do terrible things. Of course he did. He was a frightening eldritch creature, a high priest of the Beholding, the patient composer of a symphony of terror and despair that nearly ended the world forever.
Spoilers under the cut bc I'm feeling bonkers and I need to ramble about him alsdkjfa
Despite all this, I feel like it does a disservice to his character to flatten him down to the solely villainous. To pretend the humanity in him was any less important or influential than the horrors he served. He was a passionate academic, endlessly terminally curious, funny, outgoing, and a deeply terrified man himself, so possessed of and by his fear of death that it drove him into the kinds of logical fallacy many intelligent, frightened people fall prey to. The idea that he could somehow know enough, plan enough, orchestrate the circumstances of the world enough to remove himself from clutches of entropy. Of uncertainty.
It destroys him in the end, of course. You can't do that, there is no way to engineer yourself out of your own mortality (yet I suppose), and it's evident all across the series. Not just in the way he seems to miss the dissonance of genuinely liking the Archives crew while also constantly sickening and picking them apart for his machinations, but really quite literally in the way he allows his human form to deteriorate and waste.
Jonah Magnus the brilliant, curious, frightened human man that started his journey sat in the Panopticon until the Eye opened, and was burned away to dust and ash without ceremony and with barely any mention at all. Elias was all that remained, neither the man who started the journey nor the one who had been born to the body being occupied. And it's very clear, when Jon pulls him down for that final confrontation, that the parts the Eye allowed him to keep were the exact things he'd tried to escape for so long: his fear, and his mortality.
Because while the Fears give you power, extend you and elevate you beyond the boundaries of your human form, they are fundamentally appetites, instinctual and driven by their own hunger first, foremost, and only. No matter how familiar, how comforting, how right it feels to root your conception of the world and your place in it inside of fear, it never saves you. It's not designed to. Especially not when that fear exists in a universe where the emotion is sentient and knows you need it.
The series does this really incredible job of laying out monsters and nightmares and then showing you the human beings inside of them, turning that darkness back towards you and making you consider yourself in them, the inherent humanity of horror, darkness and light in equal measure. It's very neat packaging. It's a lot easier to follow that with Jon, of course, but it happens all through it. Michael Crew and Michael Shelley, avatars of their respective fears, through no fault of their own. Julia Montauk's father, manipulated into what he was by Maxwell Rayner, Oliver Banks a manifestation of death itself because of a series of nightmares.
Then you have figures like Gertrude Robinson, arguably on the side of good but ruthless and cold and cunning, willing to destroy people that trusted and cared for her as easily as those she considered enemies. Jurgen Leitner himself, a specter whose name is synonymous with evil for the first 2 seasons, turning out to just be a misguided old man who lost control of his fucking library. Both entirely human, and both responsible for catastrophic harm in ways both large and small.
Elias, as we know him, and as he knows himself, is as much this as anyone else in the series, and I think--at least for me--that's what makes his final words so compelling. Not delivered with that velvety, knowing baritone we're used to, nor with the sort of vindictive anger he has turned to in moments of emotional turmoil in the past. Just a small, weak, frightened plea of "I don't want to die!" made to the one man who could do nothing but kill him, standing in the shadow of the voyeur that consumed them both.

I am a Palestinian youngman of 26 yrs , from the besieged Gaza, seeking to find safety and peace for my eight_member family 👪 that has been in very harsh and tough situations for almost a year. Since the outbreak of the war, we have been forcibly displaced to the south of Gaza, in the hope of finding a safer place, but the fact is that there is no safe place in Gaza. After we had lost all our possessions and belongings like our house and our livelihood_ source business were destroyed and damaged 💔 due to the annihilation of our neighborhood.
This photo was taken to the remains and ruins of our house. Nothing has been left for my family to live in nor a source to live on. Now we are living in small tents ⛺ in streets lacking all means of a house.
We re leading unbelievably difficult circumstances due to this injust war on Gaza. Also, We are painfully suffering from the bad living conditions because we lack all necessities and essentials of our daily life. Food, clean drink water, medicine 💊, health care , and other necessities have become scarce and unattainable and this adds to our sufferings and hardship.
a photo taken to show how harsh and tough our life is. hours of waiting in queue to get some gallons of water for the daily use. This is driving us crazy and insane .
What adds to our tragedy is that we wait long hours just to get a little water that can't meet our daily use.
It is also sad to have a sister suffering from chronic diseases such as bone atrophy , yet no health care exists.
so I am asking you my dear donors to help us get out of this painful tragedy and hardship. You can help my family by donating whatever you can or by sharing 🙏 my messages so that my goal can be reached sooner. Your help is essential for people in dire needs and awkward situations.
